Wow, I didn't know this, either! Sounds impressive, Gregor. Thankee for the heads-up, Adam.

I might already have Toes Up, I'll check. If not, I'll grab it. I'm kind of still waiting for the continuance of something called The Continuance Agency. The author of that one kind of left me in a lurch.

Thanks, Dustin. I don't know about 'impressive.' But if you get it, I do hope you enjoy it.

You're most welcome. Jason Parent's brilliant review played a big part in my decision to add it.

That's the other King book I've not read, but I'm reading Dr sleep and A Winter haunting, that's turning out really well.

Michelle Kobus (michellekobus) Rereading The Grim Grotto. After this, I'm thinking I need to break away from my reread of A Series of Unfortunate Events for a while. I wanted to reread the whole series before the end of 2013, but this is the 10th book I've read since November. :-/

Angie | 623 comments I'm just starting the Diabolical Conspiracy after reading more of Dr sleep and A Winter haunting. I want to read it before Devil in the White City gets here tomorrow.

The Diabolical Conspiracy is a good, quick read. You shouldn't have a problem. And The Devil in the White City is a darn good book.

I wish I could juggle books like you do Angie. I just don't have the ability to keep my focus on all the different story lines. I envy you!

message 570: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I've been reading that way for years. When my kids were younger a had a book in different rooms, nowadays, I have a couple on my Kindle, and a few real ones in a pile!

Angie | 623 comments I love short stories as well, I read those when I have a short break,

message 573: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Kobus (michellekobus) I usually juggle two novels at once, especially if one of the ones I'm reading is very long, to break the monotony.

message 574: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I do flip between books but at a certain point I just read to the end and don't read a different book in between. It's usually just after the half way mark, then I stay up until it's finished.

I really enjoyed that book Jordan it had me laughing. Part two came out a while back and has gone on my huge to read pile!
My copy of The Devil in the White City has turned up so I'm going to make a start on that

GeneralTHC She wrote: "I'm participating on a readalong for 11/22/63. Hopefully I'll finish it by the 22nd. 11/22/63"

That has to be one of my very favorites. I started to read it for the third time just a couple days ago. The audiobook is really, really good, too.

message 585: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Well, I've got out of control again and have like 13 books I'm currently reading, officially. Really it's considerably worse than that. I cannot help it. I have to read what I'm in the mood for.

I started reading Helter Skelter The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi last night. I'm about a hundred pages into it. It's pretty good, too.

I'm still working on The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton but I have taken so much time and it so intricate I may have to re-read the first 300 pages.

I'm reading Wolf Hall (Thomas Cromwell, #1) by Hilary Mantel and really enjoying it. It's not an easy read by any means, though. That woman is an unbelievably talented writer. I'm talking master prose. She definitely deserves both Booker Awards. I'll be shocked if the next one doesn't win it as well. I can't speak highly enough of her skills.

I'm also reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt . I'm not sure that Donna Tartt is my kinda storyteller. It's been alright, though. I have about 200 pages left I think and I have heard so much praise for her I'm reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt as well. Not too far into it, though.

I have two non-fiction books from Eric Larson going: The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson and In the Garden of Beasts Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin by Erik Larson . That guy is a researcher extraordinaire.

I'm reading Mandela's autobiography: Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela , I think everyone should probably read it.

I'm reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera . I'm not really that into it, though but I'll continue with it for now.

I started another David Liss book: The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss . I'm convinced this guy is the real deal as far as historical fiction goes. I'll probably read all his stuff eventually.

I'm reading the fourth book in Robert McCammon's Matthew Corbett series: The Providence Rider (Matthew Corbett, #4) by Robert R. McCammon . I don't know why he's not more popular. He's a really solid writer AFAIAC.

I'm also reading a book by a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist about everything that has gone down in the government, politics, and specifically the CIA since 9/11 regarding Afghanistan, Pakistan, and all that mess. And it is a mess, no doubt. It's not easy reading either: The Way of the Knife by Mark Mazzetti .

message 586: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Oh yeah, and I just started another one I'm hoping to read straight thru if my back will quit hurting me and I can sit here in this position long enough to read it: Tree of Smoke by Denis Johnson . It won the National Book Award in 2007.

It's one I've never read, and Adam says the same as you. That is one of his best, if you're on your third reading I should give mine a first reading. I'll read it when I've finished Dr sleep. I can understand that you've got thirteen books on the go, but that far exceeds what I have going at once!!

I'm sorry your back hurts Chuck:(, I fell yesterday and its my wrist that got hurt! It's all bruised and swollen and I'm thinking I should go for an xray:(. I just wanted a day of doing nothing apart from reading.

message 588: by [deleted user] (new)

Chuck, you're giving me lots of reading ideas as usual. Currently I'm reading a Japanese mystery All She Was Worth by Miyuki Miyabe . Not sure how much I like it yet. Hub's going to the library today, so who knows what else I'll start?? Hope your back feels better, friend.

Angie | 623 comments That sounds really good Dustin. I get so many good ideas just seeing what other people are reading. I went and had my wrist checked and its just badly bruised.

I hope you got some of your book read Chuck:)

message 591: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Appreciate it, Ladies!

Angie, Sorry you fell. Hope it heals for you quickly! I understand wanting to just relax and read. I'm very understanding when it comes to that, hehe.

Terri, I've been meaning to branch out into that area. I would like to read more Murukami and there is another Japanese author I want to read named Yoko Ogawa. I'm not real big on short stories but this one looks interesting to me: Revenge by Yōko Ogawa .

I've looked at the Japanese authors you've mentioned and liked the sound of both of them. I've put them on my wish list so I don't forget their names. I love finding out about new author's, so thanks for that:)

Rick Shepard I read Ring, by Koji Suzuki, after I watched Ringu. It's a really interesting book, and come to find out, a couple of his other novels were turned into movies as well. His writing is very dark and unique. I would definitely recommend him!

message 594: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I never knew that the Ring was from a book! I've just gone and had a look on Amazon, and I can get it in hardback and delivered for only £1.70. I love it when I can pick up a book for a bargain price:)

Parvathi | 25 comments My reading list is pretty long :) So many books, I'm enjoying all the reads!

Started Hyperion (Hyperion Cantos, #1) by Dan Simmons , halfway through Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis and Sycamore Row (Jake Brigance, #2) by John Grisham

message 596: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I've got the Dan Simmons book on my Kindle waiting to be read. I've read a few now but they are set in the real world. Is Hyperion good? And John grissham, I've not read anything of his for years!

I know, I love seeing what everyone else is reading, too. Most of the time, I end up adding more to my TBR.. imagine that!:)

Anyway, I'm happy to hear that Kiss sounds really good to you. I'm only 51 pages in (just started yesterday,) but it's quite the trip already. But what can I say? I love Ted Dekker, his stories tend to be very much fringe, and well.. trippy. Not in a psychedelic sense, but certainly not your typical storyteller. Have you read Dekker before?
