Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Hey Brandon are you out there? I am kinda wondering where you are at. Will you post so we know you are still here on goodreads?

Does anyone know what has happened to Brandon our group moderator?

message 2: by Ian (new)

Ian McClellan | 294 comments Been wondering about that myself. The group could use some posting guidelines and some folders. Good threads get lost here because everything just piles under one discussion.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Well If he does not show up, and I am seriously hoping that he does. I seen a thread on goodreads support group that the group as a whole might want to discuss.

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Guys and Gals,
I am going to say this here. I feel that this group NEEDS an active moderator!! The threads are all jumbled up, there has been no active book of the month and so on.
I do NOT want to become the moderator!
But I would like us to openly discuss choosing a second moderator And contacting Goodreads per the directions on the thread in the goodreads support group that I listed above, See the last message on that thread.
How do you all feel about this?
IS there anyone (S) who would be willing to assume the moderator role for this group, give it the time, affection, devotion that it desperately needs. (Archiving, starting new discussion sections, moving threads, organizing buddy reads and or book of the month? Read for reviews and so on).

When was the last time he was on? Is there any way to tell?

I would be able to take on part of moderating. Maybe there are two or three of us who could share? Which would also solve the MIA issue, particularly during the summer when people are in and out due to holidays.

message 6: by Ian (new)

Ian McClellan | 294 comments The group homepage says he was last active in November. We definitely could use at least one more mod. Someone who has some organizational skills, can occasionally take things seriously, and isn't drunk most of the time they're online. So not me.

Drunk most of the time (when) they're online? made me smile.
I am not drinking due to an injury I got back in Dec. But the pain medication and muscle relaxer that I take can make typing a coherent review-comment extremely difficult.

Oh, come on. Drunk and or pain drugged moderation is the best kind, isn't it?

LOL.
I refer to a quote that I found (here on goodreads) by Marlyn Monroe, although I seriously question if she actually said it, as it reflects my mind state while medicated.

“Ever notice how 'What the hell' is always the right answer?”

Ian McClellan | 294 comments Funny, I'm the opposite. I keep re-injuring myself at work and hate the drugs they put me on, but I do love beer.

message 11: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) We've had 16 group members take a look at this thread but only the three of us comment. I really hope we can get more group members to add their thoughts.

message 12: by Cedric (new)

Cedric Nye (cedricnye) | 86 comments I am out. I would make a terrible moderator. I have a terrible arbitrary streak that follows the mercurial nature of my whimsy.

But a good moderator would definitely be a boon to this AWESOME group.

message 13: by April (last edited Jul 04, 2013 12:32PM) (new)

April (asmohinani) | 79 comments Hi Group- I wasn't sure if anyone had sent Brandon a message, so I went ahead and did so. I'll let you know if he replies or not. I definitely agree that the group needs an active moderator. Although, I don't believe that person is me. I do enjoy this group, but unfortunately because it is suffering from lack of organization I stopped coming around. There are probably more members like me who have the same issue.
Do we want to give a deadline for Brandon to reply and for the group to contact Goodreads, as per Tammy K's suggestion?

So As I understand this, Elizabeth has been the only one to be willing to take on a moderator role for this group?
Is there anyone else willing to share the role?

This group is unorganized to the point of disabling and is (in my view) being misused by individuals promoting their own personal websites/groups taking members away from the group (threads/discussion/promotions) and under used (lack of group uniting activities).

I would suggest that we begin contacting Goodreads Monday July 8th 2013.
My personal experience with goodreads is that it can and does often take a week or better to get a response from them. It has also been my personal experience that the goodreads support staff will attempt to make as minimalistic of a response/action as possible (at times, their responses have been so minimalistic that they were utterly unhelpful).
Which is why I do not want to take on a moderator role as I am always on the verge of quitting goodreads altogether. But I digress.

It is my suggestion that whomever wishes to become the moderator(s) should be the ones who contact goodreads support.
They should include this thread in their contact.
They need to "spell out" exactly what is the issue, what steps we the group members have taken and what they wish goodreads to do, be specific guy/gals. I can not stress just how minimalistic goodreads support has been in my personal requests of them.

I still hope that other zombie group members make a comment on this thread, even if you feel that there is no need for a second moderator< please feel free to say so.

My case for a second (or third, or whatever) moderator is not just so that there's usually someone available, but also so that there are checks and balances in place. Plus the more people are involved - the more ideas flow.

Surely someone else will step forward. Don't be shy! I'm not a super-active member of this group, I just love zombies and would hate to see this group die an unorganized mess :)

message 16: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments Hey Tammy and Elizabeth and group,
I'm a quiet member of this zombie group and would hate to see it spiral into a slow death. I, too, feel it needs a second and third moderator, and hate to say that I lack neither will nor skill, but time. Perhaps there are zombie members who are also active participants in other groups we could reach out to?

