Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 22 – 24

40. Oh, Father Hubbard has reappeared. I worry for both little Jack and Annie, as well as Diana. You?
Yes, I think he is very dangerous. They need to get away from him or make him disappear somehow.

41. What did you think of Mary’s “Diana’s Tree”? The dragon – or rather firedrake? - and what of the bird, that reminded Diana of the illustrations of the wedding of Ashmole 782?
I think this search of theirs may not lead to them finding the book, but to the knowledge of what is in the book. Even when she saw the book, she didn't really understand it. Now she is gaining the knowledge of what is in the book.

42. Oh, no! Diana lost the babe. What was the meaning of her dream? Do you think someone had a hand in this? Was it Father Hubbard’s appearance? Or was Matthew right and the baby had a genetic anomaly?
I'm not sure what the dream means. I was thinking that maybe it somehow knew they wouldn't get back to their own time period before it would be born. It really shouldn't be possible to have a child with a birthday hundreds of years before your own. That might disrupt the time continuum too much, much more than just depositing yourself in a different time period.

43. Matthew was out with Kit? Why does Matthew tolerate him after what he did? Opiates in the blood! Is Matthew addicted?
I don't think Matthew can get addicted. He gets whatever his host blood has, but it works its way out of his system quickly since he resistant to sickness and has great healing powers.

44. What do you think of the requests for magic left on the stairs? Should Diana assist her neighbors?
I think she should be allowed to choose whether she wants to or not. I don't think she has the ability to help many of them yet anyway.

45. A firedrake and a rowan tree? Both unions of opposites? Like Diana and Matthew? And Diana can transfer between worlds? Comments on all the happenings at the Rede gathering and Diana’s forespell? I thought of a lot of thing that Diana’s familiar would be, but not a firedrake! You?
I guess I am too dependent on current literature. I was expecting some sort of cat or raven, or owl or something like that, even with knowing what Goody Alsop's familiar is. I like that a lot of combinations of opposites are being referenced in this book. It is definitely an 'opposites attract' book and I think this happens more often than people realize. I also think it is interesting that the Rede doesn't seem to meet all as one group but still has authority over all the witches.

46. The Huntress – wants Diana. And she’s wants her to make use of her life. How? What is the significance of whether she has her bow and arrows or not?
I think she gets the bow and arrows when danger is about, but there is still a chance to get away without using them. I think the amount she gets is how the goddess interprets the importance of the situation.

47. I laughed over that expensive mouse trap, did you?Yes, that was funny.

48. But Gerbert! Eep! Do you think they will go to Prague to investigate Emperor Rudolf’s cabinet of curiosities?
I think they will have to, just to see if he has the book they are looking for. I have also been thinking, it is a coincidence that every time they come close to figuring out where it might be, it disappears again? Maybe there is magic on it that will only let it be found if Diana is by herself?

49. Will this book, “Verum Secretum Secretorum,” be of any use at all?
Maybe

50. And what of Diana having Mary put her blood in the solution of aqua fortis, silver and mercury? Oh, I knew they were going to need Matthew’s blood, too. Right? So, what now?
Helps explain why she can conceive with Matthew. It is just like a recipe, all ingredients are needed to make the recipe complete.

@Leslie

52. I agree - she is great

53. True. I wonder if it is because they do not approve of her being married to a warmblood?

54. Good point, I hadn't even thought about their fate. They would have to entrust them to someone. Perhaps Mary Sidney?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Karen

#40 – Yes, I like that, too.

#43 – Completely agree with you! Very annoying.

#44 – Yes, several things worry me about it. Her neighbors could turn on her; she doesn’t have control of her magic (as Leslie says – it is a delicate situation); she could bring even more of the wrong kind of attention; Father Hubbard may feel he then has a right to do something.

#46 – It slipped my mind, too.

#50 – Ah! Could be.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Leslie

#40 – Me, too. Big Trouble.

#42 – I’m sorry for your loss, Leslie. (((Cyber Hugs)))

#43 – I think you hit the nail on the head!

