Group Book Read Nominations- August

Mountain Man

and
The Remaining

Just curious -- how much do you make per book on a Prime loan? Most of the Amazon newsletters indicate over $2 per loaned out book. That's not bad for not selling it. Made me feel better about the "free" loans. :)
For those of you with Kindles, Mace of the Apocalypse, Mountain Men, and The Remaining are all available on the Prime free loan program...
I've read The Remaining series (very good), but not the other two. Yet.

The Longest Road: A Zombie Novel (Free to borrow for Kindle Prime)

900 Miles (Free to borrow for Kindle Prime)

No Easy Hope (Surviving The Dead) {Free for Kindle}

LOL - I went to add all of these to my To-read, and they're all already there. We've got some good taste in this group ;)

OK thanks

That's one reason I like reading on the Kindle. So easy. I find myself using it quite a bit when reading books written by British authors. Some English just isn't English. :)

or Mace of the Apocalypse Mace of the Apocalypse

I have been meaning to read Tankbread. Its been siting on my too read list for a while now, but I also own Mountain man and Mace of the Apocalypse.. this is going to be a tough one.

I'd be delighted if you wanted to read and review my book, Blind Hunger. My publisher is out on medical leave. As such, I can't get review copies at this time, but I could give away the two or three paper copies I have in my personal inventory
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...
Let me know and I'll see what I can wrestle up for give-away copies.
Cheers,
Araminta

If you'd like to have a go at me 500 page novel of the inevitable zombie apocalypse title
"Keep Your Crowbar Handy..."
I'll provide e-reader copies to anyone who'd like to take part.
Beers and best wishes!

The Longest Road: A Zombie Novel (Free to borrow for Kindle Prime)
http://www.amazon.com/The-Longest-Roa......"
Thanks for the nom, Carl! I would suggest The Longest Road as well (it's my book lol) but to suggest something else... Z.A. Recht's Plague of the Dead

Seconded. Hugh Howey's I, Zombie is great. It's split into segments of individual experiences. One of them is included in an anthology (Outbreak: Visions of the Apocalypse) that I edited and should be released soon.
I would suggest Voyage of the Dead (the newly edited edition), but I have read it too many times (as has Randy). ;-) But perhaps you haven't? Whether considered or not, I can offer a FREE download by using coupon code ZE75J at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view... (Code valid until the end of July).
Wishing you good reads this summer!

Hi Randy, the Prime loans are usually a good deal for authors. The royalty is a "share" of the "pot" set up by Amazon each month (almost always over $500,000). When "Voyage" was in the prime (KDP Select) program it usually got about $2 per "loan." That's about the same as the regular royalty from sales on a $2.99 indie Kindle. The thing is that books normally selling for $9.99 would also give the same $2 per "loan" and, amazingly, a 99 cent book also gave $2! So it is a GREAT thing for Dollar authors. Or at least it WAS when the Intro version of Voyage was part of it a year ago. ;-)

1. Blue Plague:The Fall
2. Mace of The Apocalypse (Have read, but would LOVE a reason to re-read as has some of the best character development I have seen)
3.Keep Your Crowbar Handy
I am NOT a Prime Member for financial reasons so choosing one that is free to borrow for Prime members means nothing to me, and I cannot afford to buy a new book at this time as I await a major surgery.
The fact that some of the authors are offering their books free in return for a review seems like a real win-win to me, and a way that we can not only read something new, but also show appreciation to the authors who are looking for our support.. *jmo*

Oops! I second "Mace of the Apocalypse" instead. I solicited an excerpt from Dan's book for the Outbreak anthology too. Dan was a charter member of ApocaCon (at the Long Beach Zombie Walk) last year and it was a pleasure to meet him when we were both newbie indies. I've met Hugh too, but he doesn't need the hype. LOL.
PS: I'm organizing ApocaCon2 on October 26 at the Long Beach Zombie Walk and am happy that Daniel J. Williams was one of the first to confirm when I announced it yesterday.

There are so many titles sitting on my to read list that I draw a blank when I go to select the next book.
As I recently told one friend, it's the wheel that squeaks the loudest that gets greased first.
I imagine that the most difficult thing for the author and reviewers alike will be the updates and final reviews. It might be awkward if the title flops and then we are all dancing around each other trying to be polite.

