Mother by Maxim Gorky :PRead at the age of 13..enjoyed it greatly but understood it's full ideology much later ...!!!!!!!
I was always fond of reading comics and fairy tales as a kid. I used to love Archie comics and Roald Dahl books. But, the first proper book I read was David Copperfield when I was in sixth grade.

I read the fourth book first in the HP series (because at that time I was obsessed with all things Robert Pattinson and he played Cedric in the movie...) then when I realized how much I loved it, I read the whole series in one go:))
Mu first book is Famous Five (the 13th book) and I read it at the age of 8....when I was in 3rd std. Loved it so much that I read all the 21 books maybe 4-5 times....nid Blyton's wholly responsible for making me love to read:))

it was like 11 years ago :)
Ruchi I too loved the St Clare's I am now trying to buy the faraway tree online for my daughter. Thanks for making me remember.
I guess Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes.. The one with the 56 short-stories.. Good times :) Couldn't get enough of those!!
My first real book, and first book love of many, was Eragon.I've must have read it like 7 times by now.
The first book I read was, The reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. Read it twice within a week. The funniest thing was, I was having exams that week. Lol. :D
I think my first one must have been Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates - or, at least, it's the first one I remember reading. I must have been 7 or 8.
Harry Potter was my first real series...but I got hooked on the Goosebumps series too, around the end of second grade. I read every. Single. Book - and the school librarian even knew me by name at that point - she'd direct me straight to RL Stine! The VERY first book I remember reading was "Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type". :)
The first novel I read was Hurry Home Candy it was about an abandoned puppy dog and it is one of only a few things I did with my mum together. She read a page or two then I would. I was very small maybe 7 ? Not sure but we read it in the first house I lived in. I always felt it was as much about cruelty of humans as well as being a dogs story. I remember hoping I'd find the happiness that candy found sadly it remains elusive
