Ashlyn | 1842 comments If I listen to an audiobook, how would I calculate the points?

message 652: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Good question, Ashlyn. I think Jacquelyn always based it on the number of pages posted on Amazon, but I'm sure Hannah will have the official answer for you.

I'm listening to an audio book too, but I only really listen in the car or if I'm doing dinner or something like that. So I might not even finish it before the end of the read-a-thon. LOL

message 653: by Ashlyn (new)

Ashlyn | 1842 comments I am listening to The Most Wonderful Tales of the Year Holiday Memories Written and Performed by Our Favorite Narrators by Audible Narrators , which is only an audiobook, so it doesn't have any pages or anything.

message 654: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Oh then I don't know how the page count is determined.

message 655: by Ashlyn (new)

Ashlyn | 1842 comments Is anyone actually answering our questions on this thread? It looks like you have several on here that haven't been answered.

message 656: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Sorry, I'm not sure Anna has spotted these! I'll answer what I can :)

Trisha | 30284 comments Vicki wrote: "I finished reading my movie book, which was about 3/4 of the entire book. I know I can't count points for it but that I can count pages. In my books read count, may I count that as "books read"?"

Sure, if it's just for your tracking and not points, count it :)

message 658: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Vicki wrote: "Another question also based on my book above that I read nearly 300 pages of today but had already read 125. May I use it for the BINGO game, or is it excluded since I'd already read some of it pri..."

Since BINGO is for points, it's excluded from that challenge but you can still use it in your personal tracking thread, just not for anything that counts for points to the Read-a-thon

message 659: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Yes, since it's a .6 and so short, it would be a novella

okay, I think I have an answer, based on average reading speeds for audio books and average words per page

but let me confer with the other mods and I'll get back to you later today :)

message 661: by Ashlyn (new)

Ashlyn | 1842 comments Basically, the book only has one edition (audiobook), so it doesn't have any page numbers.

message 662: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Ashlyn wrote: "Basically, the book only has one edition (audiobook), so it doesn't have any page numbers."

Yes, I've checked average reading speed for audio books and about how many words are on an average novel page

I think I have a formula figured out but I'm checking my math by the other mods :)
I'll let you know soon!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Are graphic books such as Sisters by Raina Telgemeier allowed? I'd like to read it for my ONE WORD TITLE for BINGO if I may. If not, I'll find something else. LOL

message 666: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new)

Trisha | 30284 comments Vicki wrote: "Are graphic books such as Sisters by Raina Telgemeier allowed? I'd like to read it for my ONE WORD TITLE for BINGO if I may. If not, I'll find something else. LOL"

Yes, I think it goes under
Novellas/Manga = 1 pt

in the point system

and since you can use Manga for points, you can use it for the Bingo challenge :)

message 667: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments OK thanks. :)

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Concerning audiobooks, you can count them as regular books! I consider audiobooks/physical books/ebooks the same. I'm not sure about the page count though...let me do I bit of math. :)

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Vicki wrote: "Are graphic books such as Sisters by Raina Telgemeier allowed? I'd like to read it for my ONE WORD TITLE for BINGO if I may. If not, I'll find something else. LOL"

It would count under manga.

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Sorry I didn't see your questions sooner! For some reason the questions feed was hidden. I'm here now if you have any more! :)

Okay, thank you.

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Ashlyn, we've come up with point system for audio books. It will be posted in the point claiming thread. Sorry I didn't see your question sooner!

Ashlyn | 1842 comments Another question, for Bingo, can I use a book that has more than two POV's for the 2 POV space, or can it only have two?

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Ashlyn wrote: "Another question, for Bingo, can I use a book that has more than two POV's for the 2 POV space, or can it only have two?"

I think that it's okay! I don't know why it wouldn't be. I'll ask Nix, but I'm pretty sure that she'll say yes. :)

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Ashlyn, it works! :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments For favorite genre in BINGO, can I classify YA as a genre? I will read pretty much any genre within YA (that's why I have such a huge TBR list, almost anything piques my interest) and I will switch periodically between different genres, so I don't really have a favorite 'genre'.

message 679: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments YA technically isn't a genre but since you seem to read any genre within it and you seem to like the majority of them, that'll work. :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments Thank you!

Absolutely! :)

message 682: by Linsey (new)

Linsey How to you count the points for books that are third and beyond in a series?

message 683: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (last edited Jul 24, 2017 08:47PM) (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) Linsey wrote: "How to you count the points for books that are third and beyond in a series?"

I believe that they are still considered sequels so you count it as a sequel. :)

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Linsey wrote: "How to you count the points for books that are third and beyond in a series?"

They are counted as sequels. :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments So, I just finished Stupid Perfect World, which is a short novella, but it is not a prequel to anything. Do I still count it as a prequel since it's a novella? What do I count it as?

I would count it as a prequel/manga (worth 1 point). I'll talk to Jacq about editing it. :)

Anna (Adventures with a Book Nerd) (bookish_anna) Alexa wrote: "I started a book right before the readathon and I was just wondering if the book would count if I started over from page one and finished it during the readathon. Thanks. :)"

If you started over from the beginning, then I think that it would work! Count it! :)

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 1020 comments For the square "Main Character that is not a student" in BINGO. Can I count a book in which there are multiple main characters, none of which are students?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments Jacquelyn, I want to know if and how I should claim this book's points. I read Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band by Kwame Alexander which is 32 pages and a children's picture book. It's told in poetic form. I absolutely LOVED it! I just don't know if it counts and if so, how?

Thanks, Jacquelyn, I wasn't sure if it would count but it was SO darn cute! You should read it. It's on Kindle Unlimited if you have that.

It's up to you. You can count it as one big book, or three separate books. Either way is fine by me. :)
