"Derek," she whispered. "He is this." He helped her onto her horse than got on his.
"Where is he?" He asked angrily, getting up.
She smiled, feeling more confident this time.
"Don't leave me," she whispered, taking his hand. "He's gone. My dad kicked him out when he heard what Derek was doing to me."He kept pace with her.
He nodded in relief. "Good." He said, holding her hand.She looked over and smiled at him.
"Can you put the extra pillow by my left shoulder?" She asked. He kissed her cheek. "Remind me to teach you how to run with a horse after this."
He nodded and moved it gently.She nodded. "Okay." She said to him.
She winced when he accidentally moved her arm. He led her to the track.
"I'm sorry... Oh god I'm sorry." He said to her.She smiled and followed.
She shook her head. "Don't be."He smiled at her.
He nodded and kissed her softly. "I'm not leaving." He said to her."What's this?" She asked him.
She kissed him back. "Good.""What do you mean?" He asked. T
He just sat there and held her hand."This road, I've never seen it before." She said to him.
She carefully pulled the sheet a bit higher around herself before her dad came in. "How you doing, Ri?" He asked.
She smiled a bit. "Better than last night. Dad, this is Alex."
Alex dropped her hand gently and got up. "Your highness." He said, and bowed.
Her father smiled a bit. "She told me everything. You don't have to do that."
"What do you mean sir, I mean your highness." He said to him. He stood up straight for him.
Her father smiled. "Ri told about what was between the two of you and how you love each other. You don't have to act completely proper."
He nodded. "Yes sir. But... You're not mad? I'm just a stable boy." He said to him.
He shook his head. "Of course not... To be honest I feel guilty about being blind to what was happening. It wouldn't be right to force Ri into another marriage if she's already found somebody."
He nodded. "I agree. But, I'm still not sure if it would be right for her to marry me, even though I want to." He said to him.
"I have the power to make you more than a stable hand," he said. "I can make you a lord. I can arrange to have you properly prepared to marry a royal...""I want to help with that," she said.
"Really?" He asked, surprised. He went back and took her hand.
She smiled up at him. Her father nodded. "Of course. It's the least I can do."
He smiled. "Thank you sir." He said to him.
"I can arrange for you to stay in the castle," he said. "I'll tell the staff to set an extra place at dinner."
"That would be amazing. I just need to tell my parents." He said to him.
Her father nodded. "Pack your favourite items, but leave the majority of your clothes. The seamstresses will make you new ones."
He nodded, completely unused to this. "Okay." He said.
She kissed his hand. "I'll answer all your questions later."
She still hadn't moved when he came back, but one of the nurses had changed her sheets.
He came back after putting his stuff away. "Hey." He said to hdd
Smiled. "Hey." She gestured towards the pile of folded clothes by her bed. "Those are yours."
He grinned. "Thanks. I can't believe this is happening." He said to her.
She smiled. "My dad's generous. You know that."
She gestured to the pile of clothes again. It was a cotton button-up shirt with an embroidered crest on the pocket, and simple black pants. "Put them on, see if they fit."
He smiled and took them. "I'll be right back." He said, and went to change.
She sat up carefully, leaning back against the pile of pillows. She examined her injuries.
She covered herself with the sheet again, smiling at him. "You look amazing."
She kissed his cheek.
She kissed him back.
He pulled away and kissed her forehead. "What hurts?" He asked her.
"My right arm and four ribs are broken, my left shoulder was dislocated, I have a stress fracture in my back, and both my ankles are badly sprained," she said.
His eyes widened. "What did he do to you?" He asked her.
She smiled at him.
