Elizabeth | 43 comments *spoils the mortal instruments first three books.
I read the mortal instruments before the infernal devices, however, are there people who read them vice versa, and realized the similar characteristics between Will and Jace? Are there people who guessed that Jace was actually a Herondale?

Sabrina (Nana210) | 28 comments I actually read TID first and saw the family tree. Before I read TMI, I thought he was Jace Herondale but he was not ! Then I found his profile on Shadowiki. His real name is Jace Herondale. P/s: I'm not sure tho !

message 3: by Renee (new)

Elizabeth | 43 comments So did you guys guess his heritage BEFORE it was revealed

message 9: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (Nana210) | 28 comments Yeah ! I thought his last name was Herondale when I started to read that book ( I read TID first) because of family tree in the back of Clockwork princess's cover. I doubted that he's Wayland.

Sabrina (Nana210) | 28 comments Me too ! I read TID first ! When I started to read COB, I thought Jace was Jace Herondale. I thought I was wrong but that was right ! I'm glad cuz he was a lot, a lot like Willlllllll.

message 11: by Renee (new)

Renee well I read Mortal Instruments first, and I had never heard of the Herondale family, only that there was such thing apparently in the 'other books series' as I knew it back then.
And then there was the inquisitor and she said something about his father being proud and that was my first seed of doubt that he was Wayland.

message 12: by Renee (new)

Renee I found out when they revealed it, like a true suprised reader! ha ha

She also apparently spotted the mark on his body that all Herondale descendants bare.

-Athina- (_athena_) | 16 comments oh yes the 'cave scene' !!!!
I read TMI first and hadn't heard of the Herondales before either but when I read TID I began to understand how obvious it was that Jace is a Herondale !

Rachel (APCB Reviews) (gr8rach) | 75 comments On goodreads, sometimes people refer to him as Jace/Jonathan Wayland/Herondale/Morgenstern/Lightwood. It's quite a mouthful.

AWWWWW SO SWEET!!!!"

When I saw it was Ithuriel trapped in there I was thinking "Come on Ithuriel! You have to be more careful!!" First Magister, then Valentine!!

message 18: by Margaret (new)

Margaret (pearapple) Before I even read Clockwork Princess (still haven't finished), I knew that Tessa and Will had to get together cuz How else would Jace be alive? Will only loves one person and that is Tessa. Jem is going to die and that opens it up for them to be together! Will woudn't fall in love with anyone else but Tessa, just like Jace and Clary

Well he was never given a first name by his parents. 'Jace' is what he calls himself. As for surname well he would be a 'Herondale' by birth and a 'Lightwood' by adoption.

There are ways it could have happened without Will and Tess although you have to stretch yourself a bit.

1) Will could have married someone else especially if Tessa had gone on and married Jem. Maybe Bridget lol. Stephen broke with Amatis, even though he clearly loved her, to marry Celine. OK I can't see Will doing this but still.

2) Will parents could have had a another son.

And stretching it even more......

2) Another daughter who became Consul and gave her family surname to the baby like Charlotte and Henry did to Cary's obvious ancestor.

Marty | 1 comments WARNING: the following post contains spoilers about Tessa's true identity and the epilogue of CP2.

I just finished rereading both series (TMI and TID) and I realized something that I thought was a little ironic. This is going on the (probably pretty valid) assumption that Jace is in fact directly descended from Will and Tessa, but if Tessa is half Greater Demon, then doesn't that mean that Jace does in fact have demon blood in him? I mean it doesn't change anything about his character of course, but isn't it a bit ironic that in CoG Jace was freaking out about being part demon and he sort of is?

message 27: by Inda (new)

Inda (indaherwood) | 129 comments I think the angel blood took care of it. And his blood would be pretty diluted in the first place since they are his ancestors that go WAY back.

Yes but if Shadowhunter blood is always dominant because it's blood of the Angel (hence Will with only a Shadowhunter for a father is still a Shadowhunter), wouldn't the same go for demon blood.

There seem to be quite a few Shadowhunter family trees about which detail Jace's descent from Will (http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl...) however, I read CP2 on the Kindle and apparently there is a family tree on the sleeve of the paper version. This didn't appear in the Kindle. The following from her website states........

"In fact it was really fun for me to come up with a family tree that was massively misleading. Remember, family trees are found objects — they contain only as much information as whoever drew them had. Secret marriages, arranged marriages, people being secretly dead, people being secretly other people: the family tree doesn’t reflect any of that. In fact, some of the most important characters (One of whom is a certain JH’s parabatai) don’t appear on the family tree at all.
In fact, when the Bane Chronicle is released that takes place during/around TLH*, I think everyone is going to be like: “HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? IT DOES NOT MATCH UP.” But it does, in the end…
*TLH: the series that comes between TID and TMI, that takes place around 1903, that I have stated the acronym for (TLH) but not the full name, that has no deadline or planned publication dates because while I am having lots of fun working on the idea, I don’t want to work to deadline right now so that means it’s a WIP."

Now what does that say for Alec who is JH parabatai?
