Diana I have to admit it is an easy read. But, throughout the series I have looked forward to the next book. There was only one I didn't like much at all. Sorry, can't remember which number but the main characters didn't really show up until the end of the book. The combined characters make the series. It is redundant I agree but I catch myself smiling. One time my husband came in to check on me cause he thought I was crying but I was only laughing out loud. Kudos to Janet. I don't know how long she can keep it up. The latter aren't as funny as the first ones but still enjoyable.

As far as the movie I always thought Stephanie should be played by Sandra Bullock and Betty White as Grandma. Couldn't picture the others accept in my mind.

Diana-I am anxiously awaiting my turn at the library with "Explosive Eighteen" but my favorite was "To the Nines" when they all ended up in Vegas--that was LOL hysterical--laughed til I cried!

Diana--I am too--it's been a long time coming!

Diana I'm working out of the country right now and won't be home until spring. Let me know if it is any good.

Diana--where are you working--if you don't mind my asking? You will still be able to read "Explosive Eighteen" though right?Canada and Mexico (but not the good Mexico) and that was years ago.

I am working in Kazakhstan right now. I like these books in hard copy instead of my Kindle so I will read it when I get home.

OK--I should probably know this--but geography was never one of my strong subjects!! LOL! Where is Kazakhstan--not near Afghanistan is it? What do you do there? I find this fascinating--hope you don't mind! And I do understand that you like to read the books hard copy--I get my name on the list for them at the library as soon as her website sends me an e-mail about the next in the series!

Diana It is part of old Russia. I work for Pinkerton Government Security with my husband. We guard American interests in technology on satellites. That is all I can say though.

That's very cool Diana--at least you were together for the holidays! Your job sounds very interesting and I can understand the need for secrecy. What else do you read beside Stephanie? Any other series? I'm fond of the supernatural genre-murder and mayhem-crime and detective series and I love a good ghost story!

Diana Who is it by? Some friends talked me into The Hunger Games Trilogy which I thought was pretty good.

Carole Diana wrote: "Who is it by? Some friends talked me into The Hunger Games Trilogy which I thought was pretty good."

I've heard of this series--can you tell me a little bit about the plot?

message 63: by Diana (new)

Diana The Hunger Games are about a country called Panem that goes to war with its outer districts. The districts lose to the Capital and one of the concessions is that each district will put up one boy and one girl in the arena to fight to the death with the other districts. Only one person will win. The terrain and conditions are never the same so it keeps you guessing. It is meant for an audience similar to Harry Potter which is a bit younger than myself but I found it quite original and entertaining. I liked Harry Potter's imaginative series as well. It is a 3 book series.

Also I like the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldan which is definitely meant for a more mature audience set in Scotland in the mid 1700s and the 1940s. Yes both. Clair touches a boulder and is sent back in time to the 1700s in Scotland. The books are quite lengthy, around 1000 pages each. There are I believe 7 and I have read them once but am reading them again on my Kindle. If you like Historical Novels you may like these.

What are you reading?

Right now I'm finishing "Veil of Night" by Linda Howard--a murder mystery with a twist of romance thrown in for good measure! I read mostly by author-although here at Goodreads I've been exposed to genres that I otherwise probably wouldn't have been-so that's good. IDK I like time travel and there was a time that all I read were historical books--mostly romance though.

message 65: by Diana (new)

Diana I'll check of Linda Howard. Thanks.

Carole Diana wrote: "I'll check of Linda Howard. Thanks."

If you'd like-I can give you a list of my favorite authors--the ones that I follow via their website updates--both stand-alones and series (like Stephanie Plum) that I've been reading for years. Of course Goodreads has expanded my horizons so that my TBR is now out of control!! LOL!!

Diana That would be great. I have a pretty busy life so at times I have dry spells and only read one at a time! I'm hoping to do less traveling this year so I'll have more time to read. Thanks.

Carole Diana wrote: "That would be great. I have a pretty busy life so at times I have dry spells and only read one at a time! I'm hoping to do less traveling this year so I'll have more time to read. Thanks."

Ok Diane--let me compile the list and I'll get back to you later--what is the time difference? I'm in Seattle--so pacific standard time. Where are you from when you are home?

Brenda Kirton Try Donna Andrews Murder with Peacocks for a different type of crazy relatives and friends in with the mysteries and a couple hot guys. Or First Grave on the Right by Daryinda Jones with a little paranormal

Carole Carole wrote: "Diana wrote: "That would be great. I have a pretty busy life so at times I have dry spells and only read one at a time! I'm hoping to do less traveling this year so I'll have more time to read. ..."

Sorry I didn't get this done tonight Diana--will work on it in the morning. Got some bad news about a very good friend's mom--she passed the day after Christmas--it wasn't totally unexpected--but still the timing sucks. Chat with you tomorrow...

Carole Brenda wrote: "Try Donna Andrews Murder with Peacocks for a different type of crazy relatives and friends in with the mysteries and a couple hot guys. Or First Grave on the Right by Daryinda Jones with a little ..."

Hi Brenda--can you give me a little more background on the books you mentioned? They sound good!!

