Barry Brownstein (barrybrownstein) | 7 comments Excerpt from the memoir Old Man on Campus, a 58 year-old goes back to school...

We have tomorrow off so there is a class party tonight. After a shower to wash away the lab smell and with some beer and chips to share, I join my classmates in the backyard of a nearby house. Most of the evening’s conversation is about school, and I fit in just fine. Then two of the guests start talking about how they want to skip their upcoming fifth and tenth high school reunions, respectively. Ouch. My high school class is having its fortieth in a few weeks, and I’m probably the only one missing it because he’s still in school.

By ten o’clock, most of the group decides that it’s time to leave for The Double L, a bar downtown. After that, in RaeAnn’s words, “We will see where the night leads us.” For someone forty years out of high school, it leads to bed, so I wish them well.

Jeffrey Rasley | 177 comments Interesting Barry -- I just spent 3 weeks trekking in Nepal with 5 graduating seniors (from college). The experience hardened some generalizations I have about the millennial generation. I'm interested to learn about your observations and opinions about the 20-somethings you've encountered.

Jill Schaefer | 61 comments Can relate to your back to school story, Barry. I went back to get my AA degree when in my sixties, and that was 15 years ago! Will have to read your book to see if we had similar 'other generational' experiences. Jill
