Most of the Amazon newsletters indicate over $2 per loaned out book. That's not bad for not selling it. Made me feel better about the "free" loans. :)

Although I've already read it, I need to read it again as I wasn't really focused enough due to a pinched nerve. I'm going to nominate Resurrection: Zombie Epic by Tim Curran. I think half of you might love it and the other half will want to have me banned. It's not for everyone and if you're familiar with Tim Curran, he gets into A LOT of detail, has a ridiculous vocabulary (I had to look up a ton of words) and gets away from the traditional slow, mindless shamblers.

One of them is included in an anthology (Outbreak: Visions of the Apocalypse) that I edited and should be released soon.
I would suggest Voyage of the Dead (the newly edited edition), but I have read it too many times (as has Randy). ;-) But perhaps you haven't? Hi Randy, the Prime loans are usually a good deal for authors. The royalty is a "share" of the "pot" set up by Amazon each month (almost always over $500,000). When "Voyage" was in the prime (KDP Select) program it usually got about $2 per "loan." That's about the same as the regular royalty from sales on a $2.99 indie Kindle. The thing is that books normally selling for $9.99 would also give the same $2 per "loan" and, amazingly, a 99 cent book also gave $2! So it is a GREAT thing for Dollar authors. Or at least it WAS when the Intro version of Voyage was part of it a year ago. ;-)

I am NOT a Prime Member for financial reasons so choosing one that is free to borrow for Prime members means nothing to me, and I cannot afford to buy a new book at this time as I await a major surgery.
The fact that some of the authors are offering their books free in return for a review seems like a real win-win to me, and a way that we can not only read something new, but also show appreciation to the authors who are looking for our support.. *jmo*

Oops! I second "Mace of the Apocalypse" instead. I solicited an excerpt from Dan's book for the Outbreak anthology too. Dan was a charter member of ApocaCon (at the Long Beach Zombie Walk) last year and it was a pleasure to meet him when we were both newbie indies. I've met Hugh too, but he doesn't need the hype. LOL.
PS: I'm organizing ApocaCon2 on October 26 at the Long Beach Zombie Walk and am happy that Daniel J. Williams was one of the first to confirm when I announced it yesterday.
Since I don't want to recommend one of my own titles, I will just wait for the final outcome for what to read. However, if one of my titles ever make the cut, I will happily agree to moderate.
I don't know how the others think on this but personally, I feel that this is as good as any to toss out your title if your an author. There are so many titles sitting on my to read list that I draw a blank when I go to select the next book.
As I recently told one friend, it's the wheel that squeaks the loudest that gets greased first.
I imagine that the most difficult thing for the author and reviewers alike will be the updates and final reviews. It might be awkward if the title flops and then we are all dancing around each other trying to be polite.

If that does not constitute some sort of "party foul" then I would toss book one of my DEAD series, Dead: The Ugly Beginning http://www.amazon.com/Dead-The-Ugly-B..., into the ring. The bonus is that Amazon has it "price-matched" and so it is free. Book 7 comes out in September, so if anybody gets hooked, there will be plenty more material to read.

I think half of you..."I had not heard of Tim Curran before your post here. I looked him up on amazon and this title. First, yeah it looks like a great book/series. Second, 666 pages is a huge book! It would take quite a long while to get done in a book of the month read because all the group members might not be able to dedicate that much time due to other commitments, maybe a quarterly read?
I seen that it is a collection of all the titles in that mini series or episodic series (whatever you call that format) But that is a rather large commitment (Just my views there) and finally, the Resurrection: Zombie Epic is not available on amazon in e-book format. It might take a while to get a paper copy.. But .. having said all that, I'm glad that you posted it because I will likely try the first episode.

If submissions aren't closed, I'd like to put a name or two in the hat. I've been wanting to read Portlandtown: A Tale of the Oregon Wyldes and The Dead for a while now. Maybe The Dead a little more than Portlandtown. I've never read either of these, but if you guys want one that I have read and can recommend highly I'd say to read The Reapers Are the Angels. It's one of my favorites. There are a bunch of titles in this thread that I've never read before. They'll be going on my list!! Thanks!

I think Brian was referring to the header post of this thread that says: "Please nominate any books you would like to read by 24 Jul. After that date I will create a poll so people can vote for their top choice." But based on the phrasing, we might be dealing with a time zone issue (if Jim is in Australia for example). ;)

Also, self-nominations, while not disallowed, may be more effective through the Read for Review depending on the intent of the author. Those are intended to be weekly so even if a book didn't make the nomination list this month, they have other avenues. If the intent is to generate reviews, that method may be more effective because it requires the readers specifically to post reviews for the book. With group reads, there are no guarantees people will even read the book. I am moderating another group read for a book that received 13 votes (2nd most) but only has 2 active readers including myself despite the number of votes.