Brenda Kirton Murder with peacocks the main character is a female blacksmith who is a maid of honor at three weddings including her mother's second marriage. When there is a murder she ends up not so much trying to solve it as trying to keep her over zealous dad from getting into trouble. Possibly hundreds of escentric relatives along the way.(including at least one in a gorilla suit)
At least ten books in the series.
First Grave on the right is about a private eye whose is also the grim reaper. in this case the she is the light that souls pass through to move on. Fast paced and fun. I have just found this series so I am only on the second in the series so far. Let me know if you do try out either of these. Enjoy

Carole Brenda wrote: "Murder with peacocks the main character is a female blacksmith who is a maid of honor at three weddings including her mother's second marriage. When there is a murder she ends up not so much trying..."

Brenda--There is an excerpt for First Grave on the Right so I'll read it first. Sounds funny though like Stephanie kind of huh?

message 74: by Diana (new)

Diana Carole I'm sorry for your loss. We have lost three freinds since we have been out of the country. One we expected and two we didn't. It is hard either way. Whenever you get the list is fine. No hurry at all.

Brenda I was wondering if the series is like the Plum novels too.

Brenda Kirton The feel is similar. The concept is totally different

message 76: by Diana (new)

Diana I was reading Lisa Gardner's mysteries and really enjoyed them before coming overseas. They are page turners and the ones I read sometimes have surprise endings.

Thanks Brenda. I'll add it to my "to read" books. I can't download on my Kindle from over here so I will have to do it when I get home.

Carole Diana--I haven't forgotten you!--just came down with a really nasty cold/flu thing and haven't been doing much more than sleep--will get that list of authors for you when I'm feeling better okay? Carole

message 80: by Diana (new)

Diana Carole please don't worry. I can't download anything right now anyway. Just get better. I check in every week or two so no hurry. I'll be running around Europe next month and then back to Oklahoma. Have a good rest.

Glad to be your friend Diana--I'm about to take some night time cold medicine and go to bed early--Europe huh? I have always wanted to see Europe--maybe someday-if I live long enough to be rich!! Chat with you later......

i too love this series, In the books I am a ranger fan but I really like the guy who will Morellis character. I am not sure anybody could live up to the ranger image I have. A friend of mine who also reads this series is going to see the movie with me.

message 84: by Diana (new)

Diana I can't wait to see the movie. It is funny how we picture the characters in the books. I hope the movie isn't a disappointment, but that won't stop me from reading the books. LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

message 85: by Diana (new)

Diana Brenda I just ordered Murder with Peacocks but can't download until I get back in the states. Looking forward to it.

I am linked to Janet Evanovich FB page and she has suggestions for parties for One for the Money. Sounds like fun.

Brenda Kirton I'm going to have to look that up. I will be going to the movie with my daughters. How come you can't download the book from where you are. copyrights?

message 87: by Diana (new)

Diana I'm in Kazakhstan and something about international trade laws supposedly.

Cheryl I love this series. It is laugh-out-loud funny and a nice, easy, entertaining read. I can't wait to see the movie.

Vivian I only really liked the first book of the series, it was laugh out loud funny. Hope the movie does it justice ( fingers crossed ).

Kristi Lavenduski The movie comes out Friday and I am so excited! Since I saw the previews prior to reading the book, I automatically pictured Stephanie as Katherine Heigl. I am looking forward to reading the entire series, so hopefully the library has book 2 ready for me :)

Carole Vivian wrote: "I only really liked the first book of the series, it was laugh out loud funny. Hope the movie does it justice ( fingers crossed )."
Vivian--Have you tried "TO the Nines"? I thought it was the best--absolutely LOL funny to me! I laughed until I cried!

Me too! Suprisingly To the Nines is my favorite. After that I liked the first installment.

I love all her books, Yes To the Niines is great, I die laughing and her silliness

Mysterygal3 Well follow readers of JE, I just came from the movies and saw "One for the Money" I loved it. The whole threather was laughing. I wasn't sure of her choice for "Ranger" but the guy wasn't to bad. I still wish she had cased someone better, but on the whole the movie was great.

Katherine Heigl was a great Stephanie Plum!! As well as Jason O'Mara that played Joe Morelli!!

Diana I'm still overseas. I'm so glad to hear it is good from those who have read the books! I can't wait to see it. Do you think there will be sequels?

Mysterygal3 will the Movie was almost like the books, so it could be a sequels. Lets cross our fingers and toes she made more of her books.

They are called tax deductions!!!! lol

Diana--I'm sorry I haven't been in touch lately--I was sick with flu/cold most of January and some personal issues on my plate as well--then my birthday was Feb 10th-and I was 60--so that didn't help with the depression thing! I haven't seen the movie and I missed getting 18 at the library so am on hold for it again--how are you doing?

message 99: by Diana (new)

Diana Happy Birthday Carole. I'm 61. I heard the movie was pretty good. Really looking forward to seeing it when I get home. Still don't know when though. Hope you are feeling better.

I'm tired but good. I keep getting sinus infections over here though! Too many allergens I guess. Can't wait to get home and download some new books.

Keep in touch Diana

Deborah Lynne I read several of Janet Evanovich's books in her Stephanie Plum Series. Enjoyed the laughter. Loved the grandmother...and of course the 2 hero's. I had to stop reading them because the language was more than I wanted to read. The books themselves and story lines are great. I wish I could still be reading them...but I felt lead to stop. Janet writes with a great sense of humor.
