Okay I know we're reading that other book and should be focused on THAT but because Jamie/Beth are the best/worst they got so many of us reading The Fever series and despite the fact that we're written about it, discussed it over and over and over again, I still feel like we're not done.

So... I'll start-- I still can't stop thinking about Barrons. What is WRONG with me?

Barrons kind of sticks with you. You will read other books, find other hotties mesmerizing, fall in love with other book boyfriends. And then one day, about 18 months from now, you will start salivating and you will have to re-read the entire series (and Book 4 Chapter 4) all over again.

message 3: by Shalan (new)

Shalan | 8 comments I'm not sure you'll ever totally stop thinking about Barrons. Especially since society is puking up Barrons everywhere you turn like it did with that other certain book boyfriend. Not that that's the only reasaon he's unforgettable, but I'm sure it helps.

It's been well over 2 years since my first time with JZB and he still takes my breath away!

Linnea March (meganlinnea) | 17 comments The thing I loved about Barrons was that he remained so primal (Why does that sound so wrong, yet so right?) up until the end. I don't feel like he was dampened down in the least.

Elise (eliserrr) | 25 comments Mod
As I'm reading Written in Red, some of the Simon primal parts have me thinking "wolf, please, you think you're no JZB." But no spoilers because I'm like halfway through!

Elise (eliserrr) | 25 comments Mod
Ugh typo. You know what I meant.

GOD YES! He retains ALL of his Grrrrr for the whole series. Even "when you know who I am, let me be your man" is phrased in such a way that HE IS MAN. And he never capitulates to anyone's romanticism of him. It's a very unique way to draw a hero.

Becca West | 10 comments I finally finished all 5 books! I haven't been in on any discussions so I need it all now. Barrons!!!! Bekah Imma need that other book about Barrons that is a thing. ;-) Book 5... was all rushy rush McRush compared to the other books.... and then it all just ended. V'lane is in ice! Nothing between Dani and Mac! Barrons and his problems are sorta gone... except, oh yeah, Mac has all of the St'upid Book in her mind forevh. That sorta seems like a big deal? I can't go on... I need... BARRONS.

Rebekah Decker (bekahbuttons) | 101 comments Mod
Let me copy Becca's email to me from this last night b/c it's so AWWW and we've all been there:

"I finished it late last night and I have been walking around all day with mixed emotions; 1) BARRONS!!!!! *smiles* Why did this book have to end????!! 2) Thank goodness this book ended so I can sleep

but seriously... I loved this book in a very embarrassing way. BARRONS!!! I want to behold him to see if I crumple in the knees..... *whimpers..* Thanks BIG time for introducing me to the series. I checked email to tell you this and saw your post on Good reads so I posted there too. I feel the need to talk about this book. I really can't believe it ended just like that... no answers for 4 books and then book 5 is an info dump. I did not see it coming! Also, I want Barrons. ;-)"

LOVE IT

And yes--- Barron is SO primal YET... human... much more so than simon and the DOGS in Written in REd which is maybe why I didn't like it as much? Maybe if I didn't know BARRONS I would have liked that book more? I feel like we will DEF. talk about this in our book chat NEXT WEEK!

One of my favorite aspects of JZB too. Most characters turn from 'bad boy' to 'you are my life now' and the fact that Barrons remaind a 'this is me, take me as I am' kinda guy is what sealed his place at the top of my favorite book boyfriends

Becca West | 10 comments I can't wait to hear the IRL chat about this book at the hang out! :-D
While I loved Barrons for all the reasons you guys have mentioned I am still not %100 sure how I feel about Mac. I felt her Southern side was put out there way too much. Maybe I was just annoyed by way too many references to Pecan pies and the scent of magnolias. More Barrons less "In the South.....".

Rebekah Decker (bekahbuttons) | 101 comments Mod
and can we please be GRATEFUL that basically by the end she FINALLY stopped saying "petunia?"

Her southerness didn't bother me as much as her "my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. LITERALLY. ALL the boys" thing. Maybe it's bc I'm Southern myself and could tell you all the right ways to make sweet tea, and spend 75% of the summer months poolside, but that's not annoying. Being completely obsessed with her own SURETY of being the beautiful girl on the street is.

I just realized some of you are Fever newbies, and probably never read the Barrons POV scene. Oh boy. https://www.karenmoning.com/store/ind...

