Finished it last week. It was a re-read - I first read it shortly after it came out. It was just as intriguing on a second go-around as it was the first..
I have finished read it, the story is exciting. But i want to know is there any further book for neverwhere? cause i think the anding is....
Read it about eight months ago for the first time. It's still fresh in my mind, and I still look back on it with a smile on my face.
Reread it a few weeks ago. Felt like a different read the second time around since it had been so long, but I still love it.
I read it last year and really liked it. I don't have time to read it again. Hopefully, the discussion will trigger memories.
I read this a few weeks ago for the group read, and I liked it a lot. I think I really liked that it was a quick read, because I had so many books I was trying to get done last month. At first I really liked the quick, easy pace but by the end I think it felt like it was missing something. This could have been a five star book with a little more character development and backstory. As it was, I think it was more along the lines of "adequate." But even though it didn't rock my world, I certainly enjoyed it. I liked it better than American Gods, which I liked but didn't ever quite click for me.
Besides the premise of the book, I can't really say I like anything else about this book. The characters were forgettable, I didn't find myself caring for any of them. The plot was interesting at first but it never did develope into anything. I felt like most of the events that happened were pretty pointless and added nothing to the story. To me things just happened, it didn't feel really coherent. The ending was just really cliche and kind of a let down.
Finished on Tuesday. I liked it well enough. It kept reminding me of ...something. But I could never quite put my finger on it.
I just finished and enjoyed this quite a bit. I agree with some that the characters are not well developed but it has a good plot and nice twists. I'm giving it a thumbs up.-- Wife of author Michael J. Sullivan: The Crown Conspiracy | Avempartha
Just finished my re-read last night. I wasn't sure if I would read it again, but then realized that I remember almost nothing specifics. I remembered basic plot, but almost nothing else (like names, how the characters interacted, you know, the important stuff).
I just finished this morning, and I'm quite impressed overall. Neil Gaiman has a great sense of the fantastical. I do wish some of the characters were a bit more developed, but I also got the sense he was leaving the door open for a sequel. Has anyone seen the BBC series? I'm thinking I'll order it.
I would love to see the BBC series...I'm not sure I want to buy it but wonder if it is rentable from BlockBusters.
A very enjoyable book. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to give Gaiman a try. If you don't like this book, then you won't like Neil Gaiman.
Shannon wrote: "Finished on Tuesday. I liked it well enough. It kept reminding me of ...something. But I could never quite put my finger on it."I had the same reaction. I kept trying to identify what it reminded me of and it never really came into focus.
I enjoyed this book but didnt find it as fabulous as everyone from other blog spots rave. I really liked American Gods so it isnt just I dont like his style. As someone said, I think the book had the elements of a great book, however in the middle I started skimming because it was just dragging. I agree the charicters may have been underdeveloped.
I am a little surprised and pleased to open this thread and see others weren't wildly impressed by this. I thought I might be missing something. Anyway, this is my first post to this group.
Glad to be here.
Welcome aboard, Lily. Sorry you didn't enjoy the book too much. This is one of my favorites. I actually like it MORE than [Book: American Gods] (though just barely). Blasphemy, I know.
I've read that book a while ago. It wasn't bad. In fact it was off to a terrific start and some how lost me when they reached the fantasy element. I mean it was entertaing but I just couldn't get into it. I read a couple other Niel Gaimen works, and I felt the same way. I just don't think his stuff is bad, it's just not something I can really get into.P.S. check out my book website at http://www.freewebs.com/lelue/
A re-read for me because I was pointed toward the BBC mini series based on the book and I wanted to refresh my memory. BBC did a fairly good job, including many lines right out of the book.A favorite modern 'fairy tale' that I'd read to my kids if they were still little.
