I own a Kobo e-reader and I actually prefer to convert pdf files to epub, because while you can read pdf files on my Kobo, the letters are very small then. I use Calibre for converting files. So actually the type of files you have shouldn't be able to limit which e-reader you buy.I have to say I love my Kobo e-reader. Okay now for the rest of your questions.
1) as long as you have a computer you can buy e-books on there and then you can connect your e-reader to the computer with a cable and use a program like Kobo or Adobe Digital editions to put your books on your e-reader. Or you can just copy and paste the files from your computer on your e-reader (you do have to make sure to copy them in the right folder).
2)nope, after the books are on your Kobo, you don't need an internet connection or anything to read it. You only need internet if you want to buy books on your e-reader, but I just buy e-books on my computer.
3) I have a Kobo touch and I love it, but they have an awesome new Kobo now the aura and the glow. You can find out more about their different e-readers on the Kobo site: http://www.kobo.com/ereaders I have to say i don't know that much about their e-readers beside the Kobo touch, because that's the one I own.
If you have more questions, please let me know. I remember how lost I felt when I was first contemplating buying an e-reader. But when you finally have one, it is so easy.

I was pretty sure using the cable to link the computer to Kobo would be ok but I just wanted to be sure before I bought it.Thanks also for the extra info you provided. I'm not a fan of tiny writing when I read so I think your advice about epub is very helpful.

I will do, thanks! I think the Kobo Touch is the one for me. It looks like it has everything I need. Now I just need to find somewhere that stocks one with a lilac cover!
I have to second Lolita's information to you. I have both the Kobo wifi (no touchscreen) and the Nook simple touch. I love both of the readers, but the Kobo is much easier to delete books from. You can do that right from the reader. With the Kobo, using the program Calibre or the Adobe Digital Editions. you can load epub formats from anywhere online and through your usb cable upload them to your reader. Calibre is nice because it converts PDF to epub easily and creates libraries of all your books by author. The only reason to need wifi is if you purchase books from Kobo or to sync your library with Kobo (only Kobo purchases).Good luck finding Kobo in the stores though (maybe Best Buy). Unfortunately Nook and Kindle has taken the market :(
Thanks very much for the info Theresea, I really appreciate it. A couple of places seem to have the black and silver versions so at worst I can get one of them. The lilac just looks nicer!

hi, i simply use my phone tablet as a reader. its 5" so comfortable to read. there are so many readers in the play store, my fave is GO Book and Kindle. and if you already download a book, you could read it offline for sure.
I'm afraid I can't afford to buy fancy phones and tablets. Too expensive when you aren't working!
I had an original KOBO which I loved. Then my husband bought me the Kobo Vox which I did enjoy but ended up having to take it back twice, at that point my husband pointed me to a 7" tablet instead. I ended up getting the Asus Nexus 7" tablet, which is a bit more pricey, however, there are other really nice tablets that are 7", like the Asus Memo Pad and the Lenovo 7" tablet as well as Acer. The feature I like about a regular tablet vs the Kobo, is that in a Tablet you can download any e-reader app. I downloaded, Kindle, Kobo and Sony, as well as an e-reading app that will allow me to read any format of book that I choose. Just gives you a few more options out there. The first person that answered your questions was right on...but I just thought I would share my thoughts on the kobo vs an ereader, Im sure you won't be disappointed with what you get...just stay away from the Vox hahahaha, the new ones might be better. Just a side note the second return of my Kobo Vox there was another woman in line also returning her Kobo Vox.
*Update* Thanks for your imput everyone! The Kobo has been great so far. We couldn't find a single shop with any of the coloured Kobo Touch ones so we opted for a blue Kobo Glo! Lovely!The only bummer is Kobo store won't accept debit cards so I can't BUY anything on it!!! I don't have and won't be getting a credit card. Still, I've found 240 freebies since August so I can't complain too much!
just so you know kobo except the visa/MasterCard gift cards you can buy in different denominations. just go to the store where you buy gift cards and you will see them. I have some customers that don't feel comfortable giving out their visa/mc online so I suggested the visa/mc gift cards for kobo and they work great :-) just an idea.
I always use paypal or Ideal. I think Ideal is for the Netherlands only, but everyone can make a paypal account.
Here are my dumb questions! I suspect I know the answers but I'd like to confirm it as some web sites are giving totally different answers.
1)I don't have a wifi connection set up in my house. Can I buy my ebooks from the internet and load them to Kobo without requiring wifi?
2)My computer is downstairs, Kobo will be read upstairs at night. After putting my books on Kobo ereader, do I need to have wifi access to read them upstairs?
3)Any imput on the best of the Kobo range?
