Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) Hi everyone :) How''s your summer going?

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
We had post-operation company for the last two summers so it's a breath of fresh air to be free from that this year.

It's going great, how about you?

message 4: by AngryGreyCat (new)

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) It has been so rainy/thunderstormy here that it is hard to get things done - yardwork/garden wise. It has rained or thunderstormed every day for about 7 days now. I ended up mowing in the rain this afternoon because I couldn't let it go anymore the grass is growing so fast.

Good thing is that it is usually clear in the morning and I have been able to go out and run each morning, dropping some weight. I also have some summer work lined up so I should be making some extra cash.

How about everyone else?

message 5: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments Running at five in the morning because of the heat wave. Plus, still trying to get moving in stuff done. I think the weeds are growing faster than I can dispatch them.

message 6: by AngryGreyCat (last edited Jun 30, 2013 08:17PM) (new)

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) We are not super hot but it is still best to run as early as possible. I run around 6 and it is cool enough then.

message 7: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments it is currently 8:30 and 96degrees. Two more days and of this then a cooling trend.

message 8: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments we caught a break tho, it was supposed to be 106, is only 102 those three days. heck, over 100 is hot no matter what.

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
I often wonder how people can live in that heat. It has to be the beauty of the desert...or is it? I've been to 115 (in Egypt) before and it was unpleasant at best. However, it was 110 here last year when we had the drought but it was manageable. The low humidity rocked!

message 10: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments the desert is beautiful. however I'm now in Washington state. it gets this warm, but it seems a little early. my friends in Arizona are getting temps higher than usual as well.

message 11: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
Wow. That's warm for Washington isn't it? I lived in Tacoma for a year but all it did was rain. :) Good thing I love the rain.

message 12: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments SE quadrant is desert and much drier than Tacoma. but still too warm. they are in the nineties this week.

message 13: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments they as in Tacoma Seattle.

message 14: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) My summer has been quite the vacation. I've been either relaxing at home, reading, going to the beach, or eating ice cream. I'm hoping to travel before I have to go back to school in September.

message 15: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
That does sound like a great vacay. Wish we had a beach here!

message 16: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) Where are you from that you don't have a beach?

message 17: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
Midwest...unless you want to count the rivers, we don't have a good beach. :)

message 18: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) Ahhh, I see. Lol. Have you always lived there? Or did you move there?

message 19: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
I've lived in 8 states because my husband served in the military for 14 years. We chose to come back to our home state. It has a low cost of living and the climate suits us.

message 20: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) That's a good way to settle :) I'd love to move out of my home state. I've been living here for 17 years. I need to explore.

message 21: by AngryGreyCat (last edited Jul 04, 2013 03:56PM) (new)

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) I live in NJ currently and have been here for more years than I want to think about. Before that i lived all over the world because my dad was in the service and we moved around a lot. The plan was for me to let my daughter graduate HS next year and then finally get out, but with how the housing market is I don't think I can get rid of the house....sigh..depressing thinking about being stuck here for the long haul.

I live in NJ and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I've spent 9 months in Texas and that was pretty bad.

That is how I ended up in NJ, my Dad retired out of McGuire AFB when I was in HS and so I ended up going to college in NJ, due to financial aid. Then I met my ex, had kids and here I still am.

message 25: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments navy brat. still on the move after all these years

message 26: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
It is a challenge to stop that lifestyle. We've been in one place now for almost 4 years. We've gotten the itch to move on several times but the kids squashed that idea. They've finally had the same friends for a length of time and they won't let us forget that.

I am happy here but I am wondering what it would be like to live in Utah. I drove through it once 18 years ago and I've never stopped thinking about it.

message 27: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments At 61 and after 9 years of literally living on wheels i have chosen a place that is "home" and even if i continue to wander, when it is time to go that is where i will go and pay rent on it year round. That is of course unless my family leaves here and then i will likely find somewhere else unless i become thoroughly entrenched and don't want to move.

the irony is that i expected this particular phase of constant moving to end after 5 years due to infirmity. when it didn't i just kind of "floated" until forced to come up with a plan B. If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?

message 28: by AngryGreyCat (new)

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) Basically I stopped moving because my ex was from N. When we first got married I tried to convince him to move but he had lived here all his life and couldn't conceive of it. I should have realized then that we weren't compatible ;0.

It is hard to get used to staying in one place. I would like to move down south somewhere. I've seen some great places in Alabama, Louisiana, or Mississippi, although I also loved the west coast when I was out there - Washington State and Oregon. Oh, well.

My husband got a job for contract work that would take us all over the country. I homeschooled andplanned to to get an rv so we could travel with him. Unfortunately a better job offer came that was stationary. We moved to Maryland. It was the worse decision we made. I did not enjoy the east coast at all.

We hope to float some more when the kids are off on their own.

message 30: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments i also did not care for the east coast nor the south. A big part of that was climate.

I lived in Huntsville, AL and would recommend it highly. I lived in Washington State and although I loved it, Oregon would have been my first choice. I can't speak to anything other than the coast though. The Oregon coast is so amazing.

It's a challenge to make that first step. You'll do it if it's right for you. :)

message 32: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) Whoa. Am I the only one without a great background history here? Geez. I've lived here all my life.

message 33: by Iamabibliophile (new)

Iamabibliophile | 169 comments Mod
No worries. I didn't make any history until after college and marriage. You have time. :)

message 34: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) :) I hope so. Hopefully it'll be just as great. What does everyone work as? Or what are you working towards becoming?

message 35: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments I am working toward being contentedly retired. Finding that niche where i belong and usefully using the hours of my days. (But then it sounds like i am significantly older than most of you.)

message 36: by Jaedlyn (new)

Jaedlyn ✨ (lepoet_femme) Age is nothing but a number to me. I want to become a poet, open my own dance studio for the community to keep kids off the streets and publish at least one book.

message 37: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4 comments I got my first degree is psychology but found I couldn't make a living off of it without a doctorate so I started working at a nursing school which has no inspired me to become a nurse! I have one more pre- req for that and then a year on a wait list for the clinical portion! In the meantime I am a quilter starting up my own Etsy page and hoping to make some money for school there too!

message 38: by Baqash (new)

Baqash | 106 comments i am also a quilter. my current project is a throw sized quilt for each of my 7 grands. i would like to get that project done before the greats start arriving

message 39: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4 comments That's a lot of projects! I'm in the middle of a queen size rag quilt using the Joel Dewberry Aviary 2 line, it's for me BC I feel in love with the line :) some baby quilts for others are on the table next! It's a fun summer! Good luck with your quilts!!

I went to school to become a zoologist. I became a mom and domestic goddess instead, although it's similar to working at a zoo. ;)

I am now working on becoming a Master Naturalist.

I own a huge fabric stash and several quilt tops but not a single finished quilt. Quilter fail.

message 43: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4 comments I have that same problem! That's why I love rag quilts BC you get to quilt each piece so it's a lot easier than a huge quilt on my tiny machine!

I can't believe it. I am turning 40 next week. Where have the last 20 years gone?

message 45: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. Congratulations! I had a birthday last week--59 years old this year. Thankfully, it wasn't that painful milestone birthday that's coming up next summer. I can wait a bit for that one!

I turned 60 in June and it has been great. I am now the youngest in my running category and have won 7 medals in 9 competitions since I had that milestone!

Good grief. I feel so behind. My kiddos started school last week so maybe I'll finally get some reading in. I am organizing the house and hanging art/decorating. It's only been 4 years since I moved in. I guess it's time. :D Now...on to the books!
