Joe Hempel (joehempel) | 19 comments Award winning designer Farah Evers stops by my blog to talk about Good Covers vs Good Images, and why just because it looks good, doesn't make it functional!

Steelwhisper | 118 comments Sorry, this is actually close to being a skin game.

Steelwhisper | 118 comments The examples are self-evident, and manipulated. It's no conclusive juxtaposition, and all she does is essentially advertise her own services. For an article that's supposed to pull me as an author into reading it, and potentially drawing some benefit from this is at the zero effect level. Which means the author of this got me to read it just so she can pander her own name. Dupery.

Joe Hempel (joehempel) | 19 comments Hmm....I disagree. While the work is hers, she gives you some good pointers in creating a good cover for doing it yourself. Of course she's going to point to her work, who wouldn't. I really don't think you read or paid much attention to what was said to be honest.

Steelwhisper | 118 comments LOL. I read it alright. Or I wouldn't have posted here.

EDIT:

And for some interesting and indepth information on covers, why not try Remittance Girl's blog?

http://remittancegirl.com/blogpost/co...

There are more posts yet on the topic of covers on that blog, all way more helpful.

Joe Hempel (joehempel) | 19 comments I went to those blogs, and she has good points, all described in the post I talked about.

In the second post she goes into what she likes regarding metaphor in images, not what technically makes a good cover, which again, is what my guest blogger talked about

Both posts do what they set out to do. You prefer one over the other, that doesn't mean it's a bad post.

I agree. Graphic design is a skill to be learnt like many other skills. A great cover intrigues, and gets you to open the book and take a look inside. A great bit of artwork just gets you to like the artwork. It's wonderful when the two combine.

Steelwhisper | 118 comments I can understand your stance, she is on your blog.

Peggy Holloway | 393 comments I have never understood the big deal about covers. Out of the thousands of books I have read, I couldn't tell you what one of the covers looked like. I would never buy a book based on the cover, especially an e-book.

Joe Hempel (joehempel) | 19 comments I disagree with that. If an Indy author doesn't put time into the cover, what's that say about the work? It could be great, but I won't chance my time on a new author. Call me crazy. I remember covers

R.A. White (rawhite) | 361 comments Most people do judge books by their covers. It's a fact. Thanks for posting. I thought she offered useful insights and I didn't feel even slightly pressured to buy from her, though if I had the money I might look into it, because it's nice work.
