message 152: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Pork is the word of the week
Barn is just the regular bonus
Triple word means the letter's points will be triple scored.
For example if your letter is R this week instead of only being 1 point it'll be 3 points.

If not let me know and I will keep looking. I'm leaving around 2:30 and won't have computer access.

Week 5: Pork
My Letter: O

Oscar Wilde And The Dead Man's Smile by Gyles Brandreth Oscar Wilde And The Dead Man's Smile by Gyles Brandreth
Finished: 21 August 2013
Rating: ★★★

Review:
I wasn't too impressed with the first book in this historical mystery series when I read it quite a while ago, but I decided to give the series another chance and ended up enjoying this book much more. Set before the other books in the series, this one has Oscar Wilde trying to find the truth behind a series of mysterious deaths in a Paris theatre in 1882. Compared to the first book, I found the characters more likable in this one and the mystery more interesting - might give the rest of the series a shot, too.

Bonus Items:
Pork: "pork cutlets" (p. 39)
Barn: "The studio itself must once have been a barn" (p. 176)

Riding the Storm (ACRO, #1) by Sydney Croft
Book: Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft
Rating: ★★★
Review:
I've been looking forward reading this book for a while now and I was happy I finally got the chance to read it. Sadly, the book didn't live up to most of my expectations but it was still good enough for me to add the next book from series to my TBR. It will probably have to wait for another challenge opportunity though.
There was so much sex in it that it started to get on my nerves. I like sex in books, I also like lots of sex in books but there's a limit to everything and this book passed my limit on sex.

WoW (pork): As they approached, the aroma of roasting pork and pun-gent spice replaced the smell of stagnant bayou, making her mouth water.
Bonus word (barn): He was forced to kneel on the soft dirt of the barn floor, his ankles bound together as well.
Total Points: 5

The Magnolia League (Magnolia League, #1) by Katie Crouch
The Magnolia League by Katie Crouch
Rating: ★★★

Review: This book was pretty good...but then it just ends... It ends because the other wanted to write a second book...and it's not a very good place for an ending. I was like, "Really?" The characters are ok... Some of them you don't really know where their motivations lie...but I think we'll see some people's true colors in the next book.

WOW: Pork "Josie's been getting crazy with my lunch lately - doughnuts, fried pork, hushpuppies" p. 226

Bonus: Barn "Everyone eats, and hangs out in the Main, a pretty carriage barn p. 14

Lindy (lindylee) | 375 comments i dont' know how to do bold and italics?

message 168: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments Lindy click the little link where it says (some html is ok) and it will tell you how to do it.

basically to bold you do < b > but without the spaces in between. If I didn't add the spaces here you wouldn't see it it would just make my words bold. to end the bold you put < / b > without the spaces

The same is true for italics you just use an i in place of the b

Letter: F
Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1) by Suzanne Wright
Book: Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
This book is a fine example of how much sex I like to be in the book. There was plenty of it and it was hot (specially that menage scene) but the book didn't consist of sex only. I liked most of the pack members and I'm looking forward to Dante's book.
My only problem with the book was that it was about 100 pages too long for me, I got bored and barely managed to stop myself from skimming the rest of the book (I was too curious to see who was the traitor and his identity was a surprise).

WoW (flag): Hoping like hell this worked and didn’t just act like a red flag to a bull, she gently threw the jacket so that it landed to the side of the carcass. (page 119)
Bonus word (mask): Taryn knew her face was a mask of surprise (page 52)

Glass Heart (Cold Kiss, #2) by Amy Garvey
Glass Heart by Amy Garvey
Rating: ★★★

Review: Wow, I really don't like Wren in this second book. She's kind of a brat and selfish and only cares about herself. I kind of wondered how they were going to make a sequel to Cold Frost with it ending the way it did...but they did...and well, I'm kind of disappointed. Not much character growth. In fact she kind of goes backwards as a person.

WOW (flag) p. 8 "But then, Gabriel's got his own freak freak flag to fly"
bonus word (mask) p. 233 "Even with Bay striding toward me, his face sculpted into a mask

REVIEW: this fantastic book from a president of ABC news, Harvard and Oxford educated (Rhodes Scholar_. is one of the top5 books I read this year. The Death
and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, follows a young man's journey between the worlds of life and death, and explores his bonds with loved ones in both. Zac Efron stared in the movie version which was released in 2010.

Finished: 30 August 2013

Review:
I've never yet encountered and Elizabeth George book I didn't like - this fifth book in the Inspector Lynley series is an engaging mystery with the murder of a deaf Cambridge student as its center and the myriad of facets and subplots that all tie together in the end that make these books so hard to put down.
