Was anyone else disappointed in the ending?

I enjoyed reading this book until I got to the ending. It was one of the most ridiculous endings I have read in quite some time. I was truly disappointed after following such a good plot.

Yes good book but ending was silly..

Was it the ending or will there be a follow on story? Who was the father of the baby, the dead man or the live one?

I was so excited to read this book because her other two books were fantastic! I bought it the day it was released, which I rarely do, and was so disappointed!!!!

The ending definitely disappointed me but at the same time if a writer used that type of toxic relationship as the driving force... it isn't uncommon for the victim(s) to not walk from what they are used to. Agree with Wanda.

The ending was kind of lame but I think it was the way things really happen often in life. For whatever reasons people get stuck and just settle in. They were both manipulative and part of the reason they stayed together was because they enjoyed their game. They fed off of each other's sickness because they were really both nuts.

I agree, the ending seemed a bit lackluster.

the ending to me was kinda satisfying 'cause i really didn't want anything awful happens to both Amy and Nick.

I'm with you all - the book was so engrossing, and after all that had happened the ending just felt anti-climatic.
I would rather have seen the book close with a small clue left around, something that Amy had overlooked and may or not be her ruin.

I hated the ending, and was very disappointed after reading such a gripping story. I don't know what the author was thinking.

I enjoyed the book too. Kept me from doing the things around the house that I'm suppose to do and then that ending killed me. What?! Unexpected. I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me.

I was disappointed in the ending.

Good book, bad ending. I was so disappointed that I wanted to throw the book across the room! What nonsense !

I thought it was a believable ending, though not the most interesting.

Anybody who didn't like the ending didn't get it. It wasn't a happy ending, mushy and resolvey-poo. Yikes. And those who thought they deserved each other, well that's flimsy (and if you believed that, no wonder you were disappointed — but still, you didn't get it). They were obligated by their shenanigans to BE together, to appease the authorities. They would be under a hell of a lot of suspicion if they broke up now. Like a commenter said way above, they were stuck with each other. In hell, like No Exit.

Yes, I was disappointed, too. I wanted Amy to get arrested and exposed for all the evil things she did. But then when Nick took her back I figured they deserved each other. I'd kind of like a sequel to see what else these two sick people do to each other.

The ending scared me more than anything else. I found it believable

I failed to see what all the hype was about this book. I struggled through it and never really enjoyed any part of it.

I agree that the ending was anti-climactic. Amy's a karma Houdini if there ever was one. I prefer stories where people get their just desserts.

I really enjoyed the author's writing style and tight character development. But I must say I was totally depressed when I finished. The couple does indeed deserve one another! Perhaps Ms. Flynn attained her goal by generating so much angst in the reader(s).

I'm in the minority. I liked the ending. It left me feeling deflated, but I found it to be a likely ending in a real life situation. I could see people just accepting their lot and getting on with it like these characters did. She got what she wanted, a 'loving' and compliant husband, and he got a wife and a baby.

Yes, I was very disappointed in the ending of this book

I never made it to the end. A third of the way through I decided I didn't care if Amy was dead or alive and thought Nick was a damned fool to care as well. I thought their shenanigans were infantile at best.

Overall, I thought this book was really well-written, but the further I got from it, the less I liked it. I really didn't care for either main character. As a result, I now think the ending of the book was perfect. They both got what they deserved, which was to be stuck with each other.

Allows for a sequel to be written I suppose.

Yes, the ending was very disappointing. You know, it had been quite a ride for me on this book because I didn't like it as much as I would like in the beginning, then I started to feel the twists and was so looking forward to the end, and it was miserable. I almost threw the book away, because I couldn't believe such ending! And I really did not understand the good ratings on this book at all. Just my opinion :)

You must have read a different book from me. "Boring"? "Rushed through?" "Predictable"? This book was scarier than "Rosemary's Baby" and although Flynn ended it, it certainly isn't over. I LOVED the ending, even as I sat there gaping. The possibilities with these two are just endless.

They deserved each other in the end however the poor child doesn't deserve these parents! The book didn't hold my attention & I did get irritated with the story line.Turns out love can hold people together in strength yet wrong love can imprison and take captives of people!!!
I have Dark Places to read & not looking forward to it

I agree the ending was underwhelming. Couldn't agree more, in fact. I loved the book up until the last chapter and the whole time I worried it would have a disappointing ending... and it did.

On another note, I am so surprised that anyone can actually compare Nick and Amy and suggest that they are somehow equally bad and deserve each other. Nick is a jerk and a cheat. In what world is that comparable to being an evil, psychotic murderess? Maybe if Nick had killed his mistress...

didn't like the ending. smelled misogynistic - why does Nick get the last word??

I gave to agree with many of you. That was a very disappointing ending to such an unusual story. Great twists and turns only to end in what feels like a let down. I was hoping for more.