Hi Netanella,
If there are any potential victims volunteers that you have in mind, please feel free to contact them and ask them to make a post on this thread stating their willingness to be Bitten, or be risen from the dead by a voodoo witch doctor, or be infested by an alien or ancient race, or forced to stand next to nuclear fall out, or be exposed to a plague, or any other zombifying process that the group members might think of during their hazing week, with no liability to any group members (and probably no legal liability to goodreads dot com) which may (or may not) include the loss of limbs, eyes, hair, teeth, skin, brain (or parts of his/her brain matter), the ability to reason BUT "might" add the possibility of "fast walking", super strength, and extreme weight loss... Then, by all means I will support them as a second or third or whatever moderator. :)
Send us Brains , a guanine pig , a outside innocent volunteer. :D Please

While I agree with many of the thoughts listed, I had been staying out the conversation because like many I am a quiet member of the group. Mainly because I agree with Tammy K that the group had turned into mostly people just pitching their own books as opposed to discussing current literature. It had gotten to the point that I rarely ventured into the group to see what was being discussed.

That being said, I would not like to see this group die, rot, and fester like the creatures we enjoying reading about. Therefore I will throw myself out there as being able to assist Elizabeth with moderating the group.

I'm not sure of the process of how we would get added and that may depend on a response from Brandon. But I'm willing to help fight off the zombie apocalypse if you need me.

Awesome Jim!

Are there any others who would be willing to step up and battle of the decay of the zombie group?

I know I have said this before, but Please take a moment to add your thoughts.

Welcome aboard, Jim! We'll get this sorted :)

message 21: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Elizabeth and Jim (and fellow zombie loving members)

Well I personally think that everyone who is gonna jump into say something about this topic has done so...if I'm wrong feel free to add your thoughts.... but either way it looks likely that the two of you are nominated by default as potential second and third moderators, that is of course if Goodreads agrees to help us out.
Have you two began the process of contacting Gr?

message 22: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 2108 comments Elizabeth and Jim - thank you for succumbing to peer-pressure....er, I mean, volunteering to help moderate! I am very grateful and will try not to be so silent on these boards any more to assist in any ways I can.

Any and all help welcome, Netanella!

An initial email has been sent to see what kind of steps need to be taken. Fingers crossed it's not too complicated. :)

message 25: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Wow! I am impressed! And I gladly admit that I was wrong! Goodreads was absolutely helpful and speedy!
thank you Elizabeth and Jim for stepping up and taking on the challenges ahead!

message 27: by Cedric (new)

Cedric Nye (cedricnye) | 86 comments Remember, Jim and Miss Elizabeth, with great power comes an even greater responsibility.

I know you are both feeling giddy with power right now, but it won't always be a big pile of candy-canes and other types of sweet things. It won't always be like marshmallows, bon-bons, ice-cream, and candied fruits. It won't be like chocolate, either.

Nope. Before you know it, all of us commoners will be knocking on your eDoor. "There are potholes on Zombie-Rot lane!" "Ian keeps picking on me!"
"Tammy K. dipped my pig-tails in the ink-well!"

Yup. That's how it REALLY is!

I am glad to know you, your Majesties. May your rule be long. Well, at least long enough to reach the trouble-makers!

Does this mean I have to add some sort of picture to my profile now?

message 29: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) I'm not going to comment on what Cedric said.
I just want to point out that he started it first!
Jim it would be nice to see a new icon image for you.
Even if you have no pictures of yourself , there are plenty of copyright free photos that you can use, modify and otherwise claim as your own:-)
I So look forward to new folders (hint hint).
Wishes to you both!

Copyright free???!!!??? Does this mean you're going to expect me to follow rules and laws and stuff. I can already see you guys are going to be a demanding group ;)

As for Tammy and Cedric, here are some boxing gloves, you go sort it out on your own, just remember to have the table set in time for dinner.

I have to say copyright free photos that you find online never know who might be reading this because of the website rule.
I'm going to wait for Elizabeth to comment on the boxing gloves idea. I might be able to get her on my side! It's never too soon to choose favorites

The nice thing about being a zombie fanatic is you can just set an opened can of beans in front of them and say, "It's practice for the apocalypse."

This is the Zombies! group. No boxing gloves allowed - shotguns and baseball bats, though...

Also, Girl Power! Female zombie slayers have got to stick together.
I mean, no sides here. Mods are impartial, right?

Moot point now- Brandon has yet to reply back to the message I sent him.
