Hmm. My wife enjoys her mysteries. Wonder if she'd like this. (Just downloaded the Kindle edition. I'll let her decide for herself.) :)

I am currently reading Jhegaala, to be followed by the final book in the Nicholas Flamel series, The Enchantress. After that I think I'll go out of genre. We'll see.

I'm currently reading Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge. It's good so far, not entirely what I expected. Other books I'll be getting to this month:

I'm re-reading Guy Gavriel Kay's Sarantine Mosaic duology - finished Sailing to Sarantium a few days ago and am on to the sequel Lord of Emperors. It's been a long time since I read them, since I had lent them to a friend that I've since lost touch with...just recently picked up a used set to replace my lost copies so I could re-read again! They're as good as I remember :)

Well I am still working through Deadhouse Gates. Its good, so far better than it's predecessor Gardens of the Moon.
This one has a bit more straight forward plot.

I finished my Sarantine Mosaic re-read (yup, still as good as I remembered it) and am on to a nonfiction library book that just came in, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. I'm more of an extrovert with a few introverted tendencies, but I'm married to an introvert and it seemed like an interesting topic.

Shel, I heard the author interviewed on public radio relatively recently--don't recall which show. The book sounded interesting--drawing a distinction between being shy and being introverted.

Just finished Scalzi's The Human Division. Now working on Niven's latest - The Goliath Stone. And hope to get to Nebula winner 2312 later in the month.
But also want to get in a classic from pre-1990, so may be a re-read of Ringworld or Hal Clement's Mission Of Gravilty.

Yesterday I read I Am Legend in one sitting while my son napped. Vampires before they were sexy and sparkly. Great story (and, from what I understand, barely tangentially related to the recent Will Smith movie version, which I haven't seen).

Not sure what I'm going to pick up next fiction-wise, I'll see what appeals when I next sit down to read.

It isn't. I follow Brust's blog and he's technically finished (as in 'wrote the book' and sent to first read editor) but expecting major re-writes.

The next book due out from Brust is actually not a Vlad book. It's a collaboration with Skyler White called The Incrementalists, due out in late September.

Tiassa is a lot of fun, but I felt it was a bit too much of an "insider" book for Vlad fans. I can't wait for Hawk.

Kathi, have you read the Khaavren Romances (The Phoenix Guards, etc)? If not, you might want to read them first, since there's some backstory there that will make Tiassa a bit more enjoyable, IMHO. Just be aware that they're VERY silly :)

Too late... started and finished Tiassa yesterday. I have not read the Khaavren Romances yet, although I have them on my shelf. If they are written in the same style as the section of this book called "Special Tasks", I may have to take them in small doses. But I can see where they will tie in.

While it may have been an "insider" book, as Stefan said, I still really enjoyed it. 9.5/10

And now I can finally go back to the Jhereg discussion and read the thread that contain whole series spoilers. Color me happy!

I started a new series a couple days ago--new to me, I mean. A Shadow on the Glass is the name of the book. The 4-book series is The View from the Mirror. It appears he has written two more series in this same world, so if I like this quartet, I have more to look forward to! Edited to add that many of his books appear to be only published in AU and UK... might have to buy the ebooks since the paperbacks appear pretty pricey!

I read Mistborn: The Final Empire a few days ago, just finished The Well of Ascension and will start The Hero of Ages next; I wasn't super-impressed with the writing in Sanderson's debut Elantris but he's certainly improved since then - I couldn't put it down and finished a 750-page book in 2 days! (hooray for summer vacation)!

The Space Merchants - read this again and found it just as good
Declare - i couldnt get into this book, im sure its too high brow for me.
Sign of the Unicorn - really enjoying this series and this was another good book.
Pandora's Star - currently this brick of a book. Its good, loads going on but its good so far.

Helen, the first quartet of The Three Worlds Sequence (The View from the Mirror, which starts with A Shadow on the Glass) is available in the US and those are the 4 books I have. It's the later series that have apparently not been published in the US (The Well of Echoes Quartet and the Song of Tears Trilogy). He also may write a final book(s) called Fate of the Children.

Irvine has another series called The Tainted Realm and I believe that is available in the US.

Basically is old school espionage with some fantastical elements. If you dig the Le Carre spy stuff you will like this

I just started Scourge of the Betrayer late last night. I didn't really intend to. I was scanning through books reading a few pages here and there to see what I was in the mood for. I opened this one and next thing I knew it was 1am and I was almost a third of the way in. :)

Tore through The Hero of Ages in a couple of days and wow. OK, I get it now. LOVED the whole trilogy.

Next up is something completely different, because I'd be afraid any other fantasy epic would suffer by comparison if read back-to-back. About to pick up V for Vendetta.

Now that I'm sort of unpacked from moving, I'm back to The Golden Fool (yay!) and then on to Cold Steel (more yay!).

I'm also reading up on Montessori methodology for my toddler and started reading Teach Me to Do It Myself and How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way. Both are good so far.

I find this so annoying. It's like when we were reading the Fortress series. I bought 1, 2, 4 and 5 on kindle but 3 wasn't available in that format.
