I am noticing a few instances where Ph D name has been added as secondary author for books, instead of merging and eliminating the Ph D?

If I understand correctly what you are asking, those seem to have come from an import we did in mid-2012. We turned off the ability of imports to add secondary names to existing books because of that issue, in fact.

I bet these shouldn't be merged - but since it looks like so many of the books on the gr author's page don't belong to him, I wondered if you had access to the edit page so you could quickly disambiguate?
