Anne of Green Gables
question
What is your favourite scene in Anne of Green Gables?

It has been several years since I last read this book but certain scenes are still very vivid in mind. What scene did you particularly enjoy?

When Marilla asks Anne why she doesn't talk as much anymore and Anne says that she just doesn't feel like as much and prefers to keep her imaginings to herself, like treasures. It was the moment where child Anne was gone and woman Anne came to be.

“For a moment Anne's heart fluttered queerly and for the first time her eyes faltered under Gilbert's gaze and a rosy flush stained the paleness of her face. It was as if a veil that had hung before her inner consciousness had been lifted, giving to her view a revelation of unsuspected feelings and realities. Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one's life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one's side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music, perhaps. . . perhaps. . .love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath. ”
Did anyone else just go "Awwwwww"? It's been too long since I read the books to remember many scenes, but I love Gilbert and Anne.
Hmmm...now I need to get my hands on those books again.

These are a few things I felt raptured while reading:
1) The small tea party with Diana and Anne where they formally ask themselves how do they do eventhough they had spent the whole day together :)
2) The moment when Anne slowly slips away with surprise and happiness when she sees Diana speaking with the person of her life.
3) Anne's letters where she describes every single thing which caught her attention very beautifully.
As everyone says, the whole book was awesome!

I love this series and read Anne of Green Gable over and over again. My favourite part is when when she first meets Rachel Lynde and loses her temper and tells her what she really thinks of her character, and then had to come up with an apology. It was the apology that makes me giggle everytime.
When Anne and Gilbert patches up again. I simply love this book!!!!!!!
Just cannot point to one scene. Every page is memorable.
But if i have to point to one scene, then i love the events leading up to mathew presenting the brown dress with 'puffed sleeves' to anne. It all starts when anne brings home her friends to have a story discussion with them, and mathew finds that there is something different with anne when compared to her friends. He finally decides that its the way marilla dresses anne. It is also among the situations where mathews quiet ways of caring for anne is evident.
I could read this book itself a thousand times.

My childhood would not have been complete without the Anne books. My favourite is the Lady of Shalott scene, it's just too funny. Anne keeps us laughing with all the scrapes she gets in. I read the 1st one at least 12 times.
It might appear strange but I loved the scene towards the end where Anne recieved the news that Gilbert is fine. The relief that she gets and realizes her feelings towards Gilbert. Truely romantic. I can read it again. Below is my blog on it:

The very last scene when she lets go of the grudge and thanks Gilbert for giving up the school to her, finally accepting his friendship. I think it was beautifully written and it showed the embarrassment of the event well, the modesty and good nature of Anne well and the eagerness and boyish charm that made up Gilbert's character well. I reread that last chapter over and over again because it was put together so wonderfully.
I love all the little things Anne gets herself into but my favorite was when she got Diana drunk.
It's so hard to pick one, since it's my favorite book! I would have to say that the slate part is soooo funny!
Oh there are so many. Every scene is memorable, but my favorites are any with Anne and Gilbert. The ones that stick out the most are the Lily Maid scene and the school scenes, especially when she smashes the slate over his head. How can we ever forget?!

My very favourite part was when Matthew presented Anne the dress with the puffed sleeves. What a beautiful thing that was :)
My second favourite is when Matthew dies. I know that sounds crazy but the feelings Anne had over their connection is just pure beauty.
By the way, some people in this thread are pointing out scenes that are either in Anne of Avonlea or Anne of The Island :P Haha But that's ok.

My favourite part was when Anne finally tells Gilbert that she forgave him and then the two of them try to make up for years' worth of lost friendship.
The one that came to me when I read the question is the scene where Matthew is driving Anne home for the train station after their first meeting. She is chatting and enjoying the day and being herself, which endeared her to Matthew. Maybe that is what I like about it. He loved her just for being herself.
My favourite sewn was when Matthew gave her the beautiful blue dress to wear. It made me cry.

