Elise | 7 comments I read this sometime in the 70's. it's about a spy who loves to cook. The beginning of each chapter has a recipe or menu.

Ingo (ilembcke) | 669 comments There might be another book, just have to check wether it was translated.
Jup. Highly recommended, and timeframe seems to fit:
well, first published in German 1960 per Goodreads, the listed english translation 1968.
Parts of the story are based on true events, the spy is real.
It Can't Always Be Caviar
It Can't Always Be Caviar by Johannes Mario Simmel
Oh, my bad, that is the same book, published under a different title.
Well, ok, just let me say, when I read it first, it was the Hardcover from my parents and I so wanted to read it again, I bought the used paperback 2010 and then the ebook last year.
Still on my TBR, but if you manage German (still in print and now also as an ebook) or can find a translation for a reasonable price - Caviar is listed for Us$ 274, Monte Christo Cover Up starts at Us$ 24 - I have fond memories of it, and highly recommend it and promise to read it again sometime.

Just for the people following this, even if the OP might not see it.
