Gtbaj1231 | 14 comments I know this is a long shot because I have such little info. Most likely regency romance, but may have been medieval romance. I read it a couple of years ago, but I read books published from 80's to current. The heroine of the book has a "shadow", a man that she saved and he follows her around constantly to make sure she is safe. (The shadow is not her romantic interest in the book.) When she meets her romantic interest, they are in a house where her shadow meets his romantic interest (I think a housekeeper or something similar). Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

The friend has claustrophobia after being tormented (and buried?) by his brothers? Tip of my tongue... A Medieval and he was at one point placed in a cellar/dungeon and went almost catatonic.

I'm thinking of Reckless by Hannah Howell.

The friend is Jaime. And I think he had a love interest in Kate.

Gtbaj1231 | 14 comments I don't remember much about the shadow. Trying to think about made remember a few more details. I think it may have been medieval or Scottish because I think the shadow would follow her throughout the castle or the hall and he made the other people nervous. Now that I think about it, they had imprisoned someone (the hero) who was outside of the walls. When she went to question him, he made her mad and she ordered him whipped. She was going to change her mind, but got distracted (by a nephew or son who broke an arm). The person in charge was mean and beat him much worse than he was supposed to. The shadow helped the prisoner recover. The people who rescued the hero forced her to come with them when they left. (Unless I'm mixing up my books now.) I'll try to recall more.