If that does not constitute some sort of "party foul" then I would toss book one of my DEAD series, Dead: The Ugly Beginning http://www.amazon.com/Dead-The-Ugly-B..., into the ring. The bonus is that Amazon has it "price-matched" and so it is free. Book 7 comes out in September, so if anybody gets hooked, there will be plenty more material to read.
In the event I can't nominate my own title, then I would like to nominate Zombie Fallout by Mark Tufo, http://www.amazon.com/Zombie-Fallout-....

"Squeak, Squeak, Squeak!" I would love to nominate my own book, "The Road to Hell is Paved With Zombies." http://www.amazon.com/PAVED-ZOMBIES-Z... "Squeak, squeak, squeak!"
The book is 33,000 words, and goes for 99 cents on Amazon. If you choose it as your group read, though, I will buy ten gift copies for... "one, carry the four, minus six, plus eleven.." Got it! For ten of you! Maybe more, if there are more than ten of you. "Squeak!"
And, thanks to Tammy K. and her reading and reviewing of my first attempts at writing, "The Road to Hell" is MUCH better than those first little attempts! "SQUEAK! SQUEAKITY-SQUEAK!"
Sincerely,
Cedric Nye

Girl Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie

I had not heard of Tim Curran before your post here. I looked him up on amazon and this title. First, yeah it looks like a great book/series. Second, 666 pages is a huge book! It would take quite a long while to get done in a book of the month read because all the group members might not be able to dedicate that much time due to other commitments, maybe a quarterly read?
I seen that it is a collection of all the titles in that mini series or episodic series (whatever you call that format) But that is a rather large commitment (Just my views there) and finally, the Resurrection: Zombie Epic is not available on amazon in e-book format. It might take a while to get a paper copy.. But .. having said all that, I'm glad that you posted it because I will likely try the first episode.

The funniest zombie book I've ever read: Zombie Apocalypse 2012: A Political Horror Story by Ian McClellan Zombie Apocalypse 2012: A Political Horror Story
The most intense zombie book I've ever read: The Road to Hell is Paved with Zombies by Cedric Nye The Road to Hell is Paved With Zombies
The most action-packed zombie novel I've ever read: The Longest Road by A.S. Thompson The Longest Road

Both books in the series are very good. I'm just finishing them up. If we go with this one, both books should probably be on the ballot. Neither is very long.

Dang it! I wanted to nominate your book, J., but that nasty little Grinch in the back of my head made me be a bad monkey!
The simple TRUTH is, J. Cornell Michel's book, "Jordan's Brains: A Zombie Evolution" would be an EXCELLENT choice for a Zombie Group read. www.amazon.com/Jordans-Brains-Zombie-...
I am going to pretend to be contrite now.

Cedric - you're not a bad monkey!

Ya let's read Jordan's brains!! (Because I'm reading it now lol :)

There are a bunch of titles in this thread that I've never read before. They'll be going on my list!! Thanks!

Good points. Although I recommend the book, feel free to remove it from the poll as it wouldn't be a good fit for a group read.

The nominations for August have closed and the poll has been posted. We can take nominations again for September or you can participate in a Read for Review in the interim.

Today is the 24th...

But based on the phrasing, we might be dealing with a time zone issue (if Jim is in Australia for example). ;)
I posted the poll early because the number of nominations was getting a bit extreme. I apologize for not specifically stating that when I posted the poll. I wanted to try and keep the number of nominations manageable as we were already at 25 books on Jul 21. Technically, write-in votes are allowed but I encouraged against that this month because of the number of nominations already. Currently we have 25 nominations but less than 25 votes from 2000+ members. We plan on continuing group reads each month and I can carry over nominations that weren't on the list this month.
Also, self-nominations, while not disallowed, may be more effective through the Read for Review depending on the intent of the author. Those are intended to be weekly so even if a book didn't make the nomination list this month, they have other avenues. If the intent is to generate reviews, that method may be more effective because it requires the readers specifically to post reviews for the book. With group reads, there are no guarantees people will even read the book. I am moderating another group read for a book that received 13 votes (2nd most) but only has 2 active readers including myself despite the number of votes.

It's possible I disabled write-ins for this months poll. I'm not seeing a way to go back and change that currently.

Not a problem, Jim. Just noticed the exchange and thought I would comment. Thanks for including Voyage of the Dead on the list. Of course every author wants reviews. I have hundreds on Goodreads and Amazon, but only two on Smashwords. So I am happy to offer Free copies there in return for reviews. ;)

I loved Mace of the Apocalypse!!!!!!! Dan Williams is a genius on it & I am not being biased either! LOL great series!
also David Forsythe's Voyage of the Dead is a fabulous series!
