C.L. (cindy_mccourt) | 29 comments Hi. I think I did everything I am supposed to do but it still isn't working. I added a new edition of The Channel with BNs ISBN number. I combined all editions with the combine interface. BUT when I try to go to the BN page with my book, the link does not find the book on BN but the book is there. What did I do wrong?

Amanda | 2442 comments Are you on the right edition?

The BN edition is working for me, went right to the book.

C.L. (cindy_mccourt) | 29 comments Shouldn't it work on all versions? Each version of the book has the option to shop at BN but only one works for me.

Amanda | 2442 comments The BN link will work with the edition that has the BN ID, Amazon will work with the edition that has an ASIN.

The link to the far left is a sponsored link, sometimes it is for BN and sometimes it's for Kobo (or another provider). The other links are customized by user.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6327 comments You can customize your middle and rightmost green get-a-copy buttons (edit profile and use the book links tab) to search by title or other fields instead of isbn; otherwise goodreads defaults always seach by isbn/asin numbers. If, for example the kindle asin edition your book defaults to, is not on Barnes and Noble site then it won't be found.

No way of telling how a goodreads member has customized their buttons or if they just left as goodreads defaults.

The Barnes and Noble button that might be showing on your leftmost green get-a-copy button can change on you and other members to a completely different bookseller (itunes, kobo, etc.) because it is a sponsored/paid link you cannot customize. I've never seen the Barnes and Noble ad set to search on anything other than isbn fields; but, when the ad space is bought they might have a choice of what field to search on. If so, you might want to suggest to Barnes and Noble that when they buy the purchase link ad space they choose to search by title instead of isbn.

Authors can set which edition is primary/default if you don't want that to be the kindle edition (if not set, goodreads uses most popular edition). To do so, go to edition wanted, "edit details" and midway down righthand column set as primary. More sites will lookup by regular isbn number than by kindle asin that only amazon site/link will use. Author's choice.

C.L. (cindy_mccourt) | 29 comments Sorry. I'm confused. Why is there a BN link showing when it isn't supposed to work? And how do I customize the other links?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6327 comments Looks like needs to also be added to series.

The Barnes and Noble link works for any edition of the book that Barnes and Noble sells. In this case, only the nook edition with the bnid 294###. The Barnes and Noble link works for books bn carries/sells. It won't work to look up the kindle edition which is only carried/sold by amazon.

The Barnes and Noble link on the left green button changes according to which advertiser pays for that space.

If you customize your purchase links, it doesn't change anything for any readers or other goodreads members. Only for you.

While you cannot change the "Barnes and Noble" green button that shows at left, the middle button you can change for commercial/booksellers and the rightmost button is for non-commercial sites like libraries, worldcat, etc. You do so under profile settings under the links tab.

C.L. (cindy_mccourt) | 29 comments Yes. I submitted a ticket to create a series. Thanks but it's just been done by another librarian.

C.L. (cindy_mccourt) | 29 comments Okay. I think I am understanding the link thing. I will play with it. thanks for your help.

Deon (deonva) | 3719 comments The links you see on each book's page and the ones I see are not the same.

Every user has the option to customize the links they see on their edit profile's booklinks tab.

Empress (the_empress) And each edition is connected only to it's own number. So if I open the paperback page I can choose to buy it from amazon or elsewhere, but if I go to the kindle page, the B&N will not work because they do not use ASIN numbers.
