She sighed and kissed his cheek before getting up. He smiled and offered her his hand.
"Are you leaving?" He asked her.She smiled and took his hand, moving close to dance.
"I have to," she said. "I don't want to, but I have to."He put his hands on her waist.
"Alright... I'll see you around." He said to her.She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.
She nodded then left. He danced with her, twirling her at one point.
He walked back to the party and saw them dancing and watched them.She giggled and smiled happily at him.
She went and sat down at the river near the stables. He smiled back. "Are you having fun?"
He watched them dance and smiled softly.She nodded. "Yes I am." She said with a smile.
-next day-She wandered around the market, trailed by Derek. He'd been drinking, only becoming more obvious when he pulled her behind the stables and slapped her.
He didn't see what was happening, he was riding one of the horses on the trail.
Reese saw and ran around. "Hey!" He shouted.She was walking around the trails, looking for him.
Derek ran off, but Alice sat down and leaned against the wall. His ring had made her bleed and she'd hit her head. He was sitting by the cliff with his horse tied to the tree.
He knelt down. "Alice, are you okay?" He asked, then saw her injury. He picked her up and brought her inside.She was flitting around, wearing the scarf he gave her. She went down to the river and sat by it, where she didn't realize he could see her.
She struggled before realizing it was him. He looked over at her then back out at the river and sighed. It was hot so he took off his shirt.
"Don't worry." He murmured, bringing her to the back room.She didn't notice him and put her toes in the water, starting to sing.
She laid her head on his shoulder. He got into the water and started swimming downriver.
He grabbed the first aid kit and set her on a barrel of hay.She saw him and stood up, walking down the riverside, unsure if it was him.
"If you want to do this do it properly," she said. She pulled off her sweater and track pants, revealing more cuts and bruises. Some were hidden by her tank top and shorts.
"I will." He said to her, and started to treat the ones he could see at least. He was gentle and careful with her.
She winced when he got to the worst areas, but let him work. "I'm happy I met you," she said. He kept swimming, not realizing she was following.
"I'm glad I met you." He replied, being as gently as possible.
She ran to catch up, still not sure if it was him.
She kissed his cheek. "He's a real brute, isn't he?"He sat on the riverbank near her after a few minutes.
He nodded. "I'm really sorry." He said to her.She smiled and went over. "Andrew?" She said, noticing he was shirtless. It made her stomach churn and her mouth water.
"Don't be," she said. He smiled at her, not noticing her reaction. "Hey."
"I have to be." He said, working on her head.She smiled. "What are you doing here?" She asked him.
She sighed."Stalling," he said.
He finished up and put a band aid on it. "There, done." He said, and kissed her cut softly."For what?" She asked him, going to sit by him.
She laid her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arms around him. "Trying not to go to work," he said. "I had a rough night."
He stroked her hair and held her tight."Oh... What happened?" She asked him, wondering what happened after the party.
She stayed cuddled up to him. "I couldn't get to sleep at all," he said. "I'm trying to exhaust myself so I can sleep."
"Does it hurt much?" He asked her softly."Oh, I'm sorry. If you don't want to, we can go horseback riding tomorrow or something." She said to him softly.
"Not much," she said. "It's alright, we can go now," he said.
"That's good." He said softly."Oh, alright." She said, getting up and putting her hand to the scarf self consciously.
She sighed. "Don't worry."He stood and offered her his hand.
He nodded and hugged her close.She smiled and took his hand softly, trying not to look at his chest.
She hugged him back. He led her back to the horse, still oblivious.
"It'll be okay." He murmured.She bit her lip and looked down, unable to look at him without his shirt.
"How do you know?" she asked. "You alright?" he asked.
"I just know it." He said softly to her.She looked up at his face and nodded. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just... A little distracted." She said, eyeing his perfect body slightly.
She sighed. "I hope you're right."He blushed, grabbing his shirt from the saddle bag and putting it on.
"I am." He said with a smirk.She blushed and looked down. "Sorry..." She said softly.
She elbowed him lightly. "It's okay," he said. "It's your comfort." He sat on the horse and helped her up.
He smiled and held her elbow.She tried to get up, but slipped and fell on the ground on her butt.
She kissed his cheek. He got off and helped her back up, making sure she was steadily on.
He smiled and kissed her cheek back.She smiled at him and held onto the saddle, waiting for him to get on.
She laid her head on his shoulder. He got on. "Wrap your arms around me."
He smiled and held her. "When do you need to leave?" He asked her.She blushed slightly and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"I said I'm staying in the neighboring kingdom with a friend for a week," she said. "I don't need to leave for a while... I had planned to wander but I wanted to talk to you about it first."He flicked the reigns and the horse started heading home.
She looked at him and smiled. "Yes please." She said softly.