-Anne cracking the slate over Gilbert's head!
-Anne flipping out at Rachael.
-Anne's performance, singing.
And so much more... this book is just so sweet. If it were a food, it would be warm jam tarts or homemade bread or a vanilla sponge.
*Starts drooling over keyboard*

In the book, my favorite moments occur when Anne first comes to Green Gables and she gets into all kinds of scrapes. I especially like the liniment cake and the mouse in the plum pudding because I SO would have done that! I also love the beginning when she arrives at Green Gables. Her dialogue with Marilla is priceless. When she learns she gets to stay at Green Gables! The whole book is a gem, really.
In the movie:
The scene when Anne drives home with Matthew and she's chattering on while he drives along so calmly. I love the red roads and the "White Way of Delight," "The Lake of Shining Waters."
"Would you please call me Cordelia?"
When she first sees Gilbert at the picnic and he winks at her "I think your Gilbert Blythe is awfully bold to wink at a strange girl!"
When Anne loses her temper with Mrs. Lynde. I like in the book how Marilla sympathizes with Anne based on a childhood memory of being called ugly.
When Gilbert calls Anne carrots, especially at the end. :swoon:!
"He positively assured me it would turn my hair a beautiful raven black!"
"Some girls lose their hair in a fever or cut it for some good deed. There is nothing romantic about having your hair cut off because you died it."
Matthew's "You're our girl now" and gentle hug just kill me. I love him. He's so sweet.
When Anne gets Diana drunk and when they swear to be bosom friends.
The Lady of Shalott scene is fabulous.
When Anne goes off to college and Marilla realizes how much she's going to miss Anne. "It wasn't luck, it was Providence. He knew we needed her."
When Gilbert takes Anne home from the store and asks her to the White Sands concert.
When Anne and Diana reflect on growing up. Diana wants to be rich and eat ice cream and chicken salad, while Anne is (finally) content with Matthew's string of pearls.
Matthew's death. *sob* and Gilbert's giving up the school for her. I love when he touches her hair and calls her carrots. :swoon: That ending is much better than the original scripted end where she pretended to get mad at him.

I'm not sure how it went in the book, but I loved the scene (and I want to say it was when they were having to cut her green locks) that Marilla really warms up and decides she really belongs with them... Been too long since I read the books (about 15 years), but I can see that scene from the Megan Follows movie with Collen Dewhurst & Richard Farnsworth hugging on her and loving her. Just didn't get any sweeter than that!!
Anne smashing the slate over Gilbert's head is certainly memorable, but I also enjoyed Matthew picking Anne up at the station and then taking her to Green Gables. Those are just two. :) I love Anne of Green Gables.
This is probably obvious but my favourite moment is when Gilbert rescues Anne from drowning. I love that bit so much. I also quite like the bit when after getting Diana drunk by accident she manages to prove to Diana's mother that she is a responsible and good friend for Diana when she saves those two children dying from some kind of illness.
The end when Gilbert and Anne are walking to their homes and they finally make up :)
I loved it when Anne accidentally died her hair green and Marilla had to cut it!
When Marilla thought they were getting a boy and it ended up being Anne instead.
My favorite scene is when she shous at Gilbert and beaks her slate (I think) with his head after he called ehr Carrots (If i'm remembering right) :D!!
Anyone read all the Anne books? My favorites are Anne of the Island, Anne's house of dreams and Anne of avonlea

I've read all published works by Lucy Maud Montgomery. My favorite Anne books are Green Gables, Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside.

i love Matthew and when he goes into the store to buy Anne a dress. 10 pounds of brown sugar!
Of course when ahe almost drowns pretending to be the Lily Maid! That is exactly something I would do!
I loved the Lily Maid scene, the slate over the head, and (for whatever reason) when she went to school and Diana and she couldn't be friends.
Awww!!!! Haha
I love them so much.... Wish I was like Anne.

When Anne is almost drowns when her boat sinks and Gilbert saves the day!
My favorite scenes (at least from the movie, which was almost word for word like the book)
Was she took the dare to walk the ridgepole of the house, fell (with dignity), limped through the woods, got scared and fainted, and the last part of that scene, telling Marilla that she did well in school, and got a made her proud. :)
Then sending Diana home drunk,(and later saving Diana's little sister from the croup).
And then near the end,(receiving, and) swapping awards with Gilbert, and making up after all those years. :D
Thanks for bothering to read this!
I can't wait till I get the rest of the books in the series.

I love everything from beginning to end. Every scene is classic and memorable. Everytime I read this book or even the movie, I feel like I'm in a whole different world. All time favorite!!
Too many to count! I could read this over and over again!
It is so hard to pick one scene, but I would have to go with the one in which Matthew first meets Anne at the station and the trip back to Green Gables. I love Matthew's quiet, "Well now, I don't know" in contrast to Anne's lively chatter! They were such polar opposites, but still true kindred spirits!
SPOILER!
I may be thinking of the movie when I write this, but here goes.
-Anne smashes her plate against Gilbert's head
-Anne floats down the river
-Anne realizes that she loves Gilbert
-Anne studies so hard to beat Gilbert
