Two hours later, shelf number one for overflow books is done. I was looking specifically for shelves that were not deep, so I could cram a lot of pocket paperbacks into it without a lot of wasted space. Found three different models at reasonable prices. Only got one like this, though. I think the others can wait for another night to get put together!
Evans wrote: "Two hours later, shelf number one for overflow books is done. I was looking specifically for shelves that were not deep, so I could cram a lot of pocket paperbacks into it without a lot of wasted s..."Wow that'd be way too small for me lol. But its nice.
Thanks. That's one little shelf out of about seven really big ones, Joycedale. I've had to resort to finding little ones that will fit into unused nooks and crannies at this point, thus the odd shelf size. It fit perfectly into a little strip between the picture and the window, and looked decent enough my wife didn't complain about me adding it. Manged to get about 40 books onto this little thing (plus my ALIENS box set in front of some of them!)
found the bookend pic...and one with L brackets along with 20 other ideas...will still look for window shutterswww.buzzfeed.com/peggy/25-awesome-diy...

here's a similar idea with the shutters...we used wood blocks behind the shutter to have more space behind...and the book covers hung in front..not behind the slats...but same idea.http://homeandgarden.craftgossip.com/...

Thanks. That's a pretty cool concept.
Thanks for sharing, Scott. That one bookshelf with the expensive aluminum ladders would cost a mint and would be an awful lot of work taking everything off whenever you needed to change a light bulb.
evans...and it takes up too much space...I'd go with old single wooden ladders...no A frames and mount them to the wall.
You know, the added bonus of putting your bookcases against outside walls is the added insulation factor you gain during the winter. I've used that more than once to justify the purchase of more bookcases...not that you should ever have to justify the purchase of more books or bookcases...