#45 – Yes, the firedrake was a very pleasant surprise.

#50 – Good point about their “meant to be.”

#51 – Yes, I thought the scene with the Queen was very scary, too!

#52 – Ditto on Mary Sidney.

#54 – Very good point; I’ve been wondering about that, too.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Logan

#31 – Me, neither. Was a pain.

#33 – Oh! I haven’t caught up with the latest year of Downton Abbey.

#36 – Oh! Interesting.

#37 – LOL! ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Turtlecollector

#40 – Yes. Diana need a “make the scary dude disappear” spell.

#41 – Good point; she needs to understand what she’s reading.

#42 – Oh. Wow. Love that reasoning.

#45 – I’m will you with regards to the current lit; this was very imaginative.

#46 – Hmmm…

#48 – Oh! There’s a thought.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Questions 26 August
Chapters 25-27

51. We meet William Cecil and Queen Elizabeth! I think I found this meeting more nerve wracking than the one with Philippe or even Father Hubbard. What did you think?
The queen is a very imperious character but she needs to be. She doesn't trust anyone, but I think in her position it would be hard to determine who is trustworthy. She definitely expects everyone to follow her orders with no questions. I was afraid she would manage to separate Diana and Matthew.

52.Edward Kelly is a daemon working on the Philosopher’s Stone and Matthew has been entrusted with getting him from Prague. Do you think they had any choice but to obey the Queen? How did you feel about Mary Sidney’s intervention to ensure Diana could go with him?
I don't think they had much of a choice. Diana is not ready to get them back to the present time, and running away would only set back her training. I was glad about Mary Sidney's intervention because it gave them a way out of being separated without Matthew having to exert his influence or directly disobey the queen. I think he could have avoided punishment from the queen in the long run, but it would have jeopardized everything they were trying to accomplish by keeping Diana under the radar as much as possible and not change history too much.

53. Back into current day and Gallowglass is in Warnambool and now has memories of Elizabethan Diana. it seems Verin deClaremont’s husband Ernst is a warmblood. What do you think are the instructions (warning?) that Philippe gave them?
I think he told them that they will need to get back home in order to help protect the family. When all the historical papers come to light there are going to be a lot of questions about their family. I also think Diana and Matthew will end up returning to Sept-Tours when they return to the present, so the danger may be focused there.

54. I think my favourite part of the start of Part IV in Prague was the scene at night with Jack and Matthew. It seems that Matthew’s character is really developing in this book. Do you agree?
I agree. He is becoming much more personable in spite of his own efforts to remain uninvolved. We are getting to see more sides of him than strictly a vampire personality. I think they will make great parents as well.

55. It seems that the Prague Emperor and his staff may make it quite difficult for Matthew and Diana to see the manuscript or Kelly. What would happen if they are not successful doing this Queen’s errand?!
I think many more difficulties are coming and there will definitely be consequences if they don't complete the errand.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Turtlecollector

#51 – Yes! I was terribly worried about that, too.

#52 – Yes, Clever Mary! Thanks goodness.

#53 – Oh, dear! I didn’t even think about where they would return.

#55 – Eep!

40. I loved how protective Diana got over Jack. I just adore him and Hubbard is capital-C Creepy.

41. The tree made me think we'll get a philosopher's stone after all!

42. I think Matthew may be right about the genetics. Maybe it's a timing thing, though.

43. Matthew is really grieving! He's finding solace in Kit? I was sad that he relied on drugs more than Diana.

44. I think she shouldn't ignore them. That seems rude and likely to draw ire from the witches.

45. I like the theme of opposites. It'll be interesting to see that play out.

46. Not sure I'd want to be indebting my life to a goddess. Will she have to sacrifice herself?

47. Yes! A silver mousetrap!

48. Gerbert is everywhere! I wonder if he makes an appearance later.

49. I'm getting confused with all the books again. Is that Ashmole? Or the book Mary had? Or the Russian one?

50. Did they find the solution? It seemed like they made gold leaves!

51. I agree! Royalty is extra scary because of their power so I also was very nervous. I think I would have fainted!

52. I wondered how Mary Sidney heard and intervened so quickly! I'm glad she did, but it seemed a convenient author tactic to keep Diana and Matthew together.

