From about 1980-1982, there was several books that contained some awesome short storied. I am talking about the books like this because for the life of me I cannot remember which story was in what book. One was about kids babysitting while parents were gone and there was a sock monkey (I hate sock monkeys due to this story) and it was appearing throughout the house. There was a bad storm and the power went out. The main character kept noticing odd things about the sock monkey, like it was getting heavier and that it seems to have a pin stuck in it's paw. (view spoiler)[ story ends just wrong, girl reaches out as she is falling backwards down the stairs, lightening flashes and she see the sock monkey, now huge, at the top of the stairs.. it ends with and I reached out into darkness... it was a heck of a way to end a book!!(view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

There was another story about a family that traveled often and they would move into old houses where they would find the hair from dead relatives in the attic rafters and they would burn the hair. I remember them talking about cleaning the windows with newspaper and ammonia. This family had grandma and grandpa traveling with them. There was another story about a boy who gets to a work site where his dad is. There is an indignious people there who work along side this group of men. I remember the dad telling the boy to stay away from these people but of course like most young folks, he doesn't. I don't remember all that happened but I remember a boy he befriends being in the water helping him swim and the boy has gills.
There were many more stories but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. If I remember more of them I will post them in other comments.
