I received an ARC copy in the mail today! I might actually skip the space opera sci-fi book that is in my queue ahead of it to go to this.

(It's also skipping ahead of this kids book/novel I got about cats who are actually space aliens planning an invasion and one kitten's choice between the invasion and his humans. I'll bring this- Why Kimba Saved the World- and the Tammet book to Autreat if I go.)

Any thoughts I should keep in mind? I haven't read any of his other books yet.

Laura | 6 comments Tammet happens to be a special interest of mine. This is his third book and is essentially a book of 25 essays about how particular mathematical concepts show up in literature and whatnot. The first essay is about his family and number sets (he is the oldest of nine siblings). Another one is about how William Shakespeare might've approached the then-new concept of zero as a schoolboy. Feel free to skip an essay if it starts to bore you.

His first book was Born on a Blue Day. I have a special fondness for that book because his thought processes that he discusses in it (it's an autobiography through 2005, when he was 26) are very similar to my own. I found a kindred spirit in him and that book taught me that I need not be ashamed of being Autistic, because there are people like him who think like I do. I always bring my copy to Autreat to represent him as a special interest of mine and anyone is welcome to look through it.

I'm about halfway through. I meant to finish it today (I've been doing about an essay a day on weekdays) but had some loveliness from narcolepsy type issues, plus N.M. Silber had her cover reveal party on Facebook today and as a friend I participated there (and had fun) a bit.

I'm so glad you had fun! I'm sorry I had to leave. Ethan managed to break a window. (sigh) Thanks so much for being so actively involved!