53. I am so curious what Philippe is up to! Is he making sure they don't mess up history? Are they tracking Ashmole?

54. I thought that was so sweet! It softened Matthew up quite a bit in my eyes.

55. If they don't find it, off with their heads! lol. Should I be concerned we haven't heard from Matthew and Diana in present time?!

I have been waiting for them to have the Philosopher's stone created too! And I agree about the books - it can be confusing to keep up sometimes on which one is which :)
I am guessing Phillipe knows something about when they return? Maybe back to Sept-tours? And he left instructions for the rest of the family to go there and protect them? I have a feeling this book will end on a cliffhanger!

Questions 27 August
Chapters 28-30

56. Rudolf has taken quite a shine to Diana. What did you think of the gifts? Will Diana be able to leave Prague easily?

57. The meeting with Kelley also introduced us to Rabbi Loew and Abraham who is the weaver that created the golem. There seem to be so many characters introduced in this book! Are you managing to keep track? Do you think Abraham and the Rabbi will play an important role in this book or the next?

58. The Vampire Herr Fuchs is Benjamin – Matthew’s son. Yet another member of the de Claremont family, although there doesn’t seem to be a good relationship there. ”The most terrifying monsters always look just like ordinary men”. Thoughts?

59. Diana is told the book will come to her if she asks for it. This aligns with Turtlecollector’s theory that maybe she can only find it if by herself? Will we finally get the manuscript before the end of this book?

60. Leslie posed an interesting question. What will happen to Annie and Jack when Matthew and Diana return to the future?

61. Matthew drinks Diana’s blood again, but from a different place as part of a kind of mating ritual. Did you like this scene?
(I must admit I am getting a bit sick of the romance and just want them to get to the manuscript already...lol)

Edit: I actually discovered last night at the end of the hardcover book is a list of characters for each section with a notation to show if they are an actual historical figure.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I was a bit ahead of everyone, so I haven't been answering the questions.....but I am loving seeing what everyone thinks !!

I'll do tonight's questions:
56. I'm not so sure it will be easy to get out of Prague. Afterall, isn't Rudolph holding the alchemist "hostage". I thought it was interesting that they were "faking" their marriage.

57. There are a lot of new characters. I think I will need to re-read when the last book is published. I'm mostly listening to audio and sometimes don't have as good of memory too. I do like how everything is well researched. I don't think that we've seen the last of them.

58. Benjamin definitely seems to be a bad seed. I'm guessing that we will not get the full back-story until the 3rd book. Now that we know who he is, I definitely want to re-read that section.

59. I hope that we make more progress toward the manuscript before the end. Maybe they won't have it in hand, at least have seen it.

60. Yes, I have been wondering the same thing. I definitely thing the most touching moments are Matthew with Jack.

61. I don't mind a little romance, but this just made me go "ewww"

message 165: by Leslie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Leslie | 149 comments 56. I don't like that he keeps sending her gifts. It's creepy. I don't think they will get out of Prague easily. Rudolf will make it hard for them.

57. I'm having such a hard time keeping track of everyone! They might play a big role in this book but I can't see them playing a big role in the next. That will just depend on when Matthew and Diana go home.

58. I'm worried that Benjamin will cause some trouble for them. He definitely seems like the real black sheep of the family.

59. I think we will see it before the book ends. I can't wait for them to get their hands on it. I wonder if it will answer any questions though. I have a feeling it will only raise more problems.

60. I've been thinking that maybe Gallowglass, Pierre, or one of the other members of the household will take them. Or at least Jack. I'm worried Annie will have to go back to Hubbard.

61. I did like this scene. It didn't bother me much. I'm used to it though because I read a lot of vampire books and this scene was pretty mild.

56. Yes, me too. I like that we get to see how they need to have different 'faces' to different people - not everyone can know their true selves. Must be exhausting!

