Carly I have always been a fan of Isaac Asimov. :)

Meran As a teen, I would never read the little explanation blurbies in front of books (or the thanks in the backs)... But Issac was too interesting. I read every bit he put in books, enjoying them SO MUCH that I began reading all that extra stuff. I still do. I learn a lot about writing processes, how different it is for each writer, what inspired them to write THIS story, etc.

I'm kind of surprised I didn't become a writer, honestly. He was/still is very inspiring.

Good thread! :)

Chip Putnam I've recently decided to reread the Robot series and Foundation series. I have been well rewarded. Outside of the obvious depictions of the future culture modeling life in the 1950s United States, Asimov's vision of the future is still as refreshing as it was when I first read these books in the 1980s. He was an incredible author.

Chip Putnam Jim wrote: "IIRC, what Asimov said about writing was that his focus was the ideas of sci-fi. He never had the goal of becoming a "great writer" (as in writing beautiful prose for the sake of literary acclai..."
I can't believe I missed that reference on Babylon 5. What a great show.

Jamal Thompson I only been introduced to his work recently. But from the little i have seen I been impressed.

Jonathan Harbour Haven't read the Foundation or Robot novels in a couple decades; it's high time I read them again. I do occasionally pick up End of Eternity, The Gods Themselves, and his short stories again. I've listened to Forward and Prelude many times so I'll skip them... My faves were Foundation's Edge and Robots of Dawn. Then of course those two grand series came together at the end. Very satisfying.

Gary Henson It's so great to see Asimov's work being discussed and enjoyed! I grew up with this amazing man's work and I reread many of his books whenever I want to get my SciFi high fix.

Check out his other genres too, including many, many scientific, historical and even humor volumes.

The End of Eternity and the Robot series are among my all time favorite stories. As a young boy, they opened a whole new Universe to me.

Time to go find that copy of 'The Gods Themselves'. It's on my bookshelf somewhere....

Jamal Thompson Thanks gary end of eternity sounds like a cool title i might have to check it out
