Stephanie This is an awesome read. I would love to hear some comments. At first I thought the story was slow and rather uneventful, things were going together so smoothly it bored me a little. Then It picks up and you find your self stealing time to finish it. It's a heartwarming story with lovable characters about a young farm girl from Kentucky that runs to find her dream.

Sharon Redfern I loved this book. Gave it a 5 star review here on Goodreads. I enjoyed the whole antiques theme and her complicated relationship with her mother. When I started reading this book, I read it until I got to the end. A really great book!

Sue Seligman Just finished the book today, gave it 4 stars on Goodreads. I think her character development and scenery description were awesome. Reading this book made me want to see that part of the country. I also enjoyed the antiques theme and the complicated family relationships. Great book especially for summer!

Patrice Hoffman My thoughts on the book are that I loved it and didn't want it to end. I wrote a review on it that pretty much sums up those thoughts. Her imagery is spot on and I couldn't help but feel I could listen to the narrator talk about her life, furniture, or whatever she felt like saying the whole day.

Katz Nancy from NJ I am just beginning this book but if it's anything like her first book, Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt, this will be a great book.

Phyllis I loved this book too. It was a 5* read for me. Vivid writing. Story about family relationships, loss, hope, and fulfilling dreams. What does everybody think about the ending? I would love to discuss the ending with you. I also wrote a review on GR.

JudiAnne I loved the book even more than Saving CeeCee Honeycutt. They are both great stories with outstanding character development but I felt a connection to "Looking For Me" more. The wise little comments that were scattered through the book reminded me of my mother who was from North Carolina. My mother's vocabulary was sprinkled daily with witty thoughtful statements about life. That is how I grew up and to this day I cherish the memories. Because of my love of antiques, Teddi's love for them appealed to me because I have even brought a few of them back to their original state (not to the degree Teddi did) and even though I didn't have conversations with them like Teddi did I have often imagined where they come from, who sat or laid on them and what kind of conversations would they be able to repeat if they could talk. Crazy, huh? My husband I have friends in Charleston that we visit and it's every bit as beautiful and magical as described in the book. It is a lovely place to visit if anyone should get the chance. I wrote a review and gave the book four stars instead of five because I was disappointed that Teddi's brothers character was not as developed as the other character. I would have liked to have gotten to know him better.

Judi,
I like your thoughts on the book. It doesn't remind of things in my life like it does for you but even so I felt like I have a good description of what it is like to live in Charleston and what it is like to be an antiques dealer.

Darlene I also loved this book!!!! I don't know a thing about antiques but Ms Hoffman made me feel like I did. I am a girl from Kentucky and I dearly love Charleston, though I've never lived there, I have visited. This book just tugged at my heart from the beginning and I didn't want to put it down!!! Thank you Beth Hoffman for 2 truly wonderful books and looking forward to more!!!!

Carmela I did not want the book to end. Teddi's character came alive and it felt like she was a friend by the way her story was shared. I look forward to Beth Hoffman's next book.

Nancy I thought this was the best book I've read all summer.
I also liked the antiques and Charleston connection. I hope the author writes another book soon.

Nancy, I'm so glad you liked it. Did you read Saving CeeCee Honeycutt? I thought it was adorable. I listened to it on audio and I loved the accents! She has written several other books too, I think.

Nancy, did you know that this is only her second book?? I think she's amazing!!!

Sonja Cannell This was an incredible read, and I definitely will recommend it to others! It's heart warming and a feel good read! Her other book, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt was also a great read!

Nancy No, I didn't really know that. I did read her first book, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, which I also enjoyed a great deal.

sabrina Just finished this highly anticipated book that I could not wait to come out, last night :) Saving CeeCee is one of my favorite books. Those characters still go through my mind at times. With that said I had high hopes for her second book. I love her Southern settings. Being from SC it makes me feel like I'm home a little. Teddi and all the characters did not disappoint me. An emotional story with times of humor made me want to meet Josh, hang out with Albert, walk the streets of Charleston again and visit her antiques shop. Was not disappointed and now I will highly anticipate her 3rd novel .

Susan I loved Looking for Me, it was sent to me by the author. I loved the character study, and the the description of Charleston. I live about two hours away and loved the description of the homes, and Charleston. I could picture it.

That said, if you never read Cee, Cee you need to read it two. They are both very different stories, and loveable characters. I wrote my thoughts on my book blog if you would like to read, at http://susanslitearycafe.blogspot.com. Most likely it was posted in June.

Marie I really enjoyed the book until the end. The part about her brother was a stretch and very improbable. Her brother would send her a strand of hair to tell he he wasn't alone? A little disappointing.

Pat I really did enjoy "Looking For Me". I realize Beth Hoffman's characters are fiction but they are written in such a way that I do find them part of me while I'm reading.

However- I totally agree where Marie said she she was disappointed. But---I think the strand of hair was pretty ingenious. That would be very much like what (I think) Josh would have done. I was so disappointed that I actually did write Beth Hoffman and I said I would like to know more about Josh...what made him leave? How did he live? How did he survive? He must have had some money or something that he could have traded with for basics, clothes, boots, some basic creature comforts....Thermal underwear for crying out loud! What did he eat? We know he likely did not kill animals for food, or would he? But if the person saw someone all in black, how did Josh get a hold of basics? How did he take care of himself if he had been sick? Where did he live? I felt like I needed to know more. Basically I am a curious, perhaps even nosy, creature. I admit it. Did anyone else wonder? And aren't you curious about the person who he is with? I guess I have to put my own imagination to work.

I realize the characters are fiction but I love Beth Hoffman's books because they appeal to heartwarming and feeling good experiences. The tale of how Teddi started the interest in furniture- excellent. CeeCee Hunnycutt, I loved that story too. I enjoy Beth's Books.

One last thing, at the end of the book, how old was Eddie the dog? Did he have an extraordinarily very-very long life??? Haha. I told you I was nosy....

Pat ps. I still gave it 5 stars. :)

Phyllis I gave this book 5 *. I really enjoyed it.

Carmela This was a great read. I love the writing style and character development of Beth Hoffman. I gave it five stars and I do not give five stars too often.

message 23: by Pat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Pat Wasn't anyone bothered by "what ever happened to Josh"?

Linda I wondered plenty about Josh. I wondered how long the things in the container could last before disintegrating. Josh probably put the stuff in the container and wrote Teddi's name on it, but did someone else find it and put it in the barn? He may or may not have been alive at the time. Finally, decided it was meant to be left hanging, an enigma as Josh was himself.

Nancy Loved this book! I couldn't put it down!

Stasha Why does she throw the arrowhead into the sea at the end? Is she hiding potential evidence? Is she content to believe he is alive and happy? What do you think?

Having had difficulties in my own life, I found this one a bit harder to read as the truth was on the page. Some people just don't want to be found.

Sue Henshaw Read it as an ebook and have ordered a hard copy to spread around

message 28: by Ruth (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ruth I read this book with low expectations and came out so amazed! Like Stella said, just because someone is a simple country person does not mean they can't think deep. This book is just like that. I'm sure that if we all met these characters in real life we would not think that their inner lives were so complex. Beth Hoffman did a great job of showing us this complexity without ever falling into stereotypes or cliches.

Eileen Goudge Beth Hoffman's writing is so lush, I would love anything she's written. I especially loved this book. It captures the spirit of Teddi and portrays her journey with heart and soul. Also love the way she brings the South alive.

Stephanie I agree Eileen, her writing brought the south so alive and I just want to be there! She's one of my favorite writers.
