hmmm... I'm not far enough into the book yet to decide if the rules are necessary but I am thinking that Aislinn's grandma might have some prejudice against fairies for some reason - something's happened in the past that I don't know about yet I'm sure. :)

Adrienne 1. What do u think of the three rules? Necessary or Unnecessary? i don't know::i'm a typical Librian::i need balance::there fore i'm going to have t osit on the fence::too many arguments for the rules::too many for not following them::
2. What do u think of the faeries? i loved the faeries::i think thats b/c they were free spirited::slightly wild and magical::
3. Are the Faeries what u thought they would be like? strange but i had no preconceived ideas about what they would be like:: i thought the faeries were wonderfully::
4. Who would u pick to be Summer Queen?
5. what do u think of the Winter Queen? i couldn't understand why she was so horrible to Keenan::or why she killed his father (presumably the original Summer King)::i may have missed something b/c i do tend to read very fast::i'm hoping that this may be explained in a lter book::

1. What do I think of the rules.

*** SPOILERS ***

I think that the rules were put in place after Aislinn's mom was courted by Keenan as a knee-jerk reaction that obviously didn't work. There must be something about girls who can see fairies that makes them attractive to, well, fairies. The rules weren't necessary because they didn't work :)

5. What do I think about the Winter Queen?

** More Spoilers :) **

I think she had a proper end and am glad that Donia became the new queen. There will be a GREAT relationship between the Summer King & Winter Queen now :)

Jessi (jessim) 1. I think that in some cases the rules might be necessary but they are kind of over the top, but in cases like the nasty bitchy Queen, you wouldn't want her to know that you can see her, or at least I wouldn't.

4. Winter Queen? I'm not sure, the last one was so nasty, I have to agree with Shanon, that Donia will probably be much better at it.

3. Are the Faeries what u thought they would be like? never... but i liked them.

4. Who would u pick to be Summer Queen? i would pick the Aislinn. :)

I think the rules are a nice to way to add tension and foreboding to the narrative.

As for the faeries, I have a couple of reservations. I think they lack a certain magic and a certain mystery. The reason for this is because they're constantly in the background, tripping people, nudging people. I know Aislinn has the sight and I know she's afraid of them but I would've liked for there to have been some sort of trauma anchoring her fear. In 'Valiant', Luis was blinded in one eye after a faery discovered he had the Sight. Through this, we know that faeries are capable of brutal, immoral behaviour.

In 'Wicked Lovely' the faeries seem to be nothing more than a nuisance and Aislinn's fear of them is inherited from her Grandmother. Maybe a darker past will be revealed as the book goes on.

I think including the faeries in every single scene limits their mystery. They become almost background characters. I would've liked to have seen some 'normal' moments to contrast with the paranormal ones. The problem with having paranormal creatures in every scene is that they lose their otherness, they become woven into the fabric of daily life. If their appearances were broken up by dead moments, chapters where its just mundane characters in mundane settings, then I think they'd have more impact. As it is I'm just... used to them. Which is a shame because the book is telling me to be unnerved by them, a little bit enchanted by them. Instead it's kind of like walking down a busy street and being accosted by charity-workers. I see them but they don't really register.
