Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I am 45 minutes into West Of Memphis and so far it has mainly been a compressed version of the first two documentaries. Glad to see you guys are getting around to reading this. I don't have or I'd join in. I will likely participate anyway.

I am still reading this book and have to put it down quite frequently. It infuriates me to read about all the unprofessionalism and incompetence on the part of the police department. Can we say PREJUDICE and BIAS?

GeneralTHC Awesome Cindy. I haven't forgot about this one. How far are you?

My Kindle app is showing 37% or page 177/417 Chuck.

GeneralTHC I love the analogy the author makes likening the prosecution of these guys to the Salem witch trials.

message 56: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC The prosecution’s side says anyone that examines the evidence will come to the same conclusion they did. The author decided to do just that, as well as write a book about it. That’s pretty bad ass, I think. Talk about calling someone’s bluff.

message 57: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC The cop that responded to the initial call totally blew it. She migt have been in time to save them, or at least catch the killer, but she quit investigating there because the mosquitoes bothered her. I guess we’ll never know.

GeneralTHC Also, it’s a shame the cops didn’t even as much as look, much less collect blood samples, when the manager reported that a “mentally disoriented” man went in that women’s restroom and smeared blood on the walls. No way that would happen today without blood samples being collected, or so I would like to think.

I think this was a very accurate analogy Chuck. Loved it!

I was really perplexed by this Chuck. You would think most police departments would send someone over immediately if a restaurant manager called and said there was blood everywhere in the bathroom.

I would like to read up on this a little more. The appeals, transcripts, etc. Very interesting and extremely sad case.

message 62: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC You know Damien Echols has a book out now called Life After Death by Damien Echols .

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

I might just have to get that one. Thanks Chuck!

message 64: by Scott (new)

Scott Cindy...I saw the documentary for this...it stayed with me for days.

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

I can only imagine Scott. Just think if they would have put that boy to death.

I just checked with my library and they have this book Chuck. I put it on reserve. Should only take 3-4 days to get it.

Addy | 379 comments Oh! This is going to be a movie soon! May have to read the book.

message 68: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I never did finish this. I didn't get very far either. If you decide to read it maybe we can buddy read it.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

I have it checked out from the library right now, but I need a few days to catch up on the two I'm currently reading. If you guys want to read it, could we start maybe Monday 21st? Life After Death

message 70: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Yeah. Maybe in a couple of months. Don't have any extra to spend on books right now unless I can get it from library or borrow it.

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, just give me a little notice and I will check it out again from the library.

message 72: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Which book are we talking about?

message 74: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Oh ok. I was talking about Devils Knot. Sorry Cindy. I haven't read either unfortunately. Would you recommend Devils Knott though?

Yes, definitely! It will probably evoke a lot of strong emotions if you're anything like me.

I read a little bit of LAD the other day. I could probably tear through it pretty quick, but I really want to read THE DEVIL'S KNOT first.

message 77: by Addy (new)

Addy | 379 comments Hmm. I've got alot going on. Maybe at the end of November I can see if I can borrow it.

message 78: by [deleted user] (new)

It did take me a while to read. There was a lot of talk about depositions, mental evals, and the sort. It took me a little while to piece all of it together. Let me know when you guys finish reading Devil's Knot and I will check out LAD at the library again.