Sorry folks! Promise I haven't fell off the face of the earth. We are working seven days a week on mandatory overtime until Christmas AND I'm still getting up at 4:30 a.m. every morning to take grandchild to daycare. Good news is - I get to read a lot at work on the weekends. Too busy to read during the week now, but weekends are great. I get paid overtime pay for reading most of the day :-)
Glad to hear you're alive and well, Cindy!I just got back from a weekend trip to visit family. Seven hours each way. Beat down and tired now! At least I only had to drive half the time, got some good reading in on my Kindle paperwhite, Love that thing, only e-reader I've been able to use.
Hey Cindy, it's good to hear from you ,I had a job once were I could read but it's still draining as you have to be ready to move at a moment's notice.Evans, I'm getting a nexus7, it's like the kindle fire HD except it can do more. It will be replacing my Kindle. I just hope it's the right move, it's meant to be better than the iPad.
I've got American horror story coven on, but it's a bit boring so I'm playing on my Kindle and got the washing machine on.
Coven hasn't really grabbed me either. I watched 2 episodes and will probably try the 3rd, but it may not be for me. I loved the first season, though.
Pulling what little hair is left out of my head now!!! Student loans and trying to deal with deferments suck. I told the lady on the phone that I was going to end up in a mental hospital before all this is over. I believe she thinks I was kidding. NOT! Want to read, but too upset right now. Will make an attempt later.
Angie wrote: "Evans, I'm getting a nexus7, it's like the k..."I got one of those for my son last Christmas. He seems to love it.
Yes it my son who told me to get one. When I went and looked at them, the quality was really good. I've just finished Jangos Anthem and it was such a good book.
♥Joycedale♥ wrote: "Sitting here with my sister watching Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I absolutely love this movie."One of my faves. About time for a rewatch.
Angie wrote: "I've got American horror story coven on, but it's a bit boring so I'm playing on my Kindle and got the washing machine on."I saw season 1 of American Horror Story, and hope to start season 2 this week on Netflix. I really enjoyed the first season, and heard good things about the second season in the asylum.
I am watching season 3 of AHS right now Rick. All I can say at this moment is... baby gravy?? Ewww. I never thought I would see THAT on TV. Well, I may want to check out season 2 still, but this one is still not holding my attention. It's on in the background, but that's about it.
Adam wrote: "I am watching season 3 of AHS right now Rick. All I can say at this moment is... baby gravy?? Ewww. I never thought I would see THAT on TV. I'm going to hope for good things in the second season, bump in the road for third season, and getting back on track for season four.
I must of missed the baby gravy, glad bout that, but I fell asleep watching coven. I really liked s 1&2 as well. It might pick up.
I don't know that I will bother watching AHS any more. As Rick mentioned, season 1 was really unique at the time it was on, and just what the dr. ordered to fight off awful boring cookie cutter garbage on TV. At this point, I think there are way too many books to read (and write!) and the story is not even remotely interesting enough to hold my attention anyway. Seems they are going to try and one up the gross outs every week. Yawn. I will probably watch S1 again someday but no witches harping and infighting with each other for me. I think Honey Boo Boo just came on anyway!
I've only seen the first two episodes of AHS Cover so far, enjoyed the first episode, but the second one was losing me fast with the frankenstein / demon seed story line. Not hopeful from Adam's comments here. Reading and writing is sooo much better than TV.On topic, I just finished up writing a new Halloween story that I plan on releasing via my Goodreads blog tomorrow. I liked the title of Adam's new Halloween story, TOMMY ROTTEN, so much that I've decided to call mine CANDIE APPLE. Hopeful that it will make a good companion piece to complement my brother's fantastic tale.
OK, I am over my temper tantrum from yesterday. I apologize for my ranting. I am almost finished with The Casual Vacancy (thank God!) and I checked out A Curious Man: The Strange and Brilliant Life of Robert "Believe It or Not!" Ripley from the library. I haven't had much luck in finding Carrion Comfort from the local UBS or the library. I will probably pass on that one for now because I still have so many I want to read before the end of the year. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying a good book.
CARRION COMFORT is definitely a must-read book for horror fans. I thought THE TERROR was a significantly better book, though. Simmons just released another one called The Abominable that's centered around mountaineering, which is a subject I have read a lot about lately and really enjoy.Never been real big on bios but I'm starting to dig 'em more. This one is on my radar for sure:Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla: Biography of a Genius,
Adam wrote: "I got a copy of The Terror a fewdays ago. Another heavy one. I will read it before I die, I hope."If not, there should be plenty of time afterwards. I always figured heaven has to be one huge library with tremendously comfortable seating. My view has changed. Now I think it is unlimited internet access, with all books nicely categorized and waiting for my Kindle - but still with tremendously comfortable seating. :)
Interesting concept, Brenda. Here I have been collecting so many books with the hope that I will be allowed to live long enough to read them all (seems fair to me, and at this point I have nearly achieved immortality) when I don't really have anything to worry about anyway. Afterlife With Books... coming soon!
At work at the moment. I get my Mexican fix for lunch in about 45 minutes (I have the early lunch, from 11-12). But I'm going to watch The Shining tonight (the one with Steven Weber, which I've never seen before), by myself - after I visit Grandma at the nursing home and go to a meeting at Physician's Choice Wellness, which is a physician-assisted weight loss program (I've lost 45 pounds so far, and feel oh so much better! Yay me! LOL!)! It's just another normally busy day in my life. I really need more reading time!
Congratulations Brenda! Losing weight is a really difficult effort, and it sounds like you're doing fantastic!! I'm also trying to lose weight. I had taken a class through the local hospital that included weight loss shakes as part of the routine. I lost 40 lbs, but the dedication and drive slipped away, I now need to refocus. I'd really like to find a local branch of Quitters Inc. I think the drive would come back in no time!
Hey Rick! You are in luck, sir. I happen to be manager of one of the branches. And I do house calls.
Rick, you might want to tuck away your family for this one! Sounds downright scary to me!This also is a liquid diet, with shakes and soups. It started at the hospital several years ago, then they took it out as a stand-alone business. Insurance even pays for part of it. I'm starting the 17th week today. I don't expect to have done fantastic this week, as I was in FL at my Ops Mgr conference last week - and I had a steak, which has been on my agenda since I started this in July. So now I need to buckle down and get the rest of this complete. I don't have that much more to go. I'm just glad I feel better than I have in a long time.
A friend of mine is also on it. She said a co-worker of hers keeps bringing in 10-pound bags of kitty litter for her as she loses 10 pounds, so when she feels like she hasn't done well, she can carry them around the office. I told her that at this rate, with the help of just a few more bags under there, she won't have to get up during the day at all! LOL!
Adam wrote: "I got a copy of The Terror a fewdays ago. Another heavy one. I will read it before I die, I hope."I got the terror last Christmas, but I haven't got round to reading it yet either. But I've just got in after seeing Thor 2 at the cinema. It was so good that I'm going to take my grandson to see it next week!:)
So Carrion Comfort sounds good, so it can go on my list I think, my never ending list, lol. A liquid diet must be hard to stick to, I'm not sure I could just do that! So how long will you have to do that for Brenda? It's great how much both you and Rick have lost:)
I want to lose about another 24 pounds, Angie. They take blood every 2 weeks, and do an EKG every 50 pounds. They monitor all meds as well. My doctor's office is quite sold on it. They have counselors and nutritionists and other professional people around to help. Once goal is reached, there is a 6 week transition period to bring regular stuff back into play (although I am doing salads at least a couple of times a week), then 6 weeks for 'sustaining'. Once done, there is a free lifetime membership as long as I stay within so many pounds of goal.Something I've found through here is Walden Farms dressings - 0 everything, except a little sodium - but they use mostly regular ingredients, and they taste great. Check out www.waldenfarms.com. I can buy a lot of their products at Walmart or County Market - even some in Krogers. I love the thousand island - and the bacon ranch - and the sweet onion. They also have caramel dip and chocolate dip and pancake syrup - all have been really yummy.
Adam wrote: "Hey Rick! You are in luck, sir. I happen to be manager of one of the branches. And I do house calls."Well I'll either lose a lot of weight quick, or people will start calling me Stumpy!!

I have quite a ways to go to get to my ideal, target weight, but it's something I have to do. The class I took, starts you off with 3 or 4 shakes a day, with one regular meal and works towards no longer using the shakes. They show you these jello-like masses that weigh 2, 5 and 10 pounds, so you can see just what you've accomplished. Very helpful. You'll be done in no time, and once you're there, you're going to feel so great about having accomplished it!
Rick wrote: "Brenda wrote: "Rick, you might want to tuck away your family for this one! Sounds downright scary to me!This also is a liquid diet, with shakes and soups. It started at the hospital several years..."
I have 3 liquids a day, each pack with 1/3 of the daily nutrition I'm supposed to have. Other than that, I can have 2 dill slices, or 2 celery sticks. And that about does it. It's roughly 600-800 calories per day. These drinks actually are quite filling. I was in withdrawal, though, needing jalapenos LOL! They told me I could cut some up in my soup - so the girls in my office call it jalapeno soup, since I usually cut up 6-10 in my mug of cream of chicken or cheddar broccoli soup. Anyway, I'm just glad it's working so well for me at this time. I wish you good luck, too! Keep me posted on your progress - I'd love to hear about it! And I'll help encourage you in any way I can - feel free to send me a message! :)
Rick I add jalapeno s to everything as well! Soup , pizza just about anything. You guys are doing so well with your diets, I think it's better to lose weight that way than having your stomach steapled, but that's easy for me to say as I'm not dieting. It's good that you're monitered by a doctor though.:)
