Hrvoje | 4 comments Hello, I'm reading In search of lost time in Croatian. It consists of 13 volumes. Some English editions have 6 or even 4 volumes for the whole novel. So I wanted to find some edition that has only 1 volume! Besides, I love thick books :) Has anyone came across such edition?
Thank you!

Martin Gibbs It's just too big I think. I have the 3-volume set from Vintage Press, and each one is about 1100 pages. To try and bind 3,000+ pages would be too much, I think. I've never seen it all in one, sorry.

(My son always picks up the copy I'm reading and says, "This is a big book, daddy." I like to remind him that it's only a third of it!)

Hrvoje | 4 comments Martin, thank you for your replay.
I'm currently on the 11th book (two more to go :)), and I'm already thinking about reading the whole novel again.
There is some old english edition that consists of only two volumes. I've come across Veterinary manual (in Croatia) that has 2800 pages (one volume) and is approximately 10 centimeters (3.9 inches) wide. The pages are very thin of course, but are not transparent. The manual is realy beautiful (and expensive too, around 200$). I have also contacted several croatian publishers and asked them how much would it cost to make a unique one volume edition of the novel.
Do you want to know the price :) ?

Martin Gibbs OUCH

Hrvoje | 4 comments That was my reaction too :) That's the price of a unique book, one copy only. I suppose the price would be around 300 $ for mass production copies.
