Your most frightening read

Just wanting to know: what is the scariest, most frightening thing you've ever read? I have just begun House of Leaves, but am only into the very early stages of it. I am constantly searching for something that will keep me awake at night - so would love to hear some recommendations!

I'm now reading Marisha Pessl Night Film an advanced review copy and so far it is very creepy reminds me a lot of House of Leaves with photos and news articles of a famed filmmaker and his daughter who just committed suicide.
Very engrossing read and i keep wanting to do research to see if this stuff real.

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. I don't know if it would be as scary to me today because I read it in 1978 when I was twelve years old, but at the time, it was so scary that at night, during the time I was reading it, I had to store the book in another room of the house than my bedroom and sleep with the light on. Long after I ceased being religious or necessarily believing in God, if I walked into a room with a crucifix, I would have to check that it wasn't upside down. . . .
Oh, and Alli, I did read House of Leaves last year and enjoyed it's creepiness, but it didn't freak me out like the Exorcist did!

I recently read The Resurrectionist, and I found to be disturbing to the point of frightening.
I've had House of Leaves sitting on my shelf since High School. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a big baby and I have nightmares like crazy, plus I live alone. I'm kind of scared to read this. :-/
The book that scared me the most was In Cold Blood. I'm not sure if I'm just a wuss or if the book was truly scary, but it definitely had an impact on me. My mom on the other hand reads Stephen King and the like, so she's used to creepy books. She was telling me Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders was probably the most creepy that she has read. Needless to say I will probably not be attempting that one.lol.

When this question comes up, I will immediately say The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.