Jenny | 46 comments And how much crap did Mac pack when she went to Ireland? She had something for every occasion. "I know I'm trying to avenge my sister's death, so I totally need to pack my gold sandals, endless supply of pink camis and skirts, and every flipping shade of OPI nail color." Huh?

Barrons. Purrrrrrr. I have to say that his manner of keeping Mac in the dark was driving me nuts. There's a man of mystery, then there's the abusive mind game douchebag. I was glad that Mac learned that Barrons couldn't answer her questions about him without putting them in danger.

On the other hand, claiming that he can't answer questions because that puts the girl in danger is the standard douche bag move. "Sorry, can't answer why I have a pair of red panties in my jeans pocket without putting you in mortal danger, dear!" :)

Book 3 picks up and 4 & 5 is where it's at.

Book 2 is one of my favorites.

Okay. I'm partial to 4 and 5 as well. I just REALLY like The Burren scene.

i think i might be ready for a re-read....

Jenny | 46 comments I found myself skimming a lot. The use of so many Gaelic terms was distracting, as well as many similar names (V'Lane, Jayne, (Mac)Lane) and abbreviations. All of the books had a glossary except for the last one, when I needed it most!

Warning to those starting the series -- carve out about 10-14 days of doing nothing. I finished Shadowfever a week ago, and I did something I promised I would NEVER do: I was reading at my daughter's softball game. I set it down (reluctantly) when Heidi was up to bat, but even when she was in the field, I was reading. We live in a town where baseball/softball is HUGE and no one dares do anything except focus on the game. She's 8, she'll get over it. Meanwhile, I can't get over this series!

True. I tend to be more forgiving of jerky fictional characters than I do of real people. See also: Cullen, Edward.

"Oh Boy." I take it it's worth $1.99. Of course, anything with JZB has to be.

message 27: by Dany (new)

Dany (danyspike) For me, the Fever series was a leap of faith. By the end of the series I kind of liked her, but the only reason I kept reading through books 1 to 3 was because a friend of mine promised me she wasn't a stupid whiny baby through all five books.
But BARRONS!!! OH BARRONS!! <3 <3 ...Is it hot in here or is it just me?

i mean... yes b/c it's just 1.99 but it's WAY too short and leaves you wanting more. as barrons does...

Loved Barrons' POV scene. But, the audio. NO. NO. Had to turn it off. So not what Barrons sounded like in my mind when I was reading the books.[ (Because, in the books, he WAS speaking to me. (That's totally normal, right?)]

yes a few of the TN girls have.. maybe Elise most recently?? Apparently... well, you know Dani's age... it's weird... like not YA but she is a teenager and there's sex... anyway I heard mixed things

message 35: by Dany (new)

Dany (danyspike) I didn't like it much, but maybe the next ones will be better. If the author could transform an annoying Mac in to a likeable one, I'm sure she'll do wonders with Dani O'Malley.

I haven't, but I know Jamie has. Karen just put up some great Q&A about Iced and the next books on her Facebook page which addresses some of the squickier elements to Iced. I will DEFINITELY read these, but maybe wait until at least Burned is out.

I am just grateful that all 5 books were available when I read it. Can you imagine reading the ending of Book 4 and then waiting months/years for 5 to be published?! Enjoy the ride of Book 5, my friend. I think it's the best one.

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments You people scare me! Now, I looked at Book 1 on amazon and found the heroine annoying already. Fear no 1: Is it really gonna be worth my time? (I read book 1 and 2 of Beautiful Creatures before donating the whole series to the library, bored out of my mind. Will this be equally disappointing?)The alternative is equally scary, though. Fear no 2: what if it IS so good that I'm sucked down for two weeks??! I can't make my mind up to start it or not...Help!

Jenny | 46 comments MC, you can't live with such uncertainty. Dive in. I've read the first BC, have the second but haven't cracked it open yet. With the Fever books, I had to make sure I had access to the next book before getting halfway through the previous one. Love our county's library app!

Mary Beth | 8 comments Just go all in and get the 5 book pack. It IS definitely worth your time. You WILL BE sucked down for 2 weeks - 1 week reading the books and then the second week thinking about Barrons and mourning that it's over. Be brave! You can do it!

MC Honestly I liked the first two books okay. It set up the story, but once I got to the end of the second book I just about died and I had to finish them all in about a day and half. The writing isn't the best but goodness, it sucks you in. Keep going you won't be disappointed.
