I loved season 1 and read the books following that season, still loved the first season, felt like it was one of the best novel adaptations I'd ever seen, season two was close enough not to bother me much but a few things got on my nerves a bit, season three just wasn't really my style at all and I have to try really hard to not get annoyed by changes because their were too many of them in my opinion. But I admit, that I sort of have a bias since Storm of Swords is by far my favorite installation. Just have to try to detach so I can enjoy it, what I liked about season 3 was how it let me talk to me friends about the series so much and inform them of things they left out from the books....basically, to me, season three is a great talking point, not the best adaptation.

Season 1 I was on my toes eagerly waiting for the next episode.
Season 2 I was the same the first 4 episodes, then I'd watch them whenever I felt like it, usually 2 or 3 weeks later.
Season 3 was ok, but the same happened to me, I'd let 2 or 3 episodes go by before watching another one again.
I am not sure of why this is, it just kind of happens that the episodes don't really grab me. But it's still better tv than 90% of what is out there.

Imagine if these books were turned into Movies...everyone would be totally shitty. You just couldn't squeeze books of this size into a 2 or 3 hour movie. So I think we are lucky they are a TV series, at least we're getting more than we would if it was a movie.

I mean, why else would Jorah still be around?

as far as jorah not being banished yet, it's because it happens after the sack of meereen. dany, mad at both barristan and jorah for lying to her, sends them through meereen's sewers as way of ridding herself of them, and to see if they would prove their loyalty. when they both returned alive and well, she decides to hear them out. barristan gives some reasonable perspective on why he hid his identity, while jorah pleads and begs and generally acts like petulant dick, so she tells him he has to leave her immediately. not to mention the fact that he not only was lying but was selling her out to her enemies.

(view spoiler)
I do think that they could have found a way to hide Selmys appearance - but it was never *that* big of a deal to me.
In terms of the overall question re satisfaction as to the in-keepingness with the book - yes and no. I have always seen the series as something separate and for the most part they have kept pretty close... I was more annoyed at what they were doing with Theon (view spoiler) considering some of that comes from Dance...
Although I think that the series end result will be the same as the books (provided Martin finishes all the books and the HBO series doesn't get cancelled) I think the method of getting there is going to be rather different.

I kinda figured they just didn't want to loose Alfie Allen so they didn't drop the Theon storyline. He's one of my favorite actors on the show. He's not necessarily how I pictured Theon looking, but he really does portray the emotions and inner dialogue of the character better than a lot of the actors. I enjoy him and Peter Dinklage quite a lot.

I know! I know why they are introducing it now so we can see it happen as opposed to be a total shock but it was still a bit annoying!

The kid is going to age, my guess is they'll do the same as with Theon and speed up his storyline so he doesn't look like an adult by the time they reach him going past the wall.
I was kind of annoyed with the Theon part, but it was also because that annoyed me in the book as well, since it was one of my least favorite parts of Dance it was annoying to see it in the series too.

What did you guys think about not seeing Cold Hands? I was expecting to meet him at the end of the Finale with Sam and Bran, but...nadda.
Really hoping that shows up in the premiere or something next season because I just can't imagine they'd cut that out.

But some ominous looming figure in the background would have been a great leave off and maybe kept up the talk on the show for a bit longer after the finale.
Then again, it would have been A LOT better if they had made Sam "The Slayer" in episode one instead of halfway through the season in a scene where no other Black Brother will ever know that he killed an actual Other...*facepalm*
I'm also just not impressed with Arya's stabbing scene, I really hope they have another where she kills the ACTUAL Tickler and goes all crazy.
Is there any gold hidden in the village?

I don't remember that at all.
How sad. That was one of my favorite Arya scenes, showed her mental trauma so well.
If HBO keeps The Hound, can we take that as a confirm he isn't dead? I'd so love that.

Perhaps she'd be the one to kill Polliver?
I'd love to see the Hound sticking around after Arya leaves him and see him transforming into some priestly type, but that would ruin/reveal yet another GRRM mystery.
Also, let's say the inn scene does take place; that shouldn't take much more than one episode - what are we going to see of Arya next?
I heard rumors that we might get to see her Braavos arc from book 4...

my guess is if they reframe the scene for tv, they'll either make it some nobody that tries to rob the hound while he's drunk, or make it a more prominent character like say thoros or anguy recognizing arya and trying to steal her back.

Since there was no witness point of view and no real description of the red wedding and Rob's death I was hoping that he was a hostage and would reappear.
In the books all that was said was that a wolf's head was stitched to his body but nobody actually saw his head and Roose never said outright "yeah I finished him off".
Somewhere GRRM acknowledged that the scene was exactly how he had imagined the Red Wedding (minus Rob's wife in there) so I guess that killed my little theory.
Was I a lone whacko on this or someone else had the little hope that Rob could be around and reappear like Theon did?

Obviously the producers/writers and I have differing opinions of what was important character build.
@Manuel, I never really thought that... LOL.
But I have thought (and obviously this is complete speculation) that in the "old days" of Westeros, when there was a King in the North, all of them had to be buried at Winterfell, and all of them had to be "sealed" in there tombs by iron swords. Robb is the first King of The North (or King of Winter) we have heard of that has not had this practice occur. So maybe with magic resurfacing and getting stronger, plus the fact that Rob and Greywind were wargs, that they might come back to life during Winter kinda like R'hllor Zombies, but more similarities with Others...
Okay...maybe that was confusing...its hard for me to convey this thought process...

Stephen wrote: "No I was not happy. No Belwas?! No Whitebeard beating the u know what out of Mero?! And Daario a Second Son?! Makes no sense if you are like me and have read all the books and know the story arc...."
That completely bothered me too.In the show,I was waiting for Strong Belwas. He was a favorite.

A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb. “Jaime Lannister sends his regards.” He thrust his longsword through her son’s heart, and twisted.
If they go by the books the Hound can't stay alive.

Our last encounter with the Hound he is not dead, only dying. If he recieved medical attention quickly enough he could easily have lived.
I also believe it's mentioned that when Elder Brother finds him Sandor is still alive. A lot of people believe Sandor had a change of heart after meeting and being cared for by the monks and that is why Elder Brother says "THE HOUND is dead" Not Sandor Clegane is dead.
I believe there is a suspiciously large novice in the company as well.
It's a fan theory, one of the few I actually like. Plus, we've seen that faking deaths isn't a fresh idea or anything for this series. LOL
Surely he died, there is a gravesite with his helm on it.

Okay, that was a very good explanation.
Although it does not make me like what HBO is doing to the books.

The most convincing reasons for Sandor still being alive in the books are contained in the books.
The following link outlines some of the points regarding this theory (spoiler warning don't click if you haven't read AFFC yet!)
Gravedigger theories
And re not liking what HBO is doing to the books, the books haven't been written yet, so it's a bit early to get upset over what HBO did to them :)

To be honest five of the books have been written, right now their focus is on just the first three.
Although the Gravedigger theories makes valid points.

There are graves for Bran, Rickon, and Aegon as well.
Like I said, its just a theory, but it was around way before HBO ever got involved, so I wouldn't lay the blame squarely on them if it turns out to be true in the show. It would just be them pandering to readers, trying to perk our interest. GRRM could easily make it work either way in the story, he has enough opening to pull off a convincing revival.
Honestly, I think Aegon had less wiggle room than Sandor and that didn't seem to stop him at all.

I think I misunderstood you then. I thought you meant the show causes GRRM to change the books.

that i think is the only likely change you'll ever see in the books as a result of the show. and, it's a bit minor at that.

Regardless, I still think it's premature to evaluate stuff that hasn't been published yet.
