How Do You Feel About Slang In A Book?

Yeah I felt the same way, the first I read it it irritated me, but the second time I really enjoyed it.
Books mentioned in this topic
The Maze Runner (other topics)Blood Red Road (other topics)
How do you guys feel about when characters use slang? For example in The Maze Runner the Gladers have their own slang ("clunk" is poop, being called a "stick" is an insult) and in Blood Red Road the characters all speak with a western accent.
I personally think slang adds to the character and overall uniqueness of the story.
If you've read either of the aforementioned books, let me know what you thought! Does slang bother you? Do you like it?
