SOLVED: Inventor/genius YA book [s]

There's a kid, I think his name is Alvin or Albin, and he's an inventor and he makes his bed with this invention where he pulls a string and it happens (this is not the plot of the book, just a side anecdote that I remember). He has two friends, a boy and a girl I think. Maybe the sister is called "pest" by him? I maybe mixing up books, movies here...it's so hard to remember these books!

Nevermind, found it. It's "Marvelous Inventions of Alvin Fernald" by Clifford B. Hicks, Charles Geer (Illustrator). Google is powerful thing...
