Thank you! Don't know why I couldn't find that myself. I think my Kindle is hooked into .com -- and I'm not sure the UK specials work. Will soon find out!

Bit late to this as just noticed the summer sale!

Snapped up 3 Ira Levin's and also a couple of history books that would be ££££ in paper or hardback: The Victorian City: Everyday Life in Dickens' London and The Lady Penelope: The Lost Tale of Love and Politics in the Court of Elizabeth I.

Pleased with that mini-haul :)

Agree that Nothing To Envy is a v good read.

message 56: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Oooo well spotted on "The Victorian City"!

Has any one mentioned this The White Queen tie-in: The Women of the Cousins' War

message 58: by Chantal (new)

Chantal (chantal77) | 151 comments Mod
I knew you'd like that one Jean :)

I saw that too Jen but I already have this one on Kindle: Blood Sisters: The Women Behind The War Of The Roses

Just snapped up The Redemption of Alexander Seaton, just 69p in the Kindle store atm.

message 60: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
This is 99p today.

Anyone heard of it? I am very divided on it - child snatch trauma, normally makes me go ugh, however the reviews on here and on Amazon are fantastic....

The Cry

message 61: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman My thoughts exactly, Jo... Not heard of it before, but I am tempted!

message 62: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mrswhams) | 730 comments Mod
Not heard of it but can't deal with anything related to child trauma...

Capital by John Lanchester is 99p today if anyone missed it last time. Have heard good things.

message 63: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
I enjoyed Capital, it's not brilliant, but it's quite a good involved read. I was only talking to a friend yesterday who had it in her car and she was about to start it!

Some bargains today:
The Shining Girls,
The Red Queen,
Gone Girl,
The Secret Keeper,
The White Queen,
You Had Me At Hello
The Twins

and others all at 99p, must be a new 99p sale for October? I had a load of price drop notifications overnight.

message 64: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Intrigued to find that one of my friends gave "Gone Girl" 5* and another 1*. Now there's a book I have to read for myself! So thanks for the info Jo. I have just bought it!

message 65: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
And I gave it 3* so you have the full spectrum.

message 66: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) So you did, Jo! No review though so maybe it didn't make much of an impression either way.

I'm not finding many of the Kindle Daily Deals interesting. Does everybody just get 3 of these daily or are there more?

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) I always get 3 per day.

message 68: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) And their categories - Romance, Business, Action, Shopping... *yawn*

(OK I may have made that last one up!)

message 69: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) I've just bought The White Queen and The Red Queen. And I've put the rest of the series in my Wishlist to watch for price drops. No idea when I'll get round to reading them, but could not resist at that price!

message 70: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Same here Elizabeth, I snapped up White Queen a few weeks ago, Red Queen today, and similarly in case I have a Tudor Flush some time, I'll stock them up as the price drops.

message 71: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 82 comments Thanks for posting this, Jo, I've just bought three of them, couldn't resist at that price!

message 72: by Agata (new)

Agata Wightman The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks and The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson are both 99p from kindle store.

message 73: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Ooo, I'll have The Wasp Factory then. Thank you. I've read the 100 Year Old Man. It does divide opinion but I loved it. Suspend reality and dive on in. Crazy but fun!

message 74: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
The wasp factory is brilliant and shocking

message 75: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Been on my TBR for ages. I consider that a bargain.

message 76: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) The Hundred Year Old Man I thought was very funny. Appealed to my sense of humour but not everyone likes it.

message 77: by Juno (new)

Juno (junebrighton) I follow price drops here(UK but has links to US and Canadian sites)loads under £1 just now.. http://uk.ereaderiq.com/deals?va=images

message 78: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Loads again today in the UK at 99p, suspect any I list will be on June's list. Amazon having a big sale it seems!
One's I've been notified about are:

Sharp Objects (but reluctant due to worrying that it will have a classic Gillian Flynn rubbish ending!)
Close My Eyes
Looking for Alaska (yey!)
After You'd Gone

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Anyone got any views on the series Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire George R R Martin? A whole load are 99p today, and I know absolutely nothing about them but they are clearly seriously popular. Numbers 1-5 are all this price right now.