57. I actually discovered last night at the end of the hardcover book is a list of characters for each section with a notation to show if they are an actual historical figure. I wish that was at the start of the book!!

58. Agreed

60. Yes, I'd like Jack to stay with them, but that is just changing the future *too* much

56. It is creepy. Reminded me of when I was watching The Tudors and Henry could demand any woman he wanted into his bedroom (not sure if that is historically accurate, but close). I keep expecting something similar to happen here!

57. Same. I have really enjoyed the book, but the number of new characters is mind-blowing. She really should have put the list of them at the start of the book, not the end

60. :(

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Answers to Karen's Questions for Chapters 28-30

56. I'm shocked that Matthew is being so lenient with Rudolf. He's reacted worse to far more tame advances in the past!

57. I'm struggling to keep everyone straight. I hope the next one has a cast of characters, but probably not likely. A family tree would help too. I hate when series with SO many characters don't provide this.

58. Did we know about Benjamin before? I didn't remember him, but I think we knew we hadn't met his entire family, right?

59. I hope we get the book, but then where does the story go? I'm very curious what is supposed to happen in book 3.

60. That's a great question! Will they try to take them back? Leave them with Pierre or Gallowglass?

61. I'm with Karen. The romance stuff is distracting more than interesting to me. Harkness could use some tighter editing in her middles. :)

56. So true. I think he is "growing up" a bit, but also hopefully conscience of the time period and his "old" self will have to live with whatever consequences once he disappears back into the future. Does leave me to wonder how the 16th century Matthew will feel about people telling him he was there and married to a witch. How does "old" Matthew account for that loss in time? I'm unsure how time travel works in Harkness' world and it is making my head hurt thinking about it...haha

57. Oh, yes I love family trees!

58. I don't remember im being referred to, but I think the family is huge

61. I agree. I was loving this book until they went to Prague as although there is some historically interesting bits I feel like it was just more of the same and I am impatient to start getting somewhere :)

The "Darnley Portrait" of Elizabeth I of England. It was named after a previous owner. Probably painted from life, this portrait is the source of the face pattern called "The Mask of Youth" which would be used for authorized portraits of Elizabeth for decades to come. Recent research has shown the colours have faded. The oranges and browns would have been crimson red in Elizabeth's time.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 31 – 35

62. Is Pistorius going to cause trouble? Or has Gallowglass taken care of him? Or did I miss that?

63. **gasp** Diana just came right out and asked to see the book! Brave of her. But, why was the book quite when Diana touched it in the King Rudolf’s presence? Was that a time-travel thing? Where it recognized her in the future, but not in the past?

64. Eep! Ashmole 782 is made of the skins of many daemons, vampires, and witches. I’m with Gallowglass; the Book of Life stinks of death. And it talks back! Comments.

65. Jack be nimble! The little thief had the ring of keys King Rudolf’s menagerie! Too convenient, or just too funny? What of what Matthew said to him about being bad?

66. They’ve got the book! Alas, it is missing three pages? And they’ll go back to the future to try and find them. Does this make sense to you?

67. Diana’s pregnant again?! Did you like Matthew’s statement, at the end of chapter 32, about making a difference? Will this pregnancy be viable, especially now that they’ve found the book?

68. Oh, dear! Knox is on the track of one of the missing pages. Any bets as to who will find it first: him or Matthew and Diana? Or possibly Gerbert? A raiding party on the de Clermont stronghold doesn’t sound good. Comments.

69. Is it wise that Diana lied to the Queen about having the book?

70. Man-oh-man! How could Diana go off with Kit?
**Lisa Kay’s mind boggles** Especially after pushing Kit’s buttons over his poetry?

71. It is about time Diana’s firedrake made a fortuitous appearance. Of course, now everyone knows of the babe. You thoughts?

