Isn't anyone going to comment on my brilliant casting decision in Jason Momoa??!!!!!

message 102: by Shalan (new)

Shalan | 8 comments @Christine, I've been saying Jason Momoa for a couple of years with little response. I think few agree with us ;-)

message 103: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyface) | 24 comments I agree with y'all! Jason Momoa would be a perfect Barrons!

I'm starting book 5 and I'm not sure I get Barrons after all; is being domineering in bed all it takes to be swoony? I would like to see more of a vulnerable side to him: having terrible memories of raping and killing isn't making me warm to him much at all. The only thing I really liked was him laughing and dancing with Mac when she was out of it: that's the closest to likable I've seen him so far. Hanging in there....

@Tracy @Christine and @Shalan ... I don't have a problem with Jason Momoa as Barrons; I think if it's a fitting cast. He's just not particularly how I *saw* Barrons when I was reading.

I think there is swoon there if you look for it. Like (view spoiler)

Kathryn | 62 comments I just finished book 3 but can I go back and complain that Mac bought Barrons an effing birthday cake?? and it was PINK!?! And now Dani is narrating in book 4? Yet I am still reading...

message 108: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyface) | 24 comments @Beth I agree with you on him not being who I pictured at first, but I read the series well before I'd even heard of Jason Momoa... but I think he'd make a good Barrons, if there ever is an adaptation of the series. I can't think of anyone else to play JZB off the top of my head...

Hm, I guess I didn't get to that particular comment of his yet- the most promising so far! So far he's done no more than sacrifice things he could easily get back (IYD) to preserve the life of someone he needs to USE. Not much romance in that? It's not just that he's not expressing it verbally, his actions are rough-hewn in the extreme and his motivation could easily be construed as mercenary rather than romantic. *gets off frustrated soap-box* But thanks for patiently trying to help me get his good side! :)

Kathryn | 62 comments So I'm only 1/3 of the way thru #5 and I'm trying not to read comments above in case of spoilers so I'm sorry if this has been said but I want to bring up Chapter 8! It's not even a PAGE and it's from [spoiler!] Barrons POV and reveals to us that he's actually alive! (Side note - thank goodness the series is out and I didn't have to wait to know that it WAS in fact Barrons she killed at the end of #4.) I kind of feel cheated out of the surprise Mac gets after he rescues her from the book/Hunter and he turns back from Beast form. I still don't know what Barrons is besides immortal and some beasty hybrid so I don't understand the point of chapter 8 since it's not like we got any insight to him. Do we get his POV later too? I guess it tells us he's mad jealous or whatever when he sees Mac kissing Darroc so we know why he's so angry later but duh! Didn't need that spelled out for me!

Does anyone else have issues with this POV change? I wasn't too happy to be switched to Dani randomly in #4 especially b/c the way it's written as a 13-y.o. really annoys me. I'm more okay with the random Dani's now but this Barrons chapter really frustrated me. What do you guys think? Three books in Mac's POV and we suddenly need other POVs in 4 and 5? This helped the story? This was annoying?

I found the brief switch more inexplicable than annoying. If anything, I would have preferred MORE Barrons POV if we're gonna have it at all! And it was too short to convince me of his romantic intentions towards Mac: he's just a possessive sort of animal so he'd probably react as pissy if someone scratched one of his cars. Still 1/3 through the book, though, we'll see what happens...

message 113: by Casey (new)

Casey | 3 comments Part of the reason I have not read Iced is because it's in Dani's POV. I didn't care for her voice. I understand changing POVs gives the reader another side of things, and sometimes it's a fantastic tool, but I'm not sure we needed it here. I do wonder if the author knew she was going to be writing an entire book in Dani's POV, so she wanted to either test it out, or introduce the readers to her "voice". As far as Barrons POV...I'll take anything Barrons I can get! ha!

Kathryn | 62 comments J. Z. B. ...... siiiiiiiiiigh. I finished book 5 last night. And all I can think about is JZB. And the basement. (!!!!)

But really. V'lane? Dreamy-eyed guy?? What? I kind of feel like all that last stuff from leaving the basement to V'lane on ice just happened so fast I can't process it. One thing that oddly stood out - I was getting super creeped out by Mac referring to her father as daddy so much. Like, she and Barrons were eye-f*cking and then her "daddy" interrupts to tell them V'lane took the queen. Just one of those things about Mac that does not compute for me. Flouncing frothy pink skirts and killing Unseelie with Dani. The Basement and referring to her father as daddy. Maybe that's why I didn't ever really like Mac - too many things about her conflicting. I get the feeling that KMM thinks Mac's flawed and human but actually worships her. (KMM's jacket picture progression as the series went on was also a little creepy to me.) But who cares about Mac when there's Barrons??? Although I will say, Barrons would not be barbeque-ing. That was just plain wrong.

message 115: by Dany (new)

Dany (danyspike) That!!! Barrons barbecuing was so off character!

