What is everyone reading this week? I just finished Cold Shot
and it was very good! It reminded me of why I love reading romantic suspense novels!

This week I'm reading Roseanna M. White's The Number of Love. I LOVE her books, she captures the Great War and WWII so perfectly.

And I started reading Rachel Kovaciny's Doughnuts and Dancing which is a fairytale retelling in a western setting.

Hi Carissa! I have The Number of Love in my Kindle! I loved the 3rd book in that series, and you're right, she captures the time period so well!
Doughnuts and Dancing looks cute! I'll check it out. Thanks!

Aw thanks so much Beverly! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Jennifer, I LOVE Terri Reed! I haven't read that one yet, though.

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all been reading! I’m sorry I haven’t been around on Goodreads because of my IBS, but I’ve still been doing a lot of reading!
I’ve found myself reading a lot of fantasy/speculative fiction Light Novels (Japanese fantasy and speculative fiction novels) translated into English.
The genres of Light Novels are extremely diverse and often cross genres, but a popular trope is “isekai” which is a modern character being reincarnated or transmigrated to another (usually fantasy) world.
They tend to be humorous, although there are many that are more serious fantasy like American fantasy novels. Some have cussing in them, but that’s usually the discretion of the translator since Japanese doesn’t really have cuss words like English.
My favorite series right now is Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 1 Volume 1. The character is a bookworm who died in modern Japan and was reincarnated into another world with magic but no books, so she resolves to “create” printing and libraries, but there’s a lot she needs to learn about the world, and later books have really interesting court intrigues that she gets caught up in.
The first book is good, but the character is still a bit shellshocked by what happened to her and sometimes is a bit childish, and she doesn’t really start to grow until book 2 in the series, and from then on I was completely hooked! I just finished the latest book in the series, Ascendance of a Bookworm: (light novel) Part 4 Volume 8, and things are getting so interesting!
What have you all been reading lately?

Oooh her writing is beautiful. I bet her memoirs are great!

I realized I haven’t read poetry in a while. I should do that. I think it makes my writing better.
What has everyone been reading lately? I’ve been reading mostly nonfiction for some reason. Right now I’m re-reading Elana Johnson’s Writing and Marketing Systems. I love her writing—she has such a fun and breezy author voice and it’s fun to read.
I’ve also been reading the Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 1 Volume 1 series. The latest chapters are posted on j-novel.club as they’re translated and edited, before the books are published, so I keep up with that and enjoy a chapter each Monday afternoon. :) It’s by far my favorite fantasy series right now.

Happy New Year everybody!
I finished reading Talk of the Town by Joan Smith, a traditional Regency Romance. I originally read it in paperback when it was first published, but most of the author’s books are now out on ebook, so I bought it and re-read it (since I didn’t remember what happened in the book AT ALL). I really liked it! It’s not a Christian book, but it’s clean and a really funny Regency romance novel.

There are four authors in this collection: Pepper Basham, Cara Putman, Teresa Tysinger, and Janine Rosche. My favorite is Pepper Basham's story, but I've enjoyed the others, too :) I still need to read the last story.
Edited to add that they are now sold as separate novellas:
The Christmas Clue to Finding You by Pepper Basham
Silver Bell Secrets by Cara Putman
An Unscripted Christmas by Teresa Tysinger
Dreams in Toyland by Janine Rosche

There are 13 seasons so far, and they have been renewed for at least 2 more seasons. I want to read the 3 memoirs that inspired the series.

I haven’t had enough time to watch series these days. I originally started watching it because Miranda Hart was on it for a few seasons. I always wanted to get back to it … someday!
