great that's wonderful. I'm reading so many books right now that I'd love to discuss and I'm like, damn it's not afam historical fic lol! So that is totally awesome! I have a super passion for historical fiction, period stories and African-American lit and so many groups don't read the stories that I like. So I still wanna keep that going. But man I wanna read and discuss other books too!

Do you have specific ones in mind? I'm actually searching for that book experience when you are so wrapped up in the story that you sacrifice sleep, ignore your family, and even forget to eat because the story is THAT good! hahahaha I'd be curious to see the recommendations that come through.

Right now for me that's 11/22/63. The book I neglected my entire family for lol would be A Day Late and a Dollar Short by Terry McMillan, and I'm not even much of a terry McMillan fan. Those are some good ones.

Yeah, Terry McMillan's books was what inspired me to be a writer. She gave me hope that I could write the type of stories I most wanted to and be accepted and even appreciated. So I always consider it a compliment when readers describe my work as "Terry McMillan-ish"! I guess I'm kind of picky when it comes to books (or so I've been told) because I love a good story without a bunch of errors. That's a big turn off for me.

Exactly! I can't stand typos and errors. I read a book with a contradiction to the story. Closed the book! It pissed me off! Not sure why I took it so personal lol. That's my biggest problem with street-lit. That's the only genre where it is acceptable to misspell words and use phrases like, "I ain't got no mo" and "Is we" and "Its" instead of "It's" and so on and so forth lol. I am a very picky reader. I'm not one of those people that can just read anything. But I try to be sure that in my selectiveness I'm not putting myself in a box which is easy to do in life, be it books, movies, music ect...
Toni Morrison is my inspiration to write. I love her style of writing. I may never get as good as her in my writing but I will die trying!

Yes, I know what you mean. I've been reading a lot more books that I normally may have overlooked. It's been fun, though. I didn't have a genre that I WOULDN'T read but there are some, now, that I don't particularly enjoy. I've had some pleasant surprises along the way and I look forward to more. However, what I want most is to fall head over heels in love with a book and be completely satisfied when I get to the last page.

I reached that with The Book of Night Women and The Color Purple. Those are the two books that had me thinking so hard when it was over that I had to get into anothe book so that I could forget that one! I think 11/22/63 is gonna be that next one for me. I'm also a fan of Eric Jerome Dickey. Have you read the Gideon Series by him? That was really good.

I read one of them. I think it was called Sleeping With Strangers or something like that. It wasn't really for me and I never tried anything else of his. I'm not really sure what's going on with me. Maybe I'm in some sort of book slump . . . I don't know.

is by Stephen King It's really good. Yes, Sleeping with strangers was his first part to the series. My cousin didn't like it either. That's my favorite book of series. Not that I've read a lot series or anything lol.

I'd like to read An Inconvenient Friend by Rhonda McKnight. I've never read anything of hers but I've heard good things. If I'm the only one wanting to read a second book, though, I understand if you need to close the poll.

I would definitely participate because I read so many different types of books. For instance I am reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks ( Mel Brooks son).

Yes, there will be a separate thread. I haven't organized it yet. But you can go to "september 2nd book nomination" thread to vote for a book.