I believe it's been on TV, but again, it passed me by. Is it "fantasy"? Lord of the Rings-esque (ish?). I've never read anything remotely fantasy, just not sure how I would get on with other world stuff. But I suppose to get the whole series for £5 isn't bad!

message 80: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
I have got a the first five books that friend gave me. Haven't read them yet. I would be happy to post them on after I have read them

message 81: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mrswhams) | 730 comments Mod
Oh brilliant, thanks Jo. Off to buy! I haven't read the whole series but have seen the TV show and think GoT is wonderful, sweeping and full of extraordinary worlds and characters. It is fantasy but not like Tolkien, more like an historical epic with a big battle for power, lots of strong women characters and clever twists and turns.
They are huge books and the series is not over yet, GRR Martin apparently doesn't write that fast so I can see it might be frustrating to reach the end...

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Finally - a decent Kindle Daily Deal. I've had this recommended to me several times: The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Sneaky though, as it's 1.49 not 99.

message 83: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just saw that one mentioned yesterday on a list of books which students of literature should have read (shared on Facebook). So it's evidently highly thought of. The blurb put me off a bit though. Do I want to read a novel about "divine female power"??

Thanks for the headsup though Jo! :)

message 84: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Jean, I know what you mean - however, even if not one's own personal choice, at least it sounds like a half "decent" book!

message 85: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Absolutely. Drowning in trash.

message 86: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mrswhams) | 730 comments Mod
It would be interesting to see that list, Jean!

I bought The Secret Life of Bees today, too: that is two Daily Deal books in a week after none for ages.

message 87: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Here you go. No idea where it's from - seems an odd selection to me.

English Student Booklist

message 88: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Interesting list. Quite a varied selection. I had a tot up and have read 32 with at least another 10 on the waiting list.

message 89: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
I think I am 38 read, with a minimum of 10 on my to be read list (ie. ones I might actually read as opposed to ones in reality I may never read).

Very varied selection to be sure.

message 90: by Bionic Jean (last edited Oct 04, 2013 07:14AM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Gosh I'm not doing as badly as I thought then with 59. (The only other 2 on Facebook to admit their score were 34 and 68.) Plus some on my to-read list. Of course I do have a few more years under my belt! Hahaha

But generally I could not make much sense of this choice. Do you think maybe it was someone's personal selection? Why those particular 2 Steven Kings, not others, for instance? Why 4 Jane Austens and no Thomas Hardy? And 4 Ian McEwans??

message 91: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (merelyreading) Yes it does look like a personal choice selection. As much as I like Ian McEwan, four of his novels seems excessive on such a comparitively small list.

At least one Hardy should have been there. I would have suggested The Mayor of Casterbridge. I can't remember if there was any Wilkie Collins. If not, then there should be.

message 92: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
I have read 16, with three lurking on bookshelves to read

message 93: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) No Wilkie Collins, no Dylan Thomas... and I think some of the more popular modern ones are fairly interchangeable with some others.

message 94: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mrswhams) | 730 comments Mod
54 for me, with many more on my TBR list. It's an odd collection, though... why any student of literature should NEED to read The Da Vinci Code I don't know, unless as an example of poor writing (I still enjoyed it, but it is shonky)

message 95: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
And The Princess Diaries???

Some stonking "off the scale" ones though - BEOWULF!!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it -though its part of my son's topic right now, aged 9, clearly not in the original form - children's text to go with their Anglo Saxons history season. I feel I should read it so I know what he is talking about. Nice looking version by Rosemary Sutcliff...

message 96: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Oh dear do you realise we are on an ereader book bargains thread...?

message 97: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
I can recommend Spies in the Sky: The Secret Battle for Aerial Intelligence During World War II by Taylor Downing at 99p today for all those that like WW2 history.

message 98: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
My husband won't read on a Kindle, but I will make a note of that one Paul, could get it for his next long flight weekend fatter next. He is fascinated with all that stuff. Thanks

message 99: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston (joster) | 1697 comments Mod
Anyone read any Ian Rankin? Loads are 99p on Kindle at the moment. I've never read one but do quite like some crime type stuff from time to time so would be grateful for any views.

message 100: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I read The Falls a while back. Decent enough story but went on a bit and downbeat, as many contemporary crime novels are nowadays.
