Game:
Scrabble - Magenta's August Monthly Challenge.

It might be easier if we do break things down a bit like for 7%, since we have to read so many more books it will give a bit more of a variety to choose from.
A spell it out of some sort would probably be good too, since for 7% that worked well for the books that didn't really fit in anywhere else.

I really liked the Behind Enemy Lines. If we could use a book read any time it would make things so much easier.
I also thought of reading a book with any kind of plant (tree, flower, grass etc) on the cover or in the title. We could also do the same for animals.
Something else I'm doing for other challenges is read one book for each region of the world. Usually there are Africa, Asia, Australia, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, North America, South America and sometimes also Antarctica.
We definitely should break the whole thing down and have different categories. The more categories we have, the easier it should be.

The only issue I see with spelling out Magenta Mix-Up is mainly the X. Books/Author starting with X is difficult to find. Otherwise, I'm all for using it.

And how about another category: Short is Sweet - books less than 350 pages? It'll help boost up the numbers as well.

About the X: I don't think it will be a problem if we can use author names. I have one by a Chinese author sitting on my shelves (Death of a Red Heroine by Qiu Xiaolong) which I have been wanting to read for quite a while. I might just read it in August.

For the Short idea - While I really hate to encourage shorter over longer books, I'm hoping it'll help bring our numbers up.
Magenta Mix-Up is 12 letters. While each category need not necessarily have equal number of books, maybe we could have 7 categories with 12 books leading to 84 books to be read. Though we need only read 75 books, we could always aim for more. Does that sound good?

You could make an exception for "X." You could allow any titles, series names, or authors' names that have an "X" in them.

Also, how about Allison's ideas? Can we work out Scrabble as a reading game?

Based on the mods' rule, the limit for Spell-it-Out even if we don't have the words before hand is 24. I'll check with the mods jic but mostly it might not work for the August challenge. But, what I suggest is we can have it as our own monthly challenge for August. How's that?

That sounds fine with me - the best of both worlds, so to speak! :P

Also, I love the board game idea! What about a 'Connect Four' type idea, hooking up the last letter of one book title to the next book? For Example:
Gone GirL > Lovely BoneS > Sophie's ChoicE > Ender's Game

For the Connect Four, I'm thinking. I'll post agian.

1. Hook up the last letter in the title OR the Author OR Series Name
Ex: Gone GirL > Lovely BoneS > Sophie's ChoicE > Ender's Game
2. Hook up with a word in the title
3. This might sound iffy but how about genres? (And let's say you can't repeat genre?)
Romance -> Historical -> Fantasy -> Mythology
How does this sound?

The challenge will last the entire month of August and as a team we will have to read 75 books.
This thread is for suggestion/discussion of the August challenge.
Note:
1. They need not be single category or idea. They can be broken down into categories like 7%. Say, we can do a spell-it-out of Magenta Mix-Up or some other thing.
2. Some other teams are doing (a read-off) of board games like Risk or other games like Scavenger Hunt.
All crazy and sane ideas are very welcome!!