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep- Barrens BBQ is a TOTAL author brain snap.

Lynette | 20 comments I agree. Barbecuing someONE, maybe

message 118: by MC (new)

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments Okay, as long as Barrons is doing everything with DISTASTE it's still in character, barbecueing or no....
I just finished the series, and I must say that even if book nr 5 was better I remain unimpressed with Barrons.
He may look hot but he's still got the personality of a brick wall, and it takes more than that to make me fall. Oh well, like he said, the main thing is how you go on....picking up the next book now!

Ok, you must not be from the South. I am 33, and I still call my dad, "Daddy." I know that squicks some people out, but I could be in the middle of a knock down drag out fight with my husband, and if my dad calls I'm doing to answer the phone, "Hey, Daddy." And he still calls me "Baby Girl." That's just how we roll. So it didn't seem out of character to me at all.

Same here. My dad will always be "Daddy" to me, no matter how old I get (and I'm almost 32). Must be a Southern thing.

Personally, I never got people who adrdessed their daddies as "Father", which has a way more formal ring to it. And calling my Dad by his first name would have been really weird. What's wrong with "Dad" or "Daddy"? I don't wince when my grown sons call me "Mom" or "Mommy" to be sure...that's what I am to them.

Sorry to offend everyone! I have no problem with people calling their fathers Dad or Daddy. My brain couldn't keep up with the switching between eye-convos, real life, sifted life, etc. at the end. But I do call my father Dad. My 5 years living in Texas didn't make enough of an impression, I guess.

No worries. Seriously, not offended at all. To each their own. I was just clarifying why it probably wasn't an out of character kind of thing for Mac. Yes, she's Mac 2.0 and kind of badass, but she's still a Daddy's Girl. :)

have you ladies read the highlander series or did you jump straight into fever? would you recommend reading highlander before fever or are they skippable?

Hey again, Molly. I've read the first Highlander book, and I actually think it helps to have read Fever first. You know more about the Fae world, which shows up in the Highlander books but isn't directly explored or explained. You DEFINITELY don't need to read the Highlander books to enjoy Fever, or vice versa.

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) OK awesome! thanks ladies, I think I'll probably jump straight into fever and then check out highlander later cause I don't feel like being on Overdrive's wait list for ten years to get highlander books and I don't wanna dish out the cash at the moment :P

Molly: Wise choice, I got impatient and bought the whole Fever series on Amazon, but now I feel that it was money wasted. If I could, I'd send it to your Kindle...

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) mc, I don't have a kindle but I use the kindle app on my tablet!
speaking of, I have all the infernal devices and mortal instruments books for kindle

message 135: by MC (new)

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments Molly - Until a couple of weeks ago I had Kindle on my PC, but with Fangirl(which was only available on Kindle) I felt I wanted it with me for lunchtime reads, so I got a REAL Kindle. I got the Infernal Devices in paperback, though, because good books I want to reach out and grasp, physically, when I need them. ;)

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) So, fun fact about me, I'm always late to the party.
I just finished the first Fever book last night and I think I'm hooked lol

Be as late as you want. Considering it's Fever we're talking about ... and it's 6 days later: are you finished yet?

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) If I had them at my disposal, I guarantee I would be! But I am attempting to be frugal by (im)patiently waiting to get them from Overdrive. I've been "first" on the hold list for over a week. I'll probably crack and buy it for my Kindle app if I don't get it soon lol

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) I'm on Faefever and am I the only one that felt personally insulted by Barrons birthday cake outburst? Lmao
I know I shouldn't be surprised at ALL, it's totally in character, but I had to put the book down so I didn't smack it to vent my frustration lol

Fernanda Bertino | 9 comments I don't know if I need to do this but SPOILER ALERT

I can't get the image of Mac and Barrons dancing and singing naked to Tubthumping(sp?) out of my head!! The mehishness(made up word) of the first book is worth it for that scene alone!!

LolliMolly ⫷fiction addiction⫸ (lollimolly) That scene and the MacHalo scene are my absolute favorites.
