Woman changes to vampire but transformation has to be done twice [s]

I've recently been re-reading and the vampiric transformation reminded me of another book. The details that I remember are:

* A woman in a relationship with a vampire decides to change over
* They think the transformation worked but she quickly shows weird traits, like only being able to feed from other vampires?
* At some point they realise something didn't work right and the change to vampire is repeated, after which she functions as a normal vampire with none of her former quirks.

It would have been an urban fantasy or paranormal romance, most likely adult and read within the last 5-10 years. I have no idea about potential authors or covers.