72. What of the prophecy that Gerbert shared with Ysabeau?

73. And Louisa? What will happen to her after that crazy stunt? Or do you care?

62. This is my main problem with this book. Which one was Pistorius? Maybe I read this section too fast! lol

63. I wondered about its quietness too. Maybe since it is whole it isn't so anxious.

64. So, so creepy! I don't think I could touch it. I also didn't realize vellum was made of animal skin, so shows how much I know.

65. I'm glad his thieving skills have proved to be useful! What's the use of having a skilled pickpocket if you can't have him get you out of a jam? :)

66. I think trying to trace the missing pages in the future is a mistake, but I also fear that the longer they stay in the past the more dangerous it will become. They're already attracting so much attention! I wonder where 16th Century Matthew is during all this time...

67. I really hope this pregnancy goes to term. I think it would be cruel to have to read through another miscarriage.

68. I hope Gallowglass can beat Knox to the page, but if Knox is the only one with this information it doesn't seem likely. Maybe the third book is going to deal with tracking down these pages and the fight that may erupt over them.

69. It seems to have turned out okay, but that sure was risky!

70. That was so dumb, and so out of character. She leaves because she's tired and then just up and decides to follow Kit even though he's acting all shifty. *facepalm* I thought that was sloppy.

71. I was a little surprised that Matthew insisted, in front of everyone, that it was his baby. They know how dangerous that knowledge is, and then later they let them go free - basically setting that knowledge loose into the creature world. Is this where the legend of its possibility began?

72. That has me very curious. Diana seems to fit the prophecy, so will she really bring down the shadow of night? Or the de Clermonts? And will that be a bad thing?

73. I care only in the sense that she seems like she'll hold a grudge and come after them in the future.

message 185: by Leslie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Leslie | 149 comments 62. I think that Gallowglass stopped him but he might cause trouble. Idk though. Maybe he'll just stay in Prague.

63. I think that it's because in the future the book wasn't whole and recognized that Diana might be the one to heal it. In the future there are pages missing.

64. EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW! It's so morbid and disgusting and just down right evil. I don't think that I would want anything to do with this book.

65. I thought it was too funny. Of the course the little pick pocket would take the keys! LOL! I think what Matthew said to him can be true. Sometimes doing something bad has a good result. Just not most of the time.

66. Yes and no. Yes because it would be too dangerous for them to look in the past. No because the pages might be destroyed by then. Can they take the book back with them to the present? Wouldn't that stop the book from being in University Library where Diana found it?

67. I hope so! These two seem to want this baby so much. I think what Matthew said was really sweet. I love how he seems to be re-finding his humanity.

68. I have no idea. For all we know Marcus or someone random like Benjamin will find the pages. Lol. It doesn't sound good and I really worry about our group at Sept Tours, especially since they have that demon couples baby there.

69. I think she had no other choice. If she hadn't lied Elizabeth would have insisted they give the book to her.

70. UGH! I so wanted to scream at her. I think she thought that no matter how much animosity Kit has towards her that he wouldn't do anything that would really hurt Matthew. Well... that was a stupid risk to take.

71. It was only a matter of time that everyone would know of the baby. I think it's good and bad. It's dangerous for too many people to know but these are the people and creatures who are closest to Matthew and Diana and I think they should know, if for no other reason, then they can help protect the secret.

72. I don't know what to think of that. It sure does sound like it could be Diana but prophecy are tricky. If it is about Diana the destruction of the DeCleremonts could mean that it will be the destruction of how they are not necessarily that the family will face some kind of doom. It could be a change for the better.

73. I really don't care. Matthew will never let her get away with this though. He can't kill her because that will change the future but I'm sure she'll wish she had when he's done with her.

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Questions 27 August
Chapters 28-30

56. Rudolf has taken quite a shine to Diana. What did you think of the gifts? Will Diana be able to leave Prague easily?
The gifts are interesting just for themselves, but I think he could cause some problems when they try to leave Prague.

57. The meeting with Kelley also introduced us to Rabbi Loew and Abraham who is the weaver that created the golem. There seem to be so many characters introduced in this book! Are you managing to keep track? Do you think Abraham and the Rabbi will play an important role in this book or the next?
I sometimes have difficulty keeping track of all the characters, but I don't consult the list at the back of the book. It is easier for me just to keep reading a little confused than flip back and forth all the time. I'm not sure if Abraham and the Rabbi will show up again or not.

