Lori Van Buskirk | 73 comments of how addicted you are to your computer, the internet, these book boards and blogs, until your boss removes the Internet from your computer at work.

Since that's what happened to me this week, I've been dying to catch up here. I'm in the process of getting a laptop or notebook or something for myself so that while I'm sitting at work for 8 hrs I can catch up with everyone. There's nothing worse than the 3rd shift and nothing to do! I'm hoping to find something by the weekend so I can get back into the groove with the group again! I really miss reading all the posts. I'm going to try and catch up on the weekend when I have time to sit too.

Don't forget about me, I'll be back soon! LOL

Melissa (mblisa) Lori~ just curious..what kind of job do you have?
:)

I work part-time at a local office, and I have internet there--that I can check emails, etc..on breaks and lunch. That would be a bummer..to have your boss take the Internet off of your computer at work..
maybe they were concerned with viruses, etc.

What a bummer, Lori. Is s/he concerned about internet abuse?

Lori Van Buskirk | 73 comments I work the 3rd shift at a cancer center as the on call operator. So if the phone doesn't ring, I don't have anything to do. While I"m there, I read a lot and the computer helped break up the long hours and kept me awake when I was getting tired from reading.

Mostly we were having problems with viruses and somehow we kept getting them. Everyone swears it wasn't them and I know I wasn't downloading anything but somehow we were getting things.

My laptop should be here in a few days and I"ve been making a dent in my library pile so it's not a total waste!

I worked 3rd shift many years ago and really liked it. Unfortunately with what I do know, working days is it, but if I could get a job where I could work graveyards again, I'd do it. As long as I can get a nice dark room I don't have any trouble sleeping in the day time, and then I had the evenings to spend with DH before I went to work. He was in the Air Force back then and worked rotating shifts himself so it wasn't a problem.

Melodie, is that what brought you all to Colorado? I know the Air Force Academy is in Colorado Springs.

Yes, that's how we ended up in Colorado. His last duty station was at what used to be Buckley ANGB, but now it's a full fledged Air Force base. He worked in the power plants that supplied independent power to the ray-domes that track most of the US spy satellites. I had a good job at the time he got out and the place I worked wanted to hire him, too, so we stayed when he got out.

We lived in NM when I had the third shift job, tho.

Lori Van Buskirk | 73 comments I can't believe how much I like the shift. It's too busy during the day for me and I'm there for the kids on days off, the summer and for after school things. And now I have my new notebook so I'm good! LOL

This is also why it is not coincidence that I live so near to the submarine base (still).
