Title: "witch" is in there somewhere
Pub date: late 80s early 90s
Cover: A girl with long curling red-brown hair in profile view looking worried, facing an old hag (the witch from the title), also in profile view, in front of trees. The art style is typical of books from that time period, realistically painted. I think the border around the picture was light green?
Premise: A (teen?) girl goes to the country for summer vacation or something like that, and there's an old lady who lives up the hill. For whatever reason they end up spending time together, maybe the girl doesn't get along with her family. The big detail I remember is this: the old woman would always run her fingers through the girl's hair, and the girl would feel sharp pains, like hairs were being pulled out. They were, because at the end of the book the witch has a box tied up by strands of the girl's hair. And the girl has to defeat the witch. I think she's also friends with a boy.
Does this jog anyone's memory?

I wish I could help more than that, Alexis. If no one here ends up knowing the book, you could also post your question to the "What's The Name of That Book???" group:

The book I'm looking for came out in either the late 1980s or early 90s and was a contemporary story. It could probably considered a thriller. I think I read it around the time I read Wait Till Helen Comes, which terrified me.
Thanks for the suggestions. I might try that other group, Luann.

I read it back in grade school, most likely before 6th grade. (About 9 years ago) but I don't think it was new then. I read it around the same time I read everything by Willo Davis Roberts I could get my hands on.
It is about a young girl who doesn't have the greatest home life. I feel like there was some level of neglect. I know for a fact that it is NOT Don't Hurt Laurie.
The only thing I really remember about this book is a scene where the mother dresses the girl up in a tattered tutu and takes her panhandling. I remember that it was cute when the little girl was like two, but she is now more like 7 or so. I don't remember the exact age. The mom turns on music, and the little girl dances while people walk by and give them money. There is a scene where a little boy is walking with his mother, and hands them a 10 dollar bill. I think the little girl's mom was smoking.
I wish that I was able to remember more than that, but I that is all I really remember. I have tried other search sites with no luck. If anyone has any ideas at all, I would greatly appreciate them!!

I have a tough one, but since we have so many fans of fantasy/dystopic I have faith that someone will know what I'm talking about.
It's a book I haven't read, but would like to. There are at least 2 books about the same events and characters. My library had them shelved separately, though, one as YA, the other as J(unior). They are about a group of kids who were sent away (possibly on a boat) to save them. I think it kind of turns into a "Lord of the Flies" type of thing, though. The author's last name is either at the beginning of the alphabet or the very end. I know this is kinda random and not very helpful, but if anyone has a clue as to what I may be describing, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks.

This is not a book I have read, and I am pretty sure it is not YA, but since I know we have some "older" (no offense guys!) Wild Things members I thought I would ask anyway.
Anyone here ever read a book where something that makes you invisible is invented but the people who "go invisible" cannot see becasue the light cannot reflect off their eyes? That is all I know about it. One of my teachers told me to look out for it (knowing I read alot) and so just thought I would ask! I know that is pretty vague. . .sorry.
Thanks!

If you have a book you're trying to remember and have not been able to locate through internet searches, provide as much information about it as you can, and hopefully some lovely Wild Things member will also remember it and be able to provide more info.
