Possible 14 books?

Like Robert Jordan,Martin loves to write long books and people have been comparing him to Robert for A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons,so it's possible that A Song Of Ice And Fire could go on for the same amount or longer then The Wheel Of Time.

A Dream of Spring will most likely be the last book in the ASOIAF series.

That said, if you want to count stories that take place in the same universe, then GRRM said he plans to write 10 novellas total in the Tales of Dunk and Egg series, and possibly other standalone novellas.

Yeah, some people don't think he'll live long enough to finish a Dream of Spring. That's an extreme pessimistic view, but not entirely unfounded. He takes his sweet time writing them.

Martin has said many times that there will be seven bks in the series. The cover of bk 6 has been revealed, so I hope 3/14 as the release date.
