SOLVED. Slave girl goes on a quest [s]

I think the book was pink, on the front it had a picture of the main girl. It was a christian children/YA book.
The main girl is a slave around the time of the civil war. For some reason she goes on a quest. At one point she is told about the quest and she says something like, "What's a quest? Is it like a dog or a horse?"

I haven't read this book, my friend just told me about it, so I might have some of the facts wrong.
