I suspect that 90+ percent of them tiptoe quietly away , carefully not making eye contact
I can see why Amazon wanted Goodreads, their own forum, unmoderated (to all intents and purposes, anything moderated by bot is unmoderated) and unloved could even be losing them money

Chris Ward (chriswardfictionwriter) | 40 comments While I hate those horrible shark pit forums I could see why a lot of people got riled. I haven't visited them in years but when I did, practically every post would be something like,

OP - So, what kind of sci-fi do you guys like?

First responder - I love such and such genre, which is great, because I also really love writing it, and by the way, here's my book link - (link).

Got boring very quickly when it went on for pages and pages. I think the MOA forum was only created to keep all the linkers in one place. Some of the vitriol that gets spat out is a little over the top, though. A lot of new authors start out as spammers because they don't know any better, but the good ones will figure it out sooner rather than later.

Is this the bit where we all get raging drunk and emotionally confess how much we love each other while insisting that it's not the drink talking?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Its losing them my money. I was so annoyed I stopped looking at the site and stopped buying from Amazon altogether for a while. I still do a comparison and buy elsewhere if the price is similar on principal. I doubt the trolls are big spenders.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments well how could they be with those bridge payments to meet?

sorry.....

I'll go find an author thread to be silly in, shall I?

Some people are easily amused! :)

Myself included - I've got nearly 400 posts on this site. I feel ashamed! :)

Only 400 posts? You *should* feel ashamed - you're not trying, lad!

I was thinking that, I think he ought to be on some sort of regime, twenty posts a day, before breakfast

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Actually, the Amazon forum is also set up in a really strange way. Forumites are used to a similar lay out everywhere on the whole and Amazon is it's own thing which means a lot of the stuff any old hand would do/check whatever as a matter of course is really hard to discover.

That's just my twopennorth.

I also think that people who are used to.

"Sticky: Please Read This before posting" and the like at the top of a forum are not going to think "Important announcement from Amazon" means anything.

Cheers

MTM

absolutely, life's too short to read the rules :-)
Only if all else fails do you read the manufacturers instructions

message 68: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I tend to read a few posts. It's usually very obvious very fast whether or not it's sensible to read the rules. I usually look at the rules to see if there's anything different from usual in there. If I wanted to read the rules on Ammy, I wouldn't know where to look.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments oh how i wish everyone would read our sticky threads in the group.
would save me hours of time.
that i could better spend lighting curtains and being sarcastic
;-)

message 70: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I've even fitted self igniting curtains and automated self depreciation to my thread.
That's probably why it's sunk like a stone :-(

message 71: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 145 comments I have pretty much stopped going to Amazon forums now, because of the atmosphere. They really do need moderation. People on the kindle forum seem to invest so much time in bitching/fighting/trolling/backstabbing it is hard to see that they actually manage to find time to read a book.