58. The Vampire Herr Fuchs is Benjamin – Matthew’s son. Yet another member of the de Claremont family, although there doesn’t seem to be a good relationship there. ”The most terrifying monsters always look just like ordinary men”. Thoughts?
I didn't get an especially creepy vibe from him. Just the normal bad vampire one, so this comment makes me very interested to see what may happen with him later in the book.

59. Diana is told the book will come to her if she asks for it. This aligns with Turtlecollector’s theory that maybe she can only find it if by herself? Will we finally get the manuscript before the end of this book?
I think we will finally get the manuscript at the end of this book and then the next book will be them trying to get home with it.

60. Leslie posed an interesting question. What will happen to Annie and Jack when Matthew and Diana return to the future?
I think they may stay with Gallowglass? He seems to be a little fond of them when he threatens to take them back to England to avoid the 'parents' fighting and leave Matthew and Diana to their own devices.

61. Matthew drinks Diana’s blood again, but from a different place as part of a kind of mating ritual. Did you like this scene?
It was a bit odd to me, but I think it might be setting her up to get pregnant again. He said he was giving her life. For two people who normally could not have children together, these two are going to seem to have no trouble at least getting pregnant.

Matthew tells Diana, as they are waiting to see the King’s book (Ashmole 782), that he will be back in 10 years to hear Rudolf’s confession. Matthew confirms to Gallowglass, when he asks if Pistorius is being groomed to be a member of the Congregation. I just didn’t know if we have to worry about him in the future.

#63 – Oh. Good point. It hasn’t been ripped apart, yet.

#64 – I knew that on some level, but – eep! – not human. Of course, I’m vegan now, so even the animal skin bothers me.

#65 – LMBO! Right.

#66 – Yeah, the boy guy is going to have a serious case of “black-out” amnesia.

#67 – Yes. Very.

#68 – Yes, I’m thinking the latter.

#70 – I agree. DH could have set this up better.

#71 – Ah! That could be!

#72 – Stumped me, too.

You’re welcome for the pics! I had fun finding them.
#62 – Well, I realized, when I was typing my reply to Logan, that he couldn’t have been killed, because he is a real life character and sees the King in 10 years. Still, I wonder if Gallowglass intimidated him.

#63 – Oh! You all are making me see the sense of this.

#66 – I know! I don’t think they should take the book back. But, who to give it to?

#67 – Yes, he is really growing, as several of you have pointed out.

#68 – Ditto!

#70 – I’m sure that’s what she thought, but… duh! Especially as the tiltyard was deserted.

#72 – You said it: prophecies are tricky.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments @ Turtlecollector

#58 – Yeah, maybe in Book #3. Some of these characters have to appear there.

#60 – Yes, Gallowglass and Henry are two of my favorite characters.

#61 – Whoa. I didn’t think of that connection. **smacks forehead**

Answers to LK questions for chapters 31-35

62. I missedit to - although I just read through other's comments and your responses to get me up to date...lol

63. I like that she asked for it. I also wondered if it was "quiet" because it was whole

64. Gross. I wonder why someone would make such a thing?

65. Love Jack. As they say, you can take the boy out of the criminal world....

66. To be honest something so powerful shouldn't be in the hands of just 2 people. We are assuming they use the information for"good", but I can understand why the rest of their kind wold be pretty unhappy they keep it to themselves

67. She must be the most fertile 33 year old I have ever heard of! The pregnancy better go to term as that is pretty awful if we read through another miscarriage

68. As per my comment in 66, this doesn't surprise me. If I was Knox, or any member of the congregation, I would want the book too!

