this might have been a movie, or it might have been a book, I don't know. All I remember is there was an old man that everybody thought was mean, and nobody liked. Can you elaborate on the characters any more and do you know what timeframe roughly you read/watched this?

I think it was probably based in like late 90s to early 2000s. I probaly read it around 2007-2009 time, but I suck at dates, so I'm not sure. I think the boy had some friends he normally hung out with. I'm pretty sure it was a book, too.
