There are a couple of people who would like to get a discussion started on this book if anyone is interested. Feel free to chime in at any time.

GeneralTHC I saw a documentary on HBO called Paradise Lost about this recently that was really good. I have this book. I can't believe I haven't read it. I bet it's a really good read.

It sounds really interesting to me. I followed it on the news for a while.

Dustin Oh my gosh, I literally just read the synopsis of Devil's Knot, and I am appalled by this monumental miscarriage of justice.. I simply MUST read this book someday! Thank you so much sharing!!

message 5: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I read this book a long time ago and also seen all 3 HBO documentries. For those who don't know Damien, Jason and Jessie are all out if prison. I highly recommend Damien Echol's new book "Life After Death". Also the newest documentry "West of Memphis" will hit dvd in August. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

message 6: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I saw 2 documentaries on this case and was absolutely floored.

message 7: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments These kids were summarily railroaded because of the music they listened to. I was a long haired metal head in high school and shudder to think how people are guilty until proven innocent in this country, especially if you do not fit the mold society has established as "normal." What a fallacy.

message 8: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC When would you be open to reading this, Cindy?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

How would around the 25th or so be Chuck?

message 10: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Sounds great!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Wonder if I can get this one on Kindle?

message 12: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Cindy wrote: "Wonder if I can get this one on Kindle?"

Yeah, you can.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Chuck. Got it.

Awesome, can't wait!

message 15: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard Is this the book about the three boys who were accused of murder, in part, because they dressed in goth and listened to heavy metal?

message 16: by Dustin (new)

Dustin James wrote: "I saw a documentary on these guys on a true crime show. It blew me away"

I haven't seen the documentary, James, but the books' synopsis blew me away, too!:)

GeneralTHC Rick wrote: "Is this the book about the three boys who were accused of murder, in part, because they dressed in goth and listened to heavy metal?"

Yep, that's it.

GeneralTHC Cindy wrote: "How would around the 25th or so be Chuck?"

Cindy, have you started this yet? If not, can we postpone it?

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Starting this today Chuck. Sorry, I had a little detour with my health.

message 20: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Rick, that is right. It hit home for me because I always enjoyed heavy metal and know first hand how that fact alone can cause people to single one out as a troublemaker. I never saw the third documentary, but in the second they dropped quite a bombshell about another suspect whom I thought was guilty all along. I need to get this book.

GeneralTHC Cindy wrote: "Starting this today Chuck. Sorry, I had a little detour with my health."

Okay, that's fine. I was wanting to put it off for a bit, but that's cool; I really do want to read it. I think I'm about to have to go in two-novels-a-day mode. haha

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

If you want to put it off for a bit, that's fine with me Chuck. Just let me know when.

message 23: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Yeah, let's just put it on the back burner for now, if you don't mind. I just feel like my reading is all helter-skelter right now and I would like to tidy it up a bit first, if that makes any sense.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Truthfully, my reading is the same right now. I figure if we give it a week or so, I should be caught up. Fingers crossed.

I vaguely remember this, I think I'll have to check it out too. Might as well add to my ever growing reading list:) I think I'll see if Netflix has any of these documentaries streaming. The more I'm hearing about it, the more interesting it sounds.

If I'm not mistaken, the first one was called Paradise Lost. It is a must see. It really blew my mind. The soundtrack by Metallica was hauntingly fitting, too.

message 28: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I thought it was pretty kick ass all the celebs that came forward to support these kids.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Chuck wrote: "I thought it was pretty kick ass all the celebs that came forward to support these kids."

Yeah. They did get some high-profile backup.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG! I am literally sick to my stomach. I thought this was another case involving rape of some party girls by basketball players. I remember hearing about this case, but it is so disturbing to read the book. And I've only just started it. I do hope the author stays impartial throughout his "investigation" and reports facts supported by evidence versus hearsay. This will be one I will have trouble putting down.

Do you have a time frame in mind for this one, Cindy?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Not really. What did you have in mind Chuck? It is extremely interesting AND disgusting from the very beginning.

message 33: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Cindy wrote: "Not really. What did you have in mind Chuck? It is extremely interesting AND disgusting from the very beginning."

Yep. This seems like it's going to be pretty good.

I didn't really have anything in mind, I was just trying to square every thing away--it never seems to work though, lol. I guess we probably should just read it at whatever pace is comfortable for each of us and maybe mark spoilers by the chapter they're in?

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, sounds good to me. I will most likely place this one as a priority read out of the ones I'm currently reading. Several of the others are month-long reads.

message 35: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I wish I could find this book. I have looked around, but it is one I can't afford right now. Too bad. I have seen the documentary's though. I can say with extreme confidence that your minds will be completely blown by this story. It is VERY disturbing.

No doubt Adam on the disturbing part. One of the first things I read was regarding (view spoiler)

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I got mine on Kindle, but I think it was kinda pricey if I remember right. Like about 10 bucks.

message 38: by GeneralTHC (last edited Aug 03, 2013 10:06PM) (new)

GeneralTHC I'm reading about the discovery right now: (view spoiler)

message 39: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I'm on chapter 1-Enter Satan: (view spoiler)

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Plan on reading some more of this when we get home later today Chuck.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Chuck wrote: "I'm on chapter 1-Enter Satan: [spoilers removed]"

Yes Chuck, I found that quite disturbing. Don't know what to think of it exactly. Makes you wonder what was on the cop's mind at the time. Seems like he had already drawn some of his own conclusions.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Chapter 2 was shocking to say the least. I thought that (view spoiler)

message 43: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Hey Cindy, how far have you gotten? I haven't read today.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm just on Chapter 3 Chuck.

message 45: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 05, 2013 01:30PM) (new)

I just don't understand WHY? Chapter 5 (view spoiler). I know this was mentioned in a previous chapter and I suspect that it could be tied in with the (view spoiler), but it just don't make sense why they would do this.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Damien is an interesting name for this one particular boy of interest.

message 47: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I waiting a few days to really get going on this because I plan on getting the audiobook then.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, sounds good to me. You are a lot faster than me anyway. I'm really liking it so far Chuck. Just disturbing.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Next book in line to finish before starting another! I'm excited! Tomorrow when I come home from work it is on.

message 50: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Good deal!