69. Yes. If they hadn't gone back to the past, Liz would never have had it anyway

70. That part did make me shake my head

71. I agree with Logan on this one. weird.

72. I also agree with Logan. Maybe it is time to bring it down and start a new era

73. I don't really care, but I have a feeling she will re-appear

@Turtlecollector

58. Yes, I wonder if this is just setting it up for book 3

60. I hope so!

61. I like your theory!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 31 – 35

62. Is Pistorius going to cause trouble? Or has Gallowglass taken care of him? Or did I miss that?
I don't think he can cause much more trouble now.

63. **gasp** Diana just came right out and asked to see the book! Brave of her. But, why was the book quite when Diana touched it in the King Rudolf’s presence? Was that a time-travel thing? Where it recognized her in the future, but not in the past?
I think it has to be some time travel thing. She is the one who precipitated it losing some pages. It lost the pages when Matthew went to steal it from Kelley.

64. Eep! Ashmole 782 is made of the skins of many daemons, vampires, and witches. I’m with Gallowglass; the Book of Life stinks of death. And it talks back! Comments.
I love books, but this is a very creepy book. I wish we had been told what it was saying and how Kelley was able to hear it.

65. Jack be nimble! The little thief had the ring of keys King Rudolf’s menagerie! Too convenient, or just too funny? What of what Matthew said to him about being bad?
I want to know what happened to making him turn out his pockets every day. Or had he been there on this same day? I think it was a funny way to get Matthew inside without too much bloodshed. What Matthew said to Jack is evidence of them bonding. I think Mathew is going to miss Jack more than he wants to admit when they return to the present.

66. They’ve got the book! Alas, it is missing three pages? And they’ll go back to the future to try and find them. Does this make sense to you?
It doesn't really make sense to me. If they have the book now, are they not bringing it with them to the future? Maybe they won't be returning to the same time they left when they return to the present.

67. Diana’s pregnant again?! Did you like Matthew’s statement, at the end of chapter 32, about making a difference? Will this pregnancy be viable, especially now that they’ve found the book?
It seems more possible to me that this pregnancy might be viable. It sounds like they are closer to reaching the present time before the baby is born. I don't think any baby will be born before they are returned to the present time.

68. Oh, dear! Knox is on the track of one of the missing pages. Any bets as to who will find it first: him or Matthew and Diana? Or possibly Gerbert? A raiding party on the de Clermont stronghold doesn’t sound good. Comments.
What about the page that was found in the house? Or am I remembering wrong that the house had been hiding a page(I know it was hiding something, but I can't remember what it was exactly)? Could that be the page given to the witch Abraham and handed down through the centuries? If so, Diana has already found that page. I still think each of the species is going to end up with a page. A raiding party on Sept-Tours is not going have a good result.

69. Is it wise that Diana lied to the Queen about having the book?
She didn't technically lie because it wasn't in her possession but with Gallowglass. If she had told the queen where it was, though, she would never have gotten out of the room.

70. Man-oh-man! How could Diana go off with Kit? **Lisa Kay’s mind boggles** Especially after pushing Kit’s buttons over his poetry?
That did seem unrealistic since she was so tired, but I could see her trying to get along with him since he had been Matthew's friend for so long.

71. It is about time Diana’s firedrake made a fortuitous appearance. Of course, now everyone knows of the babe. You thoughts?
Telling the truth may be the best way to protect it since no one seems to believe them anyway. Keeping it a secret might just make it more significant.

72. What of the prophecy that Gerbert shared with Ysabeau?
It will be interesting to see how much of the prophecy will come true.

73. And Louisa? What will happen to her after that crazy stunt? Or do you care?
I don't really care what will happen to her as long as she can't come back to hurt Diana. She won't get away with it and Matthew will end punishing her I think.

#66 – Excellent point.

#67 – **hee hee** I’d forgotten her age, to tell you the truth.

#73 – Eep!

Astronomical Compendium signed by Erasmus Habermel who was a clockmaker and maker of astronomical and geodetic instruments of the 16th Century. The device includes an adjustable string gnomon sundial, a compass, as well as an assortment of calendrical, astrological and arithmetical tables. It also has a miniatrurised set of gunner's gauge scales for determining the weight of cannonballs.
