At first I really liked the quick, easy pace but by the end I think it felt like it was missing something. This could have been a five star book with a little more character development and backstory. As it was, I think it was more along the lines of "adequate." But even though it didn't rock my world, I certainly enjoyed it. I liked it better than American Gods, which I liked but didn't ever quite click for me.

I had the same reaction. I kept trying to identify what it reminded me of and it never really came into focus.
I enjoyed this book but didnt find it as fabulous as everyone from other blog spots rave. I really liked American Gods so it isnt just I dont like his style. As someone said, I think the book had the elements of a great book, however in the middle I started skimming because it was just dragging. I agree the charicters may have been underdeveloped.
I am a little surprised and pleased to open this thread and see others weren't wildly impressed by this. I thought I might be missing something. Anyway, this is my first post to this group.
Glad to be here.

P.S. check out my book website at http://www.freewebs.com/lelue/

A favorite modern 'fairy tale' that I'd read to my kids if they were still little.
